Thimbleanna

I Looked for Toto in My Backyard this Morning…

…but all I found were some shingles.   We had a LOT of rain and storms and WIND (with a tornado in the area.) Lots of wind. Remember my sad looking roof? I think we’re pushing that poor ol’ roof a little too hard — after the 70+ mph winds some of those poor ol’ shingles aren’t there anymore. Oops. We’re in the middle of getting new roof estimates — they just aren’t coming in as fast as the wind.  Pass the buckets, please.

So, anyway, there’s been more knitting around here.  I finished these socks a few weeks ago in record (for me) time.  Started on Monday and finished on Friday.  That will almost surely never happen again — it was a lucky week with lots of airport time.  Now I can be Melly’s twin — someday she’s going to take me on a Harley ride and we’re going to wear our matching socks, right, Melly?

Neapolitan Socks

I got this yarn at Cami’s the last time we were there.  It was sitting on top of a shelf in a tangled mess, but Melly’s socks were in progress, so I knew I had to have it.  While we sat and talked, I untangled it and then Sweet Blogless Rob put it on the ballwinder for me.  I don’t have a ball band, but Cami says it’s Trekking 126.  It was great to work with and I love the colors that scream neapolitan ice cream.  Although, what’s up with that icky lighter brown stripe there?  Don’t tell me that doesn’t remind you of diaper poop.  You know it does.

Neapolitan Socks

I would have been happier if they’d just left that poopy color out.  Oh well.  They still make me think of ice cream anyway.  Yum-m-m-m-y!  Put that on your grocery list this week for a few extra calories!

Neapolitan Socks

And speaking of extra calories, have you all seen the Happy Weight Calculator?  You can calculate your ideal weight, and oh boy {note of sarcasm} it says I don’t need to lose anything.  Gr-r-r-eat.  Translation:  I’ve reached an age where it’s acceptable to be portly.  Oh joy.  While I was there, I took the liberty of putting MyDadLovesMeBestSister’s stats into the calculator, and it says she needs to gain 20 lbs.  Even with the unhappy weight calculator (i.e. conventional wisdom) she needs to gain 10 lbs.  Now you know what I’m dealing with.  Can I have a little sympathy please?  I’m thinking about changing her name to SkinnyB*tch.

Neapolitan Socks

In the meantime, I’m having another bite of ice cream.  And I’ll console myself with the fact, that after I wear holes in these socks, they’ll make a matching ice cream cozy for neapolitan ice cream.

Have a Happy Week (I hope it has ice cream in it {wink}{wink})!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Yippee! I’m the first commenter! I’m a fellow Hoosier that found your blog in the fall and I love it!

  2. So you’re telling me that the older I get, the heavier I get to weigh? That means there are some advantages to getting older. Wow, all of a sudden I feel optimistic. haha.
I really like your socks and I was thinking Neapolitan ice cream, NOT diaper poop. Sheesh. Mittens in this yarn would look nice, too. We’re still wearing mittens here. Yes, I WILL stop complaining about the weather… when it warms up.

  3. Love the yummy socks Anna! They also remind me of Good and “Plenty” candies….or is it just all this talk about our plentiful girths? ;-)

  4. I scream, you’re a scream, we all scream for ice cream!
Delicious socks. Five days, huh? Maybe I COULD knit a pair….hmmmm.

  5. Happy Weight! Who are they kidding? Is it normal to weigh at 70 what you weighed at 20? After a passel of kids? And a husband who is in his 3rd or 4th childhood? At least.
    Please pass the ice cream!

  6. How can you think of poop and ice cream in the same post?? I dont get it. lolol It’s just not right. Love the socks though. Very cute and so you!

  7. Has Toto turned up after all the wind and rain? We’ve got that sort of weather here too. A pair of socks in a week, so far I’ve never attempted socks at all so I’m seriously impressed.

  8. How fab are they? I think you need a little poop in life to appreciate the good stuff.
And I am a happy weight so 3 scoops for me please!

  9. love the socks…perhaps not the brown!

oops that weight calculator tells me I need to lose 2 more kilograms!!!!! no ice cream for me!

    Corrie:)

  10. I love the socks and the fact that you can have ice cream to match!! As a child with neopolitan ice cream I used to mess it all up in the bowl till it all looked like the poopy colour!!

  11. Now that you mention it……………….yup, that colour definitely reminds me of baby poop!

Great socks though – and I love them as an ice-cream cosy!

You really are quite mad Anna – and I love you for it!!!

