R.I.P. Steve Jobs

By now, you’ve probably heard the very sad news of Steve Jobs’ death. What an amazing man who has touched most of our lives.

I don’t currently own any apple products (there is hope) but I’ll never forget our first home computer. The very humble Apple II.

Apple II

We lived in Germany when the Apple II first came out and when I came home to visit family, my orders were to “Bring back that new little Apple computer.” It was all so very exciting. Would this new home computer thing just be a passing fancy? Were we throwing our money away? Oh, the fun we had writing little programs in Basic. I was so desperate for home-useful programs that I wrote a program to tell me what part of the house I needed to clean every day. Boy, oh boy, those were the days!

A few years ago I watched this video from Steve Jobs’ Stanford 2005 Commencement Address. Definitely worth the time to watch.

And tonight, I found this on YouTube .

R.I.P. Steve Jobs. You’ve left an indelible mark on our world — Thank You for leaving it a far better place than you found it.

XOXO,
Anna

  1. It’s so very sad. I only own a iPod but his passing leaves a very big hole. He was innovative and creative and the world is a lesser place with his passing. RIP Steve Jobs. toni xxx

  2. I’ve a iMAC, and an iPod and an iPad..my newest love! And as soon as my contract is up I’ve been planning on an iPhone. Amazing how one man’s vision can change how the world lives and works.

  3. Know that our personal computing ability is strongly linked to his innovations and even though Microsoft and Windows are bigger much of what they offer are poor copies of ideas from Apple. Without the personal computer innovations made from this man’s vision the world would be a much less technology capable place.

  4. Amazing how much this one man changed the way we conduct our lives! I had just been re-watching that Stanford Commencement address before coming to visit here, and I thought I must have my boys watch this…..

  5. I just watched the Nightline tribute to Steve Jobs tonight and it brought me to tears. He was an amazing man and I don’t think we really thought about how much he changed our lives until his passing. We have two iPhones and two iPads.

As someone on the show said – he was our Da Vinci.

    RIP Mr.Jobs.

  6. It’s sad, I just heard the news about Steve Job’s death. I’m an Apple fan from the first hour and started with a Mac II as well, exchanging them every so many years for the latest ‘model’. I love my Powerbook, iMac and iPod. Mr Job and Apple changed the looks of our digital world.

  7. I switched on the news this morning mid story about Steve Jobs and was not sure for the first few seconds what had happened – but soon the sad news filtered into my mind….I sit typing this on my MacBook – my first home computer – my blogging pal…..design and technology in one tiny little package!

  8. Yes, a very sad day for us techno heads. My kids got their first Macs 8 years ago. Then we jumped on board with an iMac, iPods, iPhones and MacBooks. We are totally an Apple household and we have listened to many of Steve Jobs key note addresses. Truly a visionary, a man to be admired and affected so many lives.

  9. He was an amazing man. Thanks for sharing the videos, Anna. I’ve put the youtube one on my blog – linking to your blog so others can watch the Stanford Commencement one as well.

  10. I know, quite a shock. I almost bought the first mac! I didn’t though. I got an Apple IIGS. Just got rid of it a couple of years ago. I inherited my Dad’s Mac PowerBook. Wishing for an iPad. Amazing how much one life can touch so many. Truly an inspiration.

  11. Anna, that computer must have weighed A TON! Did you have to buy a seat for it on the flight home? ;0

It’s interesting how many people think of the business side of him and that loss. I think of his children. I wonder if he was ever home. Was he a good father and husband? He talked warmly about his parents. I hope his children will feel the same way about him. :)

  12. Forgot to mention…our first computer was an Apple IIc. Huge. Weighed a ton.

Just bought Hailey a Macbook Air for college. Compact. Light. Dreamy.

And the ipad…don’t get me started. Apple forever at my house.

  13. A sad passing. I don’t know that I’ve ever used an Apple but I do wish I had a program that would tell me how to keep my house clean. Like maybe a magic wand, or something :D

  14. this is a lovely tribute to a gentleman who shaped our current world. SJ’s has physically left this earth but, his presence surrounds us all each & every day.

  15. Excellent wordpress web site right here.. It is difficult to discover high quality creating like yours nowadays. I truly recognize folks like you! just take treatment

  16. That was a nice tribute, Anna. I remember reading a biography about Steve Jobs about 20 years ago, and the changes in his life since then are just amazing. I recently read that his mantra was, “Focus and Simplicity”, which I love.

I have never used a Mac and haven’t been terribly interested in Apple prodcuts until yesterday when I upgraded to an iPhone. The techology is mind blowing to me, who is used a cheap-o basic phone for the last decade.

  17. This is precisely the important information I’d been searching for. Incredible blog. Very inspirational! Your posts are so good and also detailed. The links you come with are also very beneficial as well. Many thanks :)
