Whew!

What a whirlwind weekend we had here!  I felt like I won the lottery on Saturday morning (well, I did really) — THANK YOU for all your wonderful comments of congratulations!  I can’t tell you how very excited I am to have won Kellie’s beautiful Lilly Pilly quilt — Kellie is such a warm and generous person (and fabulous Mum) and I’m beyond thrilled that I’ll be able to see her beautiful quilting in the flesh.  THANK YOU Kellie.  From the bottom of my heart…Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!  Kellie’s patterns are starting to come to the U.S. and I can’t wait until she’ll be coming here to teach classes — it WILL happen someday, won’t it Kellie???  So … I have nothing crafty to show, yet again, but gee … I have a good excuse, don’t you think?  It’s been hard to concentrate!

Quilting Tools

I did manage to do a bit of big stitch quilting with pearl cotton, but it’s been slow-going.  And SweetiePie was here on Sunday night and Monday.  We had a wonderful time quilting together — she on her project and I on mine.  MeMum even graced us with her presence for a few hours on Monday.  SweetiePie and I talked a lot about Lilly Pilly (Eeek!)  We’ve decided that when I finally get the boys rooms cleaned out and re-done, it would be the perfect centerpiece of a Grandbaby room … robin’s egg blue walls (for the boys) and the gorgeous pink Lilly Pilly (for the girls).  Wouldn’t that be fun?

SweetiePie and I also talked a lot about yoyos.  We went to our friend’s house so that SweetiePie could see the Ethan Allen yoyo quilt (I’m trying to get her hooked!)  This time I examined the EA quilt — the yoyos are just a bit bigger than the ones I’m making with the large-size clover maker and there are just over 2500 yoyos in the king-sized quilt.  Holy Cow!  Needless to say, I won’t be making a king-size version.  ;-)  When we came home, SweetiePie decided to experiment with bigger yoyos.  Pretty big, huh?

Giantyoyo

Yeah, it’s not very practical to have them that big, but the quilt would sure go together a lot faster, no?

And just so you have a little something to think about this week, here’s a picture of my September guy from my Extreme Ironing calendar at work.  (Shhh, don’t tell, we can’t have cameras at work, so I had to take this with my cell phone.)

Extreme Ironing

Just Because.  There’s nothing hotter than a man wielding an iron.  Have a great week!

XOXO,
Anna

P.S.  Penny has put a poll on the Flea Market Fancy Freaks blog to ask what colorway you would prefer if Free Spirit were to reprint the fabric.   Also, there are almost 500 signatures on the petition to bring Flea Market Fancy back — if you haven’t signed it yet, run over and do so now!

  1. I’ve never seen yoyos that big! I can’t even get my hubby to iron in the house, much less on a cliff face. LOL.
    (I have DNL patterns BTW)

  2. Sounds like you’re busy and will have something to show us soon… won’t you? Maybe that yoyo quilt will be all done in a few days…? haha.

Love the ‘hot’ guy with the iron. My husband irons a shirt for work every night. I wonder if he knows how very attractive that is. :)

  3. what on earth is sweetiepie going to do with that awful yoyo?
i want to see the large stitching you’ve been doing…. in PINK thread no less!
that man hanging from the cliff isn’t very hot. you’re just getting winded at the thought of someone else doing your ironing.
    just. don’t. iron.
send it to the cleaners, or wear it wrinkled. buy lots of linen. call it a day.
iron is a four letter word, unless you’re using it for quilting, and then it’s entirely acceptable.
    :waves madly

  4. The clarity on your cell phone picture is great. I guess he’s hot since he’s holding an iron!! Lol! Can’t wait to see what you’re working on. The huge yoyo could pass for an old fashioned ice bag to use on your head.

