It Pays To Whine

In December, when Scotland was getting so much snow, I was whiney ’cause we had piddly little dustings of snow.  Then in January, the East Coast got hammered and I was whiney some more.  Even the South was getting more snow that we had,  And now … we finally got some snow!!!  I LOVE it!  I’ve been having a great time playing with the snowblower this week — she’s my new best friend.  She can throw that snow all the way across the driveway — WooHoo!  {Insert Tim the Toolman Taylor Grunting.} (That’s BigDaddy’s driveway.)

Snowblower

I’m actually a little disappointed.  They’d predicted that we could have as much as 16″, but we weren’t that lucky.  Oh well, we’ll take what we can get.  The ugly tree is loving his new winter blanket too.  (Excuse the bright sun — I was just excited to be home before dark to take a few pictures!)

Tracks

We have lots of animal tracks out behind our house, so I took a few minutes to check them out.  I love seeing who’s come by to visit.  I’m not a track expert by any stretch, so I can only guess.  Any track experts out there?  I’m thinking maybe a squirrel here?

Tracks

And a bunny who drags his feet in the snow?

Tracks

These pretty tracks trailed off into the sunset.

Tracks

They’re deep and big and in groups of four. I’m guessing maybe deer here?

Tracks

And look at these cute little tracks.  See the shallow little “hand” print in the upper left?  As far as I know we don’t have any little monkeys out there.  A racoon maybe?

Tracks

I found Big Foot out there too.  Oh Wait.  That’s Me.

Tracks

Big Foot decided to come back in the house — it’s cold out there.  We’re supposed to get a few more inches this weekend.  Yipee!

Oh, and I wanted to show you a picture that I received from NoBlogJoyce.  She saw the Wedding Quilt last spring and decided to make one for her kids who are getting married in a few weeks.

Wedding Quilt

I LOVE it Joyce!  You did a fantastic job — it’s fun to see the quilt with some color in it too. And isn’t that a pretty monogram — I love the way the letters go together.  Thanks so much for letting me share your beautiful quilt, Joyce.  I hope the kids love it — and  Good Luck with the wedding!

Now…on to the weekend.  Have a great one!

XOXO,
Anna

you practically have a zoo in your backyard! (zoo opens april 23!!)
my dad has wild turkey in his backyard…do you see any tracks that look like turkey?

  2. Do you think that if I whine long enough we’ll get some snow here too??? I really want some as well ;). Enjoy it while it lasts.

  3. I’m SO happy you got your snow Anna. Happy especially that it went there and not here! Have fun with all your critter visitors…….

  4. Yay! The snow made it to you! Please feel free to keep it all and not return any down south.

That wedding quilt is beautiful. It’s so nice to see ideas shared.

  5. What is with all this snow?? lol Someone told me to stop wishing for it. lololol I cant help it.And I hear we’re getting more in the next couple days. It’s so pretty though. I can’t get enough.

  6. Enjoy your snow Anna!! We wish we were back in the snow – it is really hot summer this year.

Joyce’s quilt is awesome – it makes a great wedding gift!

  7. I’m so glad you finally got your snow :) If I could have, I would have shared some of ours. The quilt is beautiful, I’m sure they are going to love it. I know I would if I was getting it.

  8. Snow??? what is this snow stuffs??? *sigh* I would KILL for anything but HOT that we have here..
Day 6 of heatwave 41-46C this week, (um frigging hot, 105-115F) and no end in sight…

Please pray for a cool change for us!

I guess I shouldn’t complain, they’ve hadd floods up north and south, a Category 5 cyclone up far north and bushfires out west, so heatwaves are what a/c was invented for!

    PS I love the pics!!!

  9. Your snow looks lovely, I quite miss ours , we’ve got gale force winds and rain instead!! That is a gorgeous quilt , Anna the inspirationalist :-)

  10. Have lots of fun in the snow! I can tell you’re really enjoying it! I love the tracks…so fun to guess who’s been there.

  11. our snow is now ice & piled high… :(

thank you for sharing joyce’s beautiful wedding quilt…she had fabulous instruction & a great teacher! what a wonderful & cherished gift!

  12. Snow is so pretty, I enjoy it best when all of my family are off the roads and safe at home. Yes thank goodness for snow blowers, it saves the back for the soon to come “mulching season” lol. Love Joyce’s Quilt, every part of it turned out great!!

  13. very cool wedding quilt.
I love that you were disappointed in the low snow fall :)
it is fun to see the tracks. I like bird prints, they are so delicate.

  14. I don’t know any of the prints, sorry, but I agree with your raccoon analysis. I don’t think I was whining that we weren’t getting snow, except maybe on Christmas, but we are also getting some now. I’m alright with the snow, I know we need it, but I’m not alright with the below zero temps!!!

  15. I will gladly give you some snow, Anna. Just say the word and I will truck it to you. But it may all melt before it gets there. Joyce made a beautiful wedding quilt! I love the monogram!

  16. I like our snow when it’s fresh. The world looks so crisp and clean. I love seeing Otter-the-dog’s paw prints as he makes paths in the backyard. PS We have plenty of snow and I’ll share some with you.

