Ouch!

Apparently, I need to go on a fabric diet.  Yikes!  When I went into the dungeon yesterday, this is what I found:

Fabric

All of my older fabrics were neatly stacked in an old 60’s style china closet.  It has glass-front doors and I love it because it protects the fabrics from dust.  It has faithfully served my fabric collection all these years, but apparently, the new folding method that I instituted a few years ago allows for more fabric per shelf, and the poor shelf finally caved in.  Sooo sad.  ;-(

Not much else going on around here.  I’ve been pre-shrinking my City Weekend fat quarter pack from market and neatly folding it.  Fortunately, I hadn’t planned on putting it in the china closet.

Fabric

And I’ve discovered the Dollar Tree.  Those stores have always been so crowded that they gave me a headache.  A new (cleaner) one recently opened up here so I ventured in.  That pretty cherry blossom soap was only a dollar.  I’ll definitely be going back — even if it’s just for the soap!

Have a good week.  Things will definitely be picking up here by the weekend, so I might actually have something to talk about.

XOXO,
Anna

  1. k. it’s me. i’m back. apparently i could have read the entire post… i just got all frantic when i saw that you had NO COMMENTS and had to post before you know who.
so, since you’re *prewashing* your city weekend… what do you have in mind, or are you just washing it for future use?
i don’t think i’ll be taking any photos of my fabric stash in the near future, but let’s just say that yours is a bit neater, fallen shelf and all.

  2. That is a fabulous photo and would make a fantastic greeting card for fabric aholics like myself, LOVE it, what a great cupboard too.

  3. What a lovely way to store your fabrics where you dont need to worry about the dust getting all over them. I have lots of fabrics too but have been trying to be good so I dont buy more but then I go and buy more yarn!

  4. well yes, either you go on a fabric diet or you buy a new cupboard. It’s as easy as that. Like when I don’t fit into my trousers anymore, I don’t go on a diet, I just buy new trousers…… you get the picture? (no, better don’t picture that one)!

  5. Oh no! You can always pass along some fabric my way… LOL! :) Broken shelf and all, it’s a great picture!

  6. OOOH, is it a glass shelf? Did it leave bits of glass in your fabric? I only ask because I dropped a bowl today on the counter and had to find lots of shards of ceramic everywhere!

  7. Ouch is right, thanks goodness I hide most of my fabric in containers, in cupboards with solid doors. That way the Man I live With (ok he is my husband but it sounds all Hollywood the other way, like Branglina) doesn’t actually know hoe much there is!

  8. it doesn’t look like a dungeon to me…
& your fabrics look so “perfect” in the cabinet…so i hope you can fix the shelf soon…
i have been cleaning out my freezer & frig…violent storm & power outage…need i say more.
    have a good week!

  9. You’re brave. I wouldn’t show pictures of my stash on my blog. I’d be way too embarrased. I wouldn’t want the world to know I have OCFD (Obsessive Compulsive Fabric Disorder)!

  10. I love that City Weekend.
I bought my sunglasses at dollar tree. $1. Perfect for someone who sits on them or loses them regularly. :)

  11. LOL! Your fabric is still pretty even when it’s crashed into a pile…

    Jennifer :)

PS: It still looks more organized than mine!

  12. My dear, your stash by most quilters comparison is svelte. A neat and trim buncha fabric, maybe outgrown some in the cabinet but still looks beautiful with no apparent fat (at least from my perspective!) The dollar stores are doing great in this economy. I’m never too good to dollar shop.

  13. i won’t judge yous, if you don’t judge mine. I have enough fabric to use the rest of my life, probably. I love your header – so cute

  14. Oh, what a nice stash, even if it is collapsed. I usually leave my fabrics out for awhile after coming home from The Bakery (my store). I want to look at them awhile.

  15. That’s a whole lotta fabric. Now I don’t feel quite so bad about all of the yarn in my stash! There is a dollar store around the corner from me and it’s kinda dirty and crowded. I do like their shampoo, which is kind of funny after many years of buying the expensive salon stuff.

  16. Ouch indeed! I tidied out my stash when I moved – but all that fabric looks yummy! If you need to lessen the load a little……

I love the new Freespirit fabric David Walker’s Boys will be Boys – got to love those puppy dogs and monkeys! Oh wait a minute – I am not supposed to be encouraging you to buy more…..

  17. Oops! :)

Love your City Weekend fabrics. I recently discovered the Dollar Tree, and now I buy reading glasses there. I have them all over the house, my office, my car.

  18. It’s a work of art, that fabric arrangement, or dearrangement. You could enter it for an art show – call it an installation and give it a name (“Collapse of the rainbow” or something) and sell it for £40,000.

There you are. Then you can buy more fabric with a clear conscience.

  19. Oh my goodness…….my fingers are just itching to get inside that cabinet and rearrange all that gorgeous fabric……I’ve never heard of the dollar store, but I suppose the equivilent in the UK would be the Pound Shop.

  20. Oh I hate when that happens, oh well it will give you a weekend project, just what you need LOL. I know you have been sewing for a long time but your fabrics look really current, did you part with your “old” fabrics? I have given a lot away but need to take the plunge and part with the rest of it. I always love getting a bargain! Happy weekend Anna!

  21. Is the Dollar Tree like Poundland here in the UK? I love Poundland (and I’m not ashamed to admit it, though many of my friends are). Ha! What do they know?

  22. That is some pretty fabric. And OH MY that looks like a little mess there for you to tend too. lol
It did look pretty for a while. :-)

  23. Ohhh Anna… that is severe damage!!!!!! :o)) You will need two of those cupboards..lol… Good luck with your mess.. think I will need to take a look into my shelves… just to prevent all this!!!

  24. Oh you can easy peasy fix your problem two ways..
    1. use more fabric and buy less…

    OR

    2. buy thicker wood for the shelves!

    I think I’d go for option 2!

    Lissa

  25. noooooooooooooooooooo it’s too neat! you obviously don’t have little children around to keep it that neat or maybe it’s just me (it’s probably just me)

I would love a fabric stash that neat, mine is big but all over the shop!

    Corrie:)

  26. this same thing is happening to me, only the shelves aren’t caving in, but the fabric stacks are just leaning towers. I need to go on a fabric diet too. Maybe that will translate over into the food realm too? Nah, probably not.
