Just Playin’ Around

A few weeks ago, I won an adorable brooch kit from Dear Fii. It arrived a few days ago and I couldn’t wait to sew all the buttons on my little kit.

Dear Fii Brooch

Looking at the picture of my brooch, I realize that a) I need more practice to become as good as Dear Fii, and b) my brooch needs one more button there in the middle, to cover up that little gap.

Dear Fii Brooch

It was super fun to sew this little brooch together. Thanks Fiona — I just love it and it will look so pretty on my winter coat!

Speaking of winter (oh, wasn’t that a sad segue?), I always want to knit more in winter. No time lately to drag out the needles, so I’ve amused myself with a few games. I saw this meme on One Dropped Stitch awhile ago, and had fun filling it out.  Bold for things you have done, italics for those you want to do, and normal for ones you don’t plan on doing. There aren’t many italics – guess I’m not very adventurous.

Let me know if you do the knitting meme — I’d love to read what you’ve done/not done!
And from Daily Yarns ‘n More, you can go find out what kind of Ewe you are — here I am:

Dear Fii Brooch

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  I’d love to finish my nine-patch this weekend, but we’re expecting beautiful weather, so I’ll be outside wrangling leaves!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. That pin is as cute as a button! (Snorting while I laugh at myself. I am so easily amused.) As for the knitting…I still can’t do it. Maybe you could add Teach a Dork How to Knit to the meme. Then you could show me how to do it. LOL!

    Have a great weekend, Anna~

  2. I love your button brooch. What a clever idea!
I’ve always wanted to knit, but learned to crochet instead. Maybe some day!
Happy Knitting! Can’t wait to see what you make.

  3. Love the button brooch! Wow, that is cute. I’ve been wanting to do more knitting lately, too. I wish I could knit faster though … I like the gratification that comes with finishing a project, and it takes so darn long for me to finish knitting anything.

  4. Love the brooch, pretty pretty. AND, please tell me, did you make the little acorn thimbles. OM goodness, those are the cutest thing ever! i mean ever:))) That is a huge list, I don’t think I have done any, but would love to do a few, oh the time, the time, we just need more of it!

  5. I wish I knew how to knit.

If you ever change your mind about the knitting with dog/cat hair, let me know! Our English Setter sheds enough to make a sweater with in no time!

  6. I love your brooch, so pretty. I too have the urge to knit and am knitting a little 12″ dolly, I think she’s going to knit up cute. I’m going to check your links!

  7. I ought to be leaf wrangling but instead I am busy tending the fire, baking pizza and waiting for the Smalls to come out of their bath so I can snuggle them to bed. Then hit the red wine ;-)

  8. Hi Anna, I’m like you – definitely a cold weather knitter! So, I love my first recent project (noro blossom triangle scarf), am disappointed with my most recent finish (Colinette Venezia yarn, Kaffe Fasset “Tainted Scarf” – way too scratchy and the two balls of yarn are totally different) and can’t find my other project…………. :o( So can you please tell me where it is??????

  9. your brooch is very cute.
i don’t even know what most of those knitting terms are, but all i can say is that i’m happy you’ll be knitting all winter, cuz i have a goal, remember? all my socks are to be hand-knit. melissa has given me ONE pair so far, so.. again… you’d better get to work.
    happy leafing.

  10. The brooch is so cute and yes I would pop another one in the middle. I dont think I am a very adventurous knitter either but I have been trying a few little things over the years. All in good time I say!

  11. Its a pretty button broach and I don’t see any gaps. I have done some knitting, but not in a long time.

  12. Hmmmn…camel yarn, banana fiber yarn, dog/cat hair? Maybe some of those would be italicized in my version. How about knitting with chicken feathers? ;)

    XO

    Love the brooch!

  13. Your brooch is adorable…what are you talking about? Oh and speaking of segues…what are you talking about in that meme lol, truly a different language. Have I ever told you my sock knitting story? Oh I so need to blog that…

  14. Your brooch is very pretty. Looks as though you’ve been having fun one way and another. I took the ewe test and I’m a Perendale like you:)

  15. Wow, that is some long list. I have been knititng like crazy woman, but there is soo much on that list I have not done. Love the pin by the way. Clarice

  16. Anna I sooooo thought your brooch was a cookie when i first looked at it! My first thought was, oh no! here come the inches!!

  17. Oh how sweet..I love the brooch!!!! I always wear a seasonal one on my winter coat…but have never thought to make my own. I’m going to do your meme…We’ll see how many I have.

  18. Hi Anna! Love the button brooch. It was windy here yesterday – I hope for you too so the leaves could wait a day and you could sew…maybe with the windows open?! I watched football and continued to bind. Loved reading about your knitting. Where can we find more time? Anne

  19. I was just looking at some of my photos and wondering if other people had such silly ones (eg my niece hiding behind a big house plant and my son trying on my daughter’s spider costume) – and now I’ve seen your leaves photo, my question is answered.

So decent of you to provide those cats with such pretty and elegant chairs. Such a bonny blue!

  20. I love your pin with the lovely buttons!! You will cheer up the winter season with it on your coat.

I am also a winter knitter!! It just seems to go together! Long scaves that curl up on my lap as I stitch away!! Love that feeling!! Cozy knitting!

  21. Great job on your brooch! Very cute! Where can I get the pattern? I went to Fiona’s site but all I see are ones that she is made already. I have so many old buttons that I would rather make my own. Do you know if she sells the patterns?

  22. Love your new header! And your brooch is gorgeous!
Knitting is great to bring on vacation. I was knitting on the plane both to and from Florida, and while I sat outside on the balcony at our hotel. I was using wool in temp like 92-95F! Worked fine! LOL

  23. What a monstrous list. I’m intimidated just reading through the first half. Good on you – and that broach is cute. Speaking of which, I do believe I have a lot of buttons. I think these brooches would look cute as gift toppers…

  24. Your pin project is adorable. I like the idea of working with little buttons in this way. The knitting list is rather intimidating, isn’t it? I worked on a knitting project this summer that’s almost done, the knitting part anyway, now I need to learn how to crochet so I can finish it. Guess that will wait until next summer. It’s so funny how some things overlap in projects.

  25. gorgeous brooch!!! I love the colours…
That sure is some list… You’ve done so much and I can’t wait to see all of the projects you have planned to complete..

    Take Care
