Twin 1 and Twin 2

A few months ago, my little friend at work announced that she is expecting twins in October. We’re all very excited for her and, of course, I spent lots of time dreaming of a fun baby shower with one of those beautiful dessert tables that you see all over the internet. I was smacked back into reality when I realized 1) my house would be torn up all summer, and 2) if you want work people to attend any sort of “shower” you need to plan it over a lunch hour.

Even though it would be a quick event (we decided to go to Pizza Hut so that guests could choose the salad/pizza buffet and we wouldn’t have to wait on orders for a group), I decided that we should be able to have a little fun with it. The internet came to my rescue when I saw several references that converted Dr. Suess’s Thing 1 and Thing 2 to Twin 1 and Twin 2. If you’ve been reading along here, you know how crazy I am about The Things.  So, we started with an invitation.

Baby Invitation

Then, we moved on to cupcakes, made in the same style as the rehearsal dinner cupcakes.  Twin 1 and Twin 2 cupcakes were definitely not my finest cupcake hour, but the ladies seemed ok with them.

Baby Shower

Luckily, Pizza Hut let me decorate a little bit. I covered the tables with white plastic and “created” a table runner by folding my Twin 1 and Twin 2 fabric in on the sides. A few balloon centerpieces, a few sprinkles and the cupcakes and we had a simple, quick table.

Baby Shower

There was an awkward moment when they asked me where I got the “twin” fabric. Ummm…I just had it? ‘Cause, you know, everyone has a bunch of Dr. Suess fabric just lying around, don’t they?  I’m sure glad I didn’t have to show them my stash. It’s better if your non-quilting coworkers don’t know the depths of your illness.

Baby Shower

Anyway, everything went well and we all had a good time. And when we returned to the office, we offered the real twins a cupcake. They had to share.

Have a great weekend!

Anna

  1. “It’s better if your non-quilting coworkers don’t know the depths of your illness.”

So true. What we call a hobby can look a lot like obsession to others! Anyway, your shower looks like a blast – great idea.

  2. dang! i love the change to your blog header…cupcake thimbles!! i think the cupcakes look wonderful! yay!! ;0

  3. Anna:

Great idea for a lunch time shower. I realized while reading your blog, we live in the same city. I live out SW by the Coventry Pizza Hut!

I also agree, your non-quilting co-workers don’t need to know the depths of your illness!!

  4. Love the new header! What a fun baby-shower!

Not only non-quilting co-workers don’t need to know about the depths of our illness, but all non-quilting people think we are kind of crazy and obsessed!

  5. That is fantastic!! I have just been making Twin 1 and 2 costumes for my girls. I should have bought some of that fabric!

  6. Oh, Anna, you ROCK! What a great shower you threw together. And I see absolutely nothing wrong with having a fabric stash. It’s a necessity, isn’t it? Huh? I’m pretty sure I read that somewhere.

    The cupcakes look great, too!

  7. The decorated table and cupcakes look so great Anna. You could be in the cupcake catering business…you know with the new kitchen and all!!! Have a great weekend!

  8. I think that’s brilliant!!! Esp. the fabric :)
The table looks really wonderful, and makes things so pretty and personal.

    Great job Anna!

    blessings,
    Niki

  9. What a wonderful theme – just brilliant. Love all your little touches.

Your new header is most inspired… it just may be my favourite yet!

  10. So cute! It’s amazing how just a little digging through your stash pulled the whole “thing” together!
    PS Love the new header!

  11. CUTE! Love the theme and special touches. Especially LOVE the Twins with cupcake shot! And… header is adorable too. Have a great day, Anna!

  12. Thank you for all the ideas. When first son got married I didn’t have a clue what I was doing and had very limited means. (Son number 2 had just graduated from high school started college) Thank you for all the ideas for son number 2 who is getting married next year! I can’t wait to share the cupcake idea with him and his fiance!