  5. You can’t have cameras at work? Do you do secret stuff…omg you’re a spy!!! LOLOL!!! That is one big yo-yo. If I made a yo-yo quilt I would have to make it that size! Sounds like you had a good weekend with Sweetiepie and Memum! I want to see your big stitch quilting, I am thinking of doing some on a mini-quilt but I’m on the fence…so seeing yours would be most helpful :)

  6. I hope I will have my own “sweetie pie” someday (well, hopefully 3 of them!) to craft with from time to time – there’s a sad lack of crafting companions around here!
That calendar shot is a riot!

  7. A grandbaby room – what a gorgeous idea!

Congrats again on winning – that lovely quilt is going definitely going to the person who will treasure it the most :-)

  8. The quilt will be just perfect for a grandbaby room :)

Maybe that’s how I can encourage Moogsdad to do some ironing – turn it into an extreme sport!!

    xxx

  9. mmmmm grandchildren …. are you trying to tell us something?????

My quilt could not be going to a better home. I am absolutely thilled with how the giveaway turned out. Thnak you Anna for being so kind and funny and generally a big sweetiepie yourself!

  10. Do you remember the HUGE yo-yo quilt that was in cutting edge magazine a few years ago? I can’t seem to google up a photo of it, but the yo-yo’s were dinner plate sized and it was awesome. (I do have the magazine somewhere in the sewing room. Pity they shut down that magazine after just a few issues.)

  11. Okay first of all… You WON the QUILT! That is so fantastic! Love that quilt. And secondly, you’ve inspired me to make a yo-yo quilt. Well, maybe I should say you’ve inspired me to start one! xxoo

  12. Anna????????????? Are you going to be a Grandma??? Congrats on the quilt and wow is that a big yoyo. Love the iron man. teehee

  13. I have a great idea! Why don’t you fly out here in December and you can go with me and take Anne’s YoYo Chic Charm Square class at Thimble Creek? She’s showing it on her blog right now. How fun would that be!!!?!!! I have a lovely guest room you could stay in and I’m trying to get Becky (Sweet Cottage Dreams Beck) to go, too! Fun Fun Fun!!!

  14. I’ve never heard of the Extreme Ironing calendar, but I love that pic. You are so funny! I will have to keep an eye out for it, that would make a great gift for my sister.

  15. No matter how macho that man looks dangling in mid air with an ironing board, my husband would still not iron. lol
2500 yoyos? Yikes! it’s amazing how you can look at something and not really see how involved it is. Maybe the giant yoyos aren’t such a bad idea afterall. ;)

  16. How awesome you won that beautiful quilt. It’s so special to have something so wonderfully created. I love all the activities you’re pursuing; you’re certainly keeping busy.

  17. You won the Lilly Pilly quilt? You are so lucky pucky! I won a pin cushion rabbit named Mr. Cupcakes once. He’s the bomb! Congrats Anna.

  19. A big congrats to you on winning!!! Boy I have missed visiting you. I am way out of bloggy touch with everyone!!! Great calendar…just sayin’!

  20. I love the yo-yo quilt…I’m envious! You have great karma – you give alot, you receive alot. I started some yo-yo’s once…need to start some again, not getting much done these days as I have a new Yorkie puppy named Madison (and am down in the back- but getting an epidural tomorrow). Maddie loves to chew on my knitting – I feel like I have an infant – I knit when she’s napping. love looking at your site and links – such motivating eye-candy. Be well…Robin

  21. Have to clarify my reply…love the quilt you won and the yo-yo quilt. re-read & think before you hit “submit”… grin
    Robin

  22. I have absolutely never seen a yo-yo that big. It would definitely make the quilt come together a whole lot faster. What size quilt are you doing with the yo-yos?

I’m thinking about making a few yo-yo pillows for my new house and using many different shades of green.

Congratualtions on winning the pattern contest. Her work is definitely one worth getting very excited over. I can not wait for her patterns to be released over here in the U.S.

Can’t wait to see the projects and big stitch quilting you are working on!

    Thanks for posting,
    Katie
