The First Day in May

May Day

I know…for some of you, it’s not May Day anymore, but just pretend.  Technically, I’m just squeaking in under the wire here.  Did you all have a good weekend?  And watch THE wedding?  {Swooooon}  Start the weekend with a gorgeous, fabulous wedding and end it with the pretty flowers of May Day — what a way to uplift ye old gloomy end-of-winter spirits, huh?

In between those two happy events, we drove a few hours for our last counter top viewing.  I deemed it would be the last time we looked at stone — a decision would be made, one way or other.  My number one choice would be a gorgeous creamy limestone, but it’s an unknown, so I chickened out and went with the safer choice of granite.  Truth be told, as long as it’s not ugly green tile, I’ll be happy.  The stone place we visited was amazing — they had an unbelieveable selection of marbles, travertines, granites, you name it if it’s a rock.  There were even samples with fossils in them just to remind us what we’re dealing with here.  Here’s a picture of one such example — it was so pretty — I wish you could see it in person.  Needless to say, at ~$35k, is won’t be coming home with us!

So, back to nice, happy thoughts. Stacy Julian shared this video on civility on her blog today and I thought it worth repeating.

Have a great week and let the market countdown begin:  5 more sleeps for me!

XOXO,
Anna

P.S. Here’s a little tip: Don’t name a blog post Dirty Little Secrets. It was innocent enough, but I should have known LOL!

  1. Anna banana, happy may day!!!
i love love love that piece of stone with the fossil in it!
and ohmygoodness, it’s 35k???? def. out of my budget.
i’m the first commenter, so i’m going to hurry and finish up here, so i still win the first commenter prize!!!
    MUAH

  2. I set the alarm and was up at 2 am to see Prince William and his father leave Clarence House and then after the royal kisses I returned to bed where no one saw me again until the afternoon. Totally worth watching, nothing like a Royal wedding. Kitchen new and market news: two hot topics I’ll be anxiously waiting. Happy May Day! it is still May 1st here.

  3. Happy May Day! Wow that is one pricey piece of granite isnt it, although very cool with the fossil in it. Hope the weather is warming up where you are. I enjoyed the Royal Wedding too but missed the balcony kiss!

  4. Happy May! It was a glorious start to the month here in Scotland – blue blue skies and whilst it was only about 16 degrees (63) it felt warm – we went to the beach for our first paddle then back to friends for a BBQ!

Granite is a good look for a worksurface – I don’t have real stone but it does look like granite!

  5. The granite is fabulous – but a little bit expensive! I once wrote a post about old knitting patterns, with handsome men modelling golf sweaters. I used the word ‘hunk’ in the title – big mistake, as I kept showing up in searches for gay men – some of the sites had VERY explicit names (no, I didn’t look at them!!)
We have just about recovered from all the wedding excitement – we are definitely the best in the world for such occasions!!

  6. The flowers are beautiful – happy belated May Day to you too. Thanks for the clip, talk is cheap and it’s very easy to say anything (as politicians show us every day!) but it’s a person’s actions that show what they’re really like. It’s lovely that this lady had the opportunity to question her own actions and realise they didn’t quite measure up and quite inspiring.

  7. Thanks, I needed that – the video that is. I often think that the way we treat others is like good quality perfume. A little spritz of it can have an amazing affect on more than just us. Good will, kindness and respect is a shared experience that can have a domino affect on those that we never even come in contact with. Like the man said – it is free. I LOVED THAT PART. Carolina

  8. Happy May Day – 7 more sleeps more me – well 6 1/2 really considering it’s so late already…

  9. I love that video. :) Brilliant and brave. I did watch the wedding- all day! I just kept the “telly” on BBCAmerica and popped in every now and then to look at all of those hats- good and bad. Nude octopus, anyone? Tsk, tsk, Beatrice.
You soumd like me in making choices for the house. I always think I want to go edgy and cool and I wind up being the basic beige girl. Still, granite is a beautiful choice. Happy kitchen decorating!

  10. Happy May (a day late) Day! Bravo for making a countertop decision! Woohoo! Can’t wait to see it when it’s all done.

  11. I was not die hard enough to get up by 3:00 a.m. but we did set a proper tea and watch the rebroadcast, every minute of it, and some of it twice. We used British accents whilst saying verbs. That makes it a valid homeschool activity, right?

  12. I’d love to have heard those “British accents” though I have no idea what those might sound like… London? Newcastle? Belfast? Edinburgh?

I suppose it’s the same as when we use the term “American accent” – which one?

Anyway – happy May Day, dear Anna.

  13. Happy Day After May Day! :)

Yes, the wedding was lovely, and I enjoyed watching all the coverage. And thinking that hopefully they didn’t stop to think that there were about a billion people watching them. How overwhelming that would be!

Great video too! And the homeless man is right, it doesn’t cost a cent to be kind. :)

Have a great time at quilt market. :)

  14. Lovely video, I think one of my class needs to see it! Wish I could fold myself up and hide in your luggage!

  15. Congrats on the granite – I’m sure you’ll love it! And oh – no more heinous green tile – hooEFFINGray!

  16. Happy Belated May Day Anna – that piece of granite is so cool. Looking forward to seeing you in SLC – have a fun time with family before hand and see you during sweaty set up lol.
