Thimbleanna

November Already!

Kind of scary, huh? Did you all have a good weekend? It was very busy here and I had a great weekend! I even got a new blog banner done — extra special for my QueenNagger (with the spiffy new blog banner herself!)  Bye, Bye Coneflowers! And just to clarify, that is not photoshop, those are REAL thimblecorns!

My weekend consisted of

Cleaning:

WalnutShellJar

(Especially the dungeon where I had a big bag of walnut shells that I use for pincushion stuffing and I didn’t want it to spill all over, so I got a new jar and scoop to hold it all. It sits on my cutting table and I love it!)

Sewing:

SewingWithPie

(We were lucky enough to have a visit from SweetiePie — she worked on a project at one end of the table while I worked on my nine-patch at the other end.)

Sleeping:

SleepingKitties

(The lazy kitties upstairs, while we were toiling away in the dungeon.  The fat EmptyNestChild on the left, Paul on the right.)

and,

Playing:

Leaves

(We went to MeMum and BigDaddy’s to help rake leaves, but ended up playing more than working.)

And Halloween and lots of candy to boot.  Now it’s over and the full on sprint to the holidays starts.  I’m. So. Not. Ready.  Are YOU???

XOXO,
Anna

  1. No, I’m not ready at all for any of it. I should have taken my Halloween down Saturday when I was in the mood. Now I won’t get to it until next Saturday.

  2. Oh my gosh, that picture of the leaves is priceless. I love your new header. I’m not quite ready for the holidays, but I’m starting to think about gifts for my family and what I’ll serve when everyone comes over for dinner.

  3. Do you get creepy crawlies in the leaves??? It looks like so much fun rolling in them!! I’d be terrified of snakes, spiders and cane toads *yuck*

  4. What a fun header! I simply love it! Your pincushion is so cute sitting there on your cutting board.

  5. Oh, wish I could grow thimblecorns. They’d look lovely in our garden.

And as for the holidays, well of course I’m ready! (And the beauty of blogland is that I can show the bits that are sorted out and hide the bits that asren’t, mwahahaha!) Mind you, we don’t have Thanksgiving o deal with – if we were talking about a major holiday 3 weeks away I might be singing a very different tune!

  6. I love your thimblecorns, how cute is that! Not to mention that beautiful little table up there. Sounds like a really wonderful weekend. Ready for the sprint to the holidays? Ummmm, not so much.

  7. Ready for winter? Ready for the holidays? Winter really creeps up on us here. It’s really cold, brrr! But the holidays, well. We don’t celebrate thanksgiving, but do have another holiday here: Sinterklaas. It’s celebrated on december 5th and all the christmas decorations etc will have to wait until after that date. So it gives me a little time. On the other hand: That’s what I think every year and in the end I always end up rushing :-)

  8. Help! What are thimblecorns??? Have I missed something. Is it a joke. Oh, I am so thimble illiterate, LOL!

That pincushion in the first photo is cute! The leaf photo is hilarious!

  9. Love your fun, pretty pictures and your new Thimblecorns, Anna. Looks like a perfect weekend! I’m ready, less yard work = more sewing time, can’t wait to see your nine patch.

  10. Love your new header! You’re so creative!
Looks like a great weekend in your neck of the woods. We don’t have enough leaves in our yard to rake but your romp in the pile of leaves is a classic. Thanks for another great post!

  11. I love your new header! Those thimbles are really beautiful!

Where did you get the Math Curse poster? I need to find one of those. My husband is a mathematician and our daughter is a math/cs double major and we got her that book when she was little. She would love it.

  12. Love all the pics. Can I ask where you purchased the walnut shells? I have tried our local Pet Smart with no luck. Don’t know where to try. Thanks.

  13. I love your new header…what a fun time you all had…playing in the leaves looks like a blast. I’m not even close to being ready for the holiday rush.

  14. oh now – those thimblecorns are just too cute!

i bought a pretty new jar to make Christmas Glogg … when the drink has been drunk i think i will use the pretty jar for walnut shells, too!

  15. Love the new banner! And thanks for that idea for storing the crushed walnut shells. It looks great, keeps it handy and might even nudge one to make more pincushions!!
I’m *getting ready*…we see the whole family at Thanksgiving and usually deliver the gifts then to avoid mailing. I dropped the ball last year and ruined December for myself, rushing around playing beat the clock with mailing deadlines. Not too mention the waste of time in post office lines and $ in mailing costs. I will be finished, mostly, in a few weeks. Try it! It makes the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas so much more relaxed!

  16. Your banner looks fantastic.
I am soooooo not ready for the holidays!! I’m working away on getting stuff done though, I’ll finish up my list this week and start scheduling everything. My thanksgiving menu should be done by tomorrow or the next day because i have to schedule my grocery shopping trips in (we don’t have any grocery stores around here except for regular ones like safeway, etc, so i have to drive to go to whole foods (aka whole paycheck) and andronicos for specialty items.
looks like you’d better get to work making pincushions, since you have jar o’ walnut shells!!
have a fun week, thanks for the great post.
    :waves madly

  17. I hate to ‘fess up to ignorance, but that [beautiful] jar is full of ground walnut shells? is that something that sharpens the needles when you wiggle them around in the pin cushion?
Oh to have a clue enought to be able to make gorgeous banners like that. I tried, and failed, to put the BH logo on my sidebar…..sigh.