  17. You’ve got quite a little parade of wildlife out there in your back yard! The snow looks so pretty, and I’m so glad you got it and not me. Our daughter Ru on the other hand is extremely disgruntled. She’s says the only thing that makes this kind of cold worth putting up with is SNOW!

And what a beautiful quilt you inspired. Perfection!

  18. My backyard looks remarkably like yours, animal tracks and all. :) Love the photo of the tiny hand print, that was a good find! :)

  19. thank goodness you’ve got the snow blower!

One of my sons is getting married next year, I think that maybe I need to start making him a quilt?!?

  20. hey … what happened to my message?!?

ahem … i was SAYING that i will check out Mr. Nutz’s footprints the next time i see him frolicking in the backyard … i can usually recognize Brer Rabbit, but i am much better at tracking poo than pawprints.

AND i said that it has snowed here for the past four days, although the accumulation was less than three inches cuz it was powder and then crud – till this evening’s snowfall of snowglobe snow … and there was graupel two weekends ago that was very interesting to look at, but not to drive in (yes, i DO end sentences with prepositions) … that is all.

  21. That snow is so beautiful, looks like you are enjoying it. Thanks for sharing the photo’s of the critter tracks. We’ve had unusually cold temps here, down to 28 degrees one night. I had to move my plants in pots under the porch and cover them up with blankets. Burrrr..

  22. Oh wow! I’ve never seen snow for real and your piccies are a delight to see, especially since we are sweltering through a very hot month of February! toni xxx

  23. Hooray for Joyce, great job. It looks like you enjoyed the snow and what fun to use the snow blower. You knew you had plenty of critters, there’s the proof.

  24. for real? you still want snow??? hmm…after 3 weeks of snow (read: mud, ice, and traffic chaos) i’m quite glad that we don’t have snow here anymore…i’m ready for spring for sure (well, at least some sun).
but then…YOUR snow looks so pretty and completely different from the snow we have here in the big city :)
    keep warm,
    julia

  25. Isn’t it funny how we can only be a few hours apart and have totally different winters. We’ve had the snowiest winter I can remember. We don’t get big dumps at one time, but we just keep getting hit. The kids are in heaven. We’ve definitely gotten our money’s worth out of those snow pants this year. I’m glad you got some too. Snow makes the winter bearable. If it’s gonna be cold, it might as well be snowing.

  26. That is still a really decent snow cover. We are due for a huge storm this afternoon; expecting at least a foot of snow. Commute to work tomorrow will be nasty and I am not looking forward to it. I love the monograms on the quilt what a neat idea.

  27. love that snow!
i like it better though, that i have to drive to the snow when i want it since i’m a big baby who doesn’t know how to drive in it, doesn’t own a coat and prefers walking on solid ground.
quite the gathering going on in your yard! sounds like a party for sure. there are a couple of little pieces of animal poop near my dog food in the back yard. i’ll send them to you so you can identify them. i’ve been wondering who’s trying to sneak into the dog food and now you’ll be able to tell me.
that makes me want to make a wedding quilt for my nephew and for my niece and her hubby. but, i won’t too many other things going on, like VALENTINE’S DAY AROUND THE CORNER!!!
wanna be my valentine anna banana?

  28. Hope you are still enjoying your snow:) I love it when it’s fresh but I confess that the novelty soon wears off once it starts getting grey from all the gritters and traffic going up and down and even more when it starts thawing a bit then freezing so that everywhere is like an ice rink!

  29. How lovely to have such diverse wildlife in your back garden – we have a city fox a squirrel and a ton of cats.

I do love Joyce’s quilt – I have never quilted and my fingers are itchy for it. But I have so many projects in my head at the moment my brain hurts. I’m trying finish a few at least before starting something new.

  30. Hi Anna, i saw it in the news, you have more snow in the US as you want. I hope you are doing fine and the weather is not to bad.
    Janine

  31. I like the footprints but I’m over this ice and snow…however this weekend has been spent in the house with sinus & bronchial problems. YUCK yuck yuck! And I’m leaving this state next Sunday to go on a “sisters” vacation – we are visiting our two sis’ that live in the Aloha state for 8 days! I hope I get rid of this dreadful cough by then or they might try to throw me off the plane. Hubby & puppy are staying home as winter vacas are usually for sisters only. I will miss them lots. (of course the two b-i-ls’ that live there are allowed to stay and hold on if they can. Ahhhh 80 degrees, sand, sun and …kleenex?
Take care of the snow in this state ms anna – you love it so. I might have to go to the museum and look at some Hawaiian quilts – such a wonderful spirit sewn lovingly into them. Take care girls, love ya, Rob

  32. Joyce’s quilt is so pretty, I love the colors. You sure get lots of visitors tracking by in the snow! How fun. I frequently check out the paw prints in the dirt behind my apartment building. It’s a good day when I see raccoon tracks :O)

  33. It looks like you’re really enjoying your snow Miss Thimble. I, on the other hand, would like spring to come. I even dreamed about it.

Love the animal prints in the snow.

    Jody

  34. I love this quilt & it put the biggest smile on my face. If you remember, I am your copycat friend & was going to make one exactly for my daughter’s wedding…am about finished & made some changes. Love the color & think I will copy that one instead :) As always-enjoy your blog sooo much. Stay warm! Frannie
