Happy Spring!

Wow — can you believe it? How can it be the first day of spring already? Or, in our case, we seem to have just skipped spring altogether and jumped into summer. Our weather has been unbelievable this week. Our trees are even leafing out. Here’s our pretty little crabapple tree in the backyard.  We didn’t even have enough of a winter this year to freeze the little crabapples off of the limbs.

Leaves

The trees are leafing out SO early this year. Last year, we didn’t really see leaves until MyDadLovesMeBestSister’s birthday and if you’ve been a longtime reader, you know that’s at the end of April. The good news is that I’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful crabapple blossoms this year — last year they popped out while I was at Spring Market, so I missed them. The bad news is that mowing season will be starting earlier. I’m soooo not ready for that weekly grind. ;-).

The first day of spring is a big deal here in ThimbleannaLand ’cause it’s also TheSecondChild’s birthday. Happy Birthday BigBoy!!! I made a quick little birthday trip to see him over the weekend. We had a nice dinner, cleaned the bachelor pad a bit and did some birthday shopping. On St. Patricks Day, we enjoyed a St. Patrick’s Day bagel for brunch. Love that green!

Bagel

Then, on the way back home I stopped in for a quick visit with TheFirstChild and SweetiePie. More shopping and fun. I LOVE visiting my kids and I miss them terribly. I try not to think about it most of the time, or … well, I don’t know what, but it’s not happy.

Anyway, back to the routine. Now that the applique quilt is done, I’ve been trying to decide on which UFO to tackle next. Plus, I’d like to start a new project just to mix things up a bit, but I’ve been a little overwhelmed by all the inspiration out there. Analysis Paralysis.  In the meantime, I’ve dragged the old bow-tie quilt back out. Maybe I’ll actually get it finished in this round of quilting. Only 3 more bow ties to go and then the borders. It really shouldn’t take THAT long — just need to buckle down and do it.

BowTie

Can you tell that Bow Tie quilt is from the same decade as the applique quilt? What was your first clue? The wine and forest green LOL???

Ok. Off to quilt. Have a great week!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. Ooooooooo! I have a thread holder like that (love it – had it years) and would like another one. Is yours new? If so where did you get it?

  2. Our weather has been very strange too. We are just starting autumn but it is like summer one day and winter the next. I have no idea what is going on in the world weather wise. Hope you enjoyed your visits with your kids, at least you get to have some quite time at home to do your craft!

  3. Happy Spring to you too Anna, hope the warm weather lasts and you get plenty more quilting time in the sun to finish off your quilt.

  4. Our weather’s freaky too – the daffodils I planted in pots have been in leaf for so long they’ve gone yellow at the tips before the flowers have emerged!

That green bagel has slightly scared me …

  5. Oh we’ve already done a little mowing…eek and the mulch was delivered yesterday, it has been so warm here in southern PA too. It feels pretty good though. Glad you enjoyed spending some time with your kids, what would we do without them!!!

  6. We are having lovely Spring weather now. Sadly our little garden suffered from the freezing cold weeks in February and most plants didn’t survive.
Your handquilting stitches on the bowtie quilt are amazing!

  7. Hello hello! Happy Spring to you Anna! How funny to see last years little crabapples still clinging to the branches and how strange it must be to have the leaves emerging to much earlier this year. Still, Spring’s good whenever it comes I reckon.

I really enjoyed this post this morning – thanks so much!

  8. Happy Blossoms! Glad Spring is headed your way..we keep threatening to have spring and then it cools off again.
Can’t wait to see the bow-tie quilt…nothing wrong with forest green and wine…it was a good colour combo! :o) was being the proverbial word!

  9. Isn’t this weather strange? I kept hoping that a little cold snap would come but it can’t now! Everything is in bloom here, the garden is coming up and the chickens are happily eating all the stinkin’ bugs that didn’t die this winter!
Shop Hop is finally here- starts tomorrow and then life will be back to normal. Ahahahaha! What the heck is normal? I also finished my PKM quilt. Finally.
    Have a lovely week, Anna!

  10. crazy weather!
we planed more strawberries last night and pulled weeds and got a bunch of dead leaves out of bushes! kids are a big help with that one!
did you get your backing for the applique project?

  11. And once you’ve finished the bowtie quilt, you can send it along with the applique quilt. They’re still my favorite color combination! :)

  12. Love all the green in your pictures!!! We are weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks from seeing leaves. We have snow on the ground this morning and it is snowing right now. Stop it all ready!!!! I am wishing for spring. That’s all.

Can’t stop thinking about that Danoffee Pie. Seriously. Tell me how it was, k?

  13. Happy Spring and Happy Birthday to your boy! And what about this weather? Do you think it will be 125 degrees all summer long? I love the bowtie quilt. I had one like it but it was 2.5 inches wider at the top compared to the bottom. Still I managed to finish it. It feels so good to finish those projects – like shedding 10 lbs. Still, I say begin a new one!

  14. There’s nothing like time spent with the kids is there – no matter how short. I’m glad you were able to get to see them both. I couldn’t tell that was a bagel – I thought it was a smashed green pepper lol. You go girl on finishing that baby up – hang on to it cuz those colors will reappear again down the road – everything seems to and personally – I like them :). Ice is totally off the lake – crazy huh.

    Hugs – karen

  15. Wow! Where did you get that cool thread holder???! ;p

Hey, any ‘vintage’ quilts you no longer love? Just send them to ME! I’ll keep them in a safe and loving environment. Promise. ;p

  16. You are inpiring me to finish my UFOs. Or….Could I send them along to you to finish. We’re friends right? OK, I just might have to go work on that sampler now. Can’t wait to see the bow tie quilt.

  17. We’re hitting summer this week too. Insane weather. I’m enjoying it but I hope that the temps don’t dip too far down just to make up for the lack of winter!

  18. It’s been a lovely few days here as well. We’re due for some more rain down here in the valley, though, which we sorely need. Rain here means snow in the mountains which means snow pack which means water for the farmers in the summer! Whew!!! We had such a mid winter this year that I had petunias winter over and are already starting to bloom!!!

  19. Happy spring to you too! I was just combing through Pinterest and spent way too much time on your crochet board. I just can’t help myself!

  20. I was just noticing how green and pretty everything is today, too. That green bagel … um. I’m a bagel lover but that does not look very appetizing! Glad you got to spend time with your kids and hope you spend lots more with them.

  21. The wine colour did it for me! SO close to finished – get quilting girl!! I’m with Stacy; that green bagel just looks yucky. Hope it tasted better than it looks.

  22. I can’t believe it’s actually spring already! I don’t really like harsh winters, though I love those fluffy snow days, which we didn’t get at all this winter in lower NY, except for Halloween when we had that snow storm that felled so many trees (and left us without power for 5 days.)

Your little winter thimble banner didn’t even get a huge workout this year. A little sad.

  23. I am absolutely loving this warm, spring weather! I hope we don’t get one last blast of winter. :) You are on quite a roll on finishing projects! I am impressed! :)

  24. i still heart you even though you liked wine and forest green. i just want you to know, that i knew better, even back then. and none of my old friends read your blog and can suggest otherwise!! we just have my jaded memory to go by and i’m insisting that i’ve had good taste even when the trends were less than tasteful.
well.. i’m leaving you now, because, well, it’s in good taste to go while you’re ahead.
    smooches.
    b.

  25. oh things are brewing at the Thimbleanna house. Love the entryway. When we painted ours a couple years ago I was shocked at the difference it made. Love yours. Everything looks fun in this post. That fabric is darn cute.