  13. hooray for you!
what a fantastic lunchtime shower idea and your Cat in the Hat has now proven useful!!!
    :applauds you fervently
i’m also smitten with you again now that you’ve moved back to magnolia.
this illness you have, it’s contagious, you should warn your friends.

  14. Super fun. But I gotta tell ya, I still hyperventilate when I think about that book “Cat in the Hat”. The mess & destruction just stresses me out, man!!! (I have issues.) ;)

  15. Anna you are sooooooooooooooooo thoughtful and creative and I am happy to count you as one of my BFF’s!!!!! xoxo

  16. What fun!!! I love the table decorations and the cupcakes look divine! I love how they are presented in the darling polka dot and clear plastic boxes. So CUTE!!!!

  17. Just had to stop by and send you cyber hugs and kisses galore!!! I’ve just made the vanilla cupcakes from your last post and I think my DH is going to ask me to marry him!! (again! LOL) They were perfect and that is saying something as we are a no egg household (two of us are allergic) and it is always a bit iffy making new recipes using my egg replacement that I get from the health food shop…but these cupcakes turned out light and fluffy just like one with eggs and the crumb was perfect and I’m overjoyed that once again the cupcake in all its glory is back in my life!

    Thank you thank you!!!

(P.S….sorry for the ramble…must be the sugar high!!) :o)

  18. SO VERY ADORABLE! I have “twin” fabrics too. Since I’m a twin, I reasoned it was OK :) Very precious & generous of you.

  19. I LOVE THIS IDEA. The table is absolutely adorable. What more could you possibly need? A
lunch time shower is a great idea especially for a group of working women. There is a reason for that fabric. It’s practical to plan for a rainy day (or a shower). You never know when you might need just such a piece of fabric. And I love the cupcakes too.

  20. Oh Anna…you did a great job on the shower. And as far as the fabric stash goes….most people are on a “need to know.” Most often, they DON’T (need to know, that is ;)

    Have a great weekend.

  21. Love the header…..the worse thing is none of us blinked to see frosting on thimbles! Shower decs look great too.

  22. You are the queen of entertaining, Anna and such a blessing! And yeah, we aaaaalll have yards of dr suess fabric just laying around. Really. I’m not just saying that to make you feel better about your addiction either. Ok, maybe I am.

  23. That is adorable!
(I had my girls dress as “Thing 1 & 2” for Halloween a few years ago…My twin nephews have been “Chip and Dale” a number of times. t was cute: “Oh, no – I DO INSIST… after you!”)

You did a GREAT job! Congrats to your friend. It is an amazing journey!

Is the Thing fabric still available? That would make for cute doll blankets for my girls… oh, off to search the internets!

  24. that last pictures of the boys with their cupcake is priceless!

so … did you make cloth diapers outta some of that fabric? and if you did, did you remember to leave an ‘opening’ for their … well … you-know-whats?!?

    bwah ha ha ha!!!

  25. Wow Anna, that table setting looks fantastic! Your co-worker must have been so thrilled – especially with that wonderful table runner and the cupcakes. Brilliant!

have a good week “virtual” girlfriend!

  27. So cute! I love that you can reuse your “table runner” instead of having to give it to someone who’ll never use it again. I also just noticed your new(?) header. LOVE!

  28. Wow, you are a great friend! X x what a fabulous and simple idea, not going overboard like some of these parties I see!! And your new thimbles are fitting! Cute! How is the new kitchen coming along?

  29. That is CuTeIer than CuTE!!!!! how very clever you are!!!!!!

thought of you yesterday when I saw ghastlies…. not sure you WANT me to think of you everytime I see them but I do.. wink!

  30. Super cute! My Thing 1 and Thing 2 are now 14 years old and was so excited when the Dr.Seuss line came out recently. For Halloween when they were 2 I machine embroidered Thing 1 and Thing 2 on white felt circles then heat bonded them onto red sweatshirts…it was so cute! Love your decorations, great job!
