Photo Scavenger Hunt: April

Once again, I’m late for the photo scavenger hunt hosted by Kathy. I’ll try to do better next month. Really. I will. ;-D

April Showers: I wasn’t ever home to catch actual showers, but I heard today that it rained 23 out of 30 days here in April. April showers made our little pop-up pond and the ducks are loving it (even though they can stand up in it, they seem to think they need to float.) Yay! Our spring ducks are back!

Breakfast: Certainly not my everyday breakfast, but my idea of perfect!

Eggs:

Something to do with Shakespeare: What’s a girl to do? I went to the internet.

Something to Mark St. George’s Day: Ok. I really tried. Please don’t make me dig through all those Beanie Babies again. I know there’s a dragon in there somewhere but I couldn’t find him. I’m pretending St.George slayed a unicorn.

Something Yellow: Whatever happened to red?

Now I can finally go have a peek at the list for May!

Photo Scavenger Hunt: March

WooHoo!  It’s April!  And the end of the March Hangover.  I was running late all month, and that includes finishing my photos for the March Photo Scavenger Hunt, hosted every month by Kathy.  So, here are my shots:

Peeling paint: A window on our house.  I paint it every other year, then it peels.  Two years ago, we had real painters and Mr. Painter said that whoever painted this trim strip before him didn’t use primer.  I begged to differ since it was me.  And now?  It looks like Mr. Painter didn’t use primer.  Joke’s on him.  There’s just something weird about this piece of trim — it’s the only spot on the house that must be constantly painted.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A shadow: From my serger thread rack in my sewing room.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

Something as old as me: A quilt that MeMum made for me just before I was born.  I wish you could see her embroidery up close and personal — it’s gorgeous.  Her friend drew the scene — it’s Winken, Blinken and Nod.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

An extra close-up photo.  Isn’t it cute?

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A ring:  A little ring that BigDaddy bought me when we visited The Big Pit in Wales.  I wear it on my pinkie and I love it.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A rainbow:  Not happ’nin here in March.  So I made my own.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A lamb:  Dorothy, we’re not in Scotland!  I don’t know any real lambies around here, so you get my knitting tape measure.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A lion:  Well, I would have been perfectly happy to pay the entrance price to our local Children’s Zoo so that I could take a picture of the lions, but they’re closed for the winter.  So, since TheEmptyNestChild thinks he’s a lion, I made him wear a homemade mane.  Poor Guy.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A fancy gate:  Not fancy as in ornate, but fancy as in big.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

A collection:  This is ThimbleannaLand, after all.  This is MeMum’s collection and she was none too happy that I didn’t give her time to polish her thimbles.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

Something sentimental: My grandma’s apron hanging in my pantry.  She died when I was 17 and I still miss her.  I love to wear her apron when I need good cooking karma.

Scavenger Hunt Photo

An empty chair: How ’bout a bunch of empty chairs waiting for spring so they can go outside (to be ravaged by nest building squirrels)?

Scavenger Hunt Photo

Something green: Our chives are bravely peeking out into the chilly spring air.

You can view all of the other entries for the Photo Scavenger Hunt in the flickr group. I love to see all the different interpretations of the list from all over the world.

Have a great week!
XOXO,
Anna

Oooh, and did you see the google banner today? Celebrating the 119th anniversary of the ice cream sundae. I think it’s adorable!

Photo Scavenger Hunt: February

Time for the February Photo Scavenger Hunt, hosted by Kathy!  I love this scavenger hunt because a)  it’s so fun to see pictures of the same thing from all over the world, and b) there are some really fun interpretations of the same word (“eye” was a good one this month!)  My photos aren’t from exciting London, like Kathy’s and Abi’s, but I still have fun anyway.  And I love that the monthly assignment gets me out exploring my neck o’ the woods.

So, here are my shots for this month:

A Big Truck: I did not text and drive!

Big Truck

A Big Round Clock: Our federal courthouse — er, maybe that’s county courthouse.

Clock Face

A Bridge: Pitiful.  I waited too long in the month for this picture and I’m sure there are much more beautiful bridges around here.  Rust is beautiful though, right?

Bridge

An Instrument: Poor neglected piano — I had to dust her keys before I could take the picture.

Instrument

A Newspaper Headline: Interesting juxtaposition of Luxury and Default.

Headline

A Park Bench: Well sort-of — it’s along a running path out in the boonies.

ParkBench

A Postbox: Classic model.  I love how the blue paint faded.

Mailbox

Eyes: Young and wrinkle-free.

Eyes

Something Heart-Shaped: The heart doctors.

Heart

Something Red: Are you seeing red? {Har Har}.

Red

Something with Stripes: Tell me zebras aren’t the first thing that pops into your mind when someone says “stripes”.

Stripes

Your Shoes: I bought these for quilt market in the fall and had to quit wearing them on the first day — I spend all my time crawling around on the floor and I was rubbing the finish off of the toes.  Looks like those toes need polishing again.  These may be the most comfy shoes I’ve ever had — I love ’em.

Shoes

Thanks for hosting Kathy!  There’s a flickr group if you want to see more photos — there are some really fun photos uploaded this month.  I can’t wait to see what the March assignment will be!

XOXO,
Anna

Photo Scavenger Hunt: January

Thank you so much for all of your great comments about the laundry basket liner.  It was a really fun project to make — and it was lots of fun to be on Moda Bakeshop!

My other fun project for January has been the January Photo Scavenger Hunt, hosted by Kathy.  I had a great time taking my photos, so here they are…

Abandoned Building: I know this one doesn’t exactly look abandoned, but it is.  The inside of this fairly new house burned out 2 or 3 years ago and the insurance company, mortgage company, owners and who-knows-who-else have been stuck in legal wranglings since then.  Rumor has it that the battle is near the end and the house will be demolished.

Abandoned Building

Stained Glass Window: Whaaaat????    This restaurant/chain just opened up in our area in December.  I was in great hopes that the “kilt” in the title meant that there would be a plethora of men in kilts.  Sadly, not the case, but at least the food isn’t half bad.

StainedGlass

Goldfish: At Walmart.

Goldfish

Yarn: Boy, that was a tough one in this house.  ;-)

Yarn

Playground Equipment: SweetiePie and I found an old little merry-go-round while goofing off at a salvage place one day.

PlaygroundEquipment

Library: The children’s section at our library.  (The library was a fun place to take book pictures!)

Library

Tombstone over 100 Years Old: Thanks to Jenny, I knew where to go and look for a tombstone this old.  I’m always fascinated by childrens’ tombstones.  These were from two little girls in the same family — born about three years apart and both about three years old when they died.  You can’t see it in the photo, but their names are carved across the tops of the stones.   I didn’t notice one name, but the other one was Nellie.  There must be a very sad story there.

Tombstone

My Front Door: Icky picture.

FrontDoor

Reflective Surface … not a mirror: A window on our house, reflecting a house across the street.

ReflectiveSurface

Something Out of Place: Bike rack, anyone?

OutofPlace

Nature: A squirrel having a winter snack.  MeMum told me the other day that she watches the squirrels out of her window and she’s always amazed that they know where they buried their nuts.  They dig in the snow and they always come up with a little something to munch on.

Nature

Bubbles: When I grow up, I’ll learn how to take fantastic pictures like Kitty Wrinkle (I mean, holy cow…check out this one — I LOVE that shot!)  Until then, a whisk making bubbles in the sink will have to do.

Bubbles

And that’s it!  I can’t wait for the February challenge!  Thanks Kathy for hosting, and Lisa for telling me about the challenge in the first place!

XOXO,
Anna

Oh, and btw…

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR BRIGITTE!!!!