  18. I am NOT ready for the holidays. I just can’t believe they’re almost here! I really am loving fall though, even the time change has helped me. I have been going to bed earlier and getting up earlier. I hope this habit lasts :) It makes mornings so much easier.

I love the new banner….so cute!!

  19. Not ready either! I’ve started making lists – does that count?? I need to get out there and start doing a little shopping every week.

  20. I’m excited for the mad holiday dash to begin! I’m actually ahead of schedule in making gifts so I am feeling pretty good about things… for now. It’s always that “one more” project that gets me every year. I love your thimblecorns!

    Jennifer :)

  21. Love the new banner.
And those lazy kitties. So cute.
I’m determined not to get stressed out this year.
Maybe we’ll take a cruise and skip Christmas…

  22. November…I just can’t believe it…so much to do…but I need to clean first…love your idea to store the crushed walnut shells…mine are just in the bag they came in…and I’m always worrying about it spilling, too! Thanks for the terrific idea!

  23. Looks like a GREAT weekend, Anna!

Tell me about the walnut shell stuffing…do you buy it like this or do you ground the shells yourself? You’ve got me thinking about other ways to use the ten million walnuts we get on our lawn each year…

You’re very fortunate to have a daughter in law who sews!

    Holidays, here we come!

    XO

  24. Anna, my thimblecorns didn’t make it this year, do you fertilize? I want to come play in your dungeon…………………….looks like fun.xoxo

  25. It’s not November. It’s not November. It’s not November. Maybe if I say it enough, it will be true. lol I have so much to cram in between now and the end of the year my head is spinning. I think I need a weekend like yours- full of fun and productivity.

  26. Love your walnut shell jar! I have my rice for stuffing in a big stainless steel bowl that doesn’t fit anywhere…your idea is better!

  27. love your new header! and I have a bag of that crushed walnut shells also…never thought to make it look pretty. I’ve been hiding it. What was I thinking??? It looks l-o-v-e-l-y.

  28. I love your new header too, very fall-ish. The pincushion idea is neat too. We seem to have many of the same tastes in kitchen items. I have that same glass canister for flour and sugar…and, of course, we both like out M.A. Hadley, don’t we?

  29. I think I told you how darling your new header is. Looks like a nice weekend at your house. Same here. Busy stuff and a little sewing. But holy cow. I do the math for getting serious Christmas sewing done and I’m back in the corner like I was last year. Life is full. I enjoy that. So I just have to do the best I can. You too!

  30. Oh I love those Thimblecorns – they are gorgeous!!

Those are fab photos Anna – those lazy kitties, that fun in the leaves but best of all you and Sweetiepie sewing together :)

I’m trying to ignore the upcoming festivities – at least for a couple more weeks until Monster’s birthday and then it’ll be Christmas here we come!!

    xxx

  31. I love your new header and NO I am totally NOT ready for the holidays (I am a teeny bit freaking out actually)! hehehe… HUGS sweetest pea!

  32. Hi Anna…I’m so glad I can still type after scrolling down through all those comments :) I have a silly question. Do you grind the walnut shells yourself or buy them that way. I don’t get out much.

    Love,
    Amy

  33. sister friend I always enjoy your photos – always great angles – hey where do you get your walnut shells?

    Hugs – Mrs. Farmhouse

  34. Yes, it’s November. I think it was yesterday one of kids had a shocked face and said “are you serious, it’s November!” Even the little ones are feeling time fly.
Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. Love the feet and hands sticking out of leaves.

  35. Anna, I am loathe to mention it but there is something in the leaves. Something not good. I don’t like to look at it. Best call David Duchovny. He’ll know what to do.

  36. The thimblecorns are just FAB! I didn’t know you used walnut shells for pincushions. Where have I been? Is that what the pretty jar of stuff is? I’ve used sand before, but I didn’t even know you could get ground walnut shells.

Who did you rake up in those leaves? ~smile~

    Jody

  37. I’m so not ready for the holidays. It always comes up too quickly every single year. I also lost my presser foot to my berina but luckily I found a Bernette yesterday at a thrift store to get me through the next two months. whew!

  38. I LOVE you new header!! You do the cutest things with thimbles :) I have come so close to spilling my big bag of walnut shells more times than I care to count, that’s a great idea!

  39. Nope…Not quite ready yet or even thinking about it…and…They’re coming to my house this year. You are too funny! I love the bottom pic.

  40. Before I even read your post, I must comment on your header!! The thimbles with the acorn tops are sooooo clever!! Absolutely love them!! Now… on to your post!
    XOXO
    Joni

  41. Love that pincushion on your table. I’ve got to get some of those walnut shells. Great leaf picture of you jumping in the leaves. That was your buried wasnt it?

  42. i LOVE the container of crushed walnut shells on your counter. i bought some of those (and shared with my retreat peeps) because i doubt i’ll EVER make that many pincushions. i like your storage much better than my ziploc bag.

love that you played in the leaves. i think we will get a chance to do a good bit of that today. i remember when my grandma and i jumped into the leaves together…she had to be about 77 or better. it surprised me and is one of my fondest memories with her.

  43. I didn’t know that walnut shells are a good stuffing for pincushions. Thank you for sharing that idea.

I love the new banner. Very clever!
