Photo Scavenger Hunt: March

WooHoo!  It’s April!  And the end of the March Hangover.  I was running late all month, and that includes finishing my photos for the March Photo Scavenger Hunt, hosted every month by Kathy.  So, here are my shots:

Peeling paint: A window on our house.  I paint it every other year, then it peels.  Two years ago, we had real painters and Mr. Painter said that whoever painted this trim strip before him didn’t use primer.  I begged to differ since it was me.  And now?  It looks like Mr. Painter didn’t use primer.  Joke’s on him.  There’s just something weird about this piece of trim — it’s the only spot on the house that must be constantly painted.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A shadow: From my serger thread rack in my sewing room.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

Something as old as me: A quilt that MeMum made for me just before I was born.  I wish you could see her embroidery up close and personal — it’s gorgeous.  Her friend drew the scene — it’s Winken, Blinken and Nod.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

An extra close-up photo.  Isn’t it cute?

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A ring:  A little ring that BigDaddy bought me when we visited The Big Pit in Wales.  I wear it on my pinkie and I love it.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A rainbow:  Not happ’nin here in March.  So I made my own.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A lamb:  Dorothy, we’re not in Scotland!  I don’t know any real lambies around here, so you get my knitting tape measure.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A lion:  Well, I would have been perfectly happy to pay the entrance price to our local Children’s Zoo so that I could take a picture of the lions, but they’re closed for the winter.  So, since TheEmptyNestChild thinks he’s a lion, I made him wear a homemade mane.  Poor Guy.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A fancy gate:  Not fancy as in ornate, but fancy as in big.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A collection:  This is ThimbleannaLand, after all.  This is MeMum’s collection and she was none too happy that I didn’t give her time to polish her thimbles.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

Something sentimental: My grandma’s apron hanging in my pantry.  She died when I was 17 and I still miss her.  I love to wear her apron when I need good cooking karma.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

An empty chair: How ’bout a bunch of empty chairs waiting for spring so they can go outside (to be ravaged by nest building squirrels)?

Scavenger Hunt Photo

Something green: Our chives are bravely peeking out into the chilly spring air.

You can view all of the other entries for the Photo Scavenger Hunt in the flickr group. I love to see all the different interpretations of the list from all over the world.

Have a great week!
XOXO,
Anna

Oooh, and did you see the google banner today? Celebrating the 119th anniversary of the ice cream sundae. I think it’s adorable!

  1. love your photos as always.
and thanks for not naming this post something like *drowning*, cuz that was downright depressing, checking back to see if you had posted and seeing that you were still DROWNING… now, we can happily think of you on a scavenger hunt!
i loved the google banner today, it made me happy.
well… hope your weekend was wonderful. mine was horrific, but that’s another story!
    love memum’s thimble collection.
your lion is adorable. i think i have a crush on him. i had a cat that was my babyitis cat. i wanted another baby so badly, and somehow i ended up with a new kitty. the kids named her smellycat after the song on friends and her elevator didn’t quite go to the top floor. she was cute, but dumb. come to think of it, she kind of reminds me of….
    j/k.
    :waves madly

  2. Loved all the pictures laughed with the peeling paint. Why do we all have a window that needs repainting? But you got me on gramma’s apron. I wish I had kept one of my gramma’s Oh how I miss mine too. Thanks for the pictures and the moment of a wonderful memory. Terri

  3. Love your collection of photos. You could have used one of my sheepie/lambie photos ….. I don’t mind people using my photos as long as they credit me (and give me half of any money they make!!) We have lambs everywhere now – this is the main week for them to be born!

  4. I wonder if that window gets most of the sun as it would explain the peeling of the paint. Your mum seems quite the collector with her thimbles. I tried to use one once but found it annoying for sewing. I love your rainbow of fabrics, lovely and bright!

  5. I love it!

Ok – this is going to sound creepy, but I want more photos of the pantry! Are those glass jars? How do they stay in one piece and not in tiny little shards on the ground like at my house?

  6. Gorgeous photos! Love the look your “lion” is giving you. Did you sleep with one eye open? ;)
Hope you have a super-duper week, Anna.

  7. Anna,
I love all the pictures…but am especially interested in your serger thread. I, too, have many colors, and change thread for special projects. More often than not, however, I make do with white and black. Do you change yours often?

  8. What a dear little lamb & lion you have ( love how you referr to your cat ! ) Great collection & that’s sweet keping your Granny’s apron.

  9. That’s a very amenable cat you have there!

You’ve noticed that you’re about to be replaced as the people who came furthest to cat-sit our furry friends! Australia this time! Where next? The moon?

  10. Love your [not cowardly?] lion and your cute little brown sheepy! And wow! Memum is serious about her thimble collecting….And of course I love your Celtic ring!

  11. I enjoyed all of your pictures once as always, but I had to laugh that you had a comment from someone else who loved the little glimpse of your pantry. Having a 1980s track house, I have no pantry…or even much cupboard space. But, I do have those glass jars like yours and dream of actually having them lined up in a pantry instead of on my counter.

Winkin, Blinkin, and Nod is darling, too!

  12. You will laugh, I love chipping paint. It makes me happy when I see it on my house. Beautiful quilt, what a tresaure xoxo Clarice

  13. My favorite is that sweetest embroidery quilt. The colors are so classic and the images are just adorable.

BTW, re: a video of said tongue action – everyone has their price, but mine is particularly high for that level of self-humiliation ;) Probably best I just leave it to your imagination anyways! haha

  14. I like your set, Anna. I was wondering over the weekend about your pictures. I didn’t even get mine done for last month :(

  15. Your scavenger hunt made me smile, laugh and almost cry — what great pics. LOVE Winkin, Blinkin and Nod and your Grandmother’s apron — so special. My Mema died when I was 36, and I still miss her too and just adore using some of her things, like her old collander, table linens, china and a few other odds and ends on my desk. Sighhhhh. Lovely. Have a great day. Denise

  16. I love your scavenger hunt posts. Also, I can’t remember if I have commented yet on the thimbles as snowboots in the banner, but I laugh every time I see it. And speaking of snow, we got eight new inches here (Conference weekend, you know, it’s tradition) and the top of Timp is nowhere in sight…

  17. Great bunch of snaps Anna! Love your lion!
I didn’t scavenge last month, hope to get some pictures through April though.

  18. Turkeys?? I guess they figure they are traveling ‘out of season’ so it’s a safe passage! ;0

I bought a bunch of Sherbet Pips, too. I figure it will be gone quickly. I’m going to make a quilt for ME out of it! ;0

I love your cool retro bag.

  19. anna,
what a feast for the eye!
u-oh, i should show you the trim of our windows (well, our landlord’s windows – we aren’t responsible for this & aren’t allowed to to them…but you can barely see any paint because – guess what – the painter didn’t use a primer when he came to repair the windows!
back to the beautiful things of life: ooooh, you’re so lucky to have a quilt like this….it’s just wonderful!!!
the lamb is so cute, did you make it yourself?
and, wow, i’m impressed: you dressed up the emptynestchild like this and you could still use your hands to take a picture??? :)
    xo,
    julia