  12. I made me a pair of socks using this yarn in January! The girls both want a pair and said they looked like the Brach’s candy. I like to think of the “poopy” color as caramel! We’ll have to wear them at the same time if we ever get a chance to see each other! Hugs!

  13. I have never knit adult socks…I should..but that would cut into my sewing time LOL. I have knit booties..dang lately I have been getting the itch to pull out an old knitting WIP and finish. You are definitely tempting me here. Luckily we have a LONG trip to SC and FL over Easter..with lots of ‘riding’ so that I can work on hand stitching projects. Oh what will I chose to work on? hey that sounds like a good blog post…

  14. I’d call that caramel, though now I may never be able to eat caramel again.

Oh, and that horrible calculator told me I had lots of weight to lose, which is probably understandable. It did tell me my happy weight was the one I’ve been aiming for though, so at least I know I’m being realistic (snort).

    Pass the ice cream!

  15. I am obviously extra happy (5 kg over my happy weight) – sadly no neopolitan ice cream for me today. Love the socks – especially with their dual purpose as sundae cosies.

  16. Anna, Your socks just amaze me. They are beautiful. I wish I could knit like that. Also, I wanted to ask you how would be the best way to learn how to make the solder pendants you make. Where do you get the notes and the pictures. I LOVE the cupcake one. It looks like it would be fun. You sound like you have some good genes too!!!

  17. I was just thinking of how lovely those socks were till you mentioned the poop and yes, it is scarily like the colour …
However, the photo of the ice cream has redressed the balance and I am back in love with the socks.
    Kimx
    Hope Toto is okay ….

  18. Love the socks. Oh, the poop colors not that bad…they also remind me of a candy that I can’t seem to remember the name of right now…Oh no, it’s that secret word again hitting me, when you hit that certain age and your mind just goes.
The Happy Weight Calculator…I’m glad it’s happy (lol).

  19. Super cute socks, even with the poopy color! And yes, an ice cream cozy is a must!

Funny, spell check doesn’t recognize the word “poopy”! :)

  20. Love the socks! And yeah, I’m not so sure about that Happy Weight calculator. I think it should be called Happy Overweight calculator.

  21. We’re on the same wave length. I’ve been working on a little sock zebra for one of the girls. The colors remind me of Neopolitan ice cream. It’s all I can think of while I work on the dang thing. In fact, I’ve decided to name her Polly. You know, for Neo-polly-ton. She’ll make her blog debut soon.

As for the name change for your sister…She might not like it, but I do have to say that it’s funny. Very funny! You crack me up. Thanks, Anna.

  22. I thought of that old fashioned candy when I saw them but now I will never think of Neapolitan ice cream (let alone eat it) again wihout thinking poopy diaper. You are a scream, Anna!

  23. lovely socks. i’m STILL going to learn to knit socks when i grow up. when i was a child, and had to go to whitney waite’s birthday part – after the pizza, i was forced to eat neapolitan ice cream by her dictator of a father, an then in the MORNING, he made me eat MAPLE SYRUP on my pancakes, when i was used to homemade blackberry syrup! i politely asked for jelly or jam, but NOOOO, “you will eat what is given you and nothing else”. he died an umtimely death. well, i don’t know if he did or not, but one can always fantasize….

  24. I bet you look great. We are always harder on ourselves. I like the socks especially with the ice cream. LOL….baby poop…yuck. Love the pinks and dark brown though.

  25. Love the socks!! I have a skein of that just waiting to be knit up – it’s one I like so much, I almost don’t want to knit it up, if that makes any sense. And Mon-Fri for a pair, WOW. My current record is eleven days. Forget the Happy Weight Calculator – my new wii fit tells me I’m overweight and unbalanced. sheesh.

  26. Hi Anna – I’m so sorry it’s taken me an age to get over here to thank you for dropping by my blog and taking the time to comment. Now I’ve got here, it’s taken me ages to comment because you have so much yummy stuff here! Seriously good blog, I’m so glad I ‘found’ you.

Love those socks – I don’t even mind the baby poop colour – it makes the other colours stand out more.

    Take care :-)

  27. Neopolitan socks! I love it. We are pushing the limits on our roof. IT is only 14 years old but it was bad right after they put it on 14 years ago. Darn construction people!

  28. Oh, goodness. According to that site I am 10 pounds overweight. And I just got the amazing KitchenAid mixer ice cream maker attachment — so that 10 pounds isn’t going anywhere!

  29. Hope you’re able to get the roof taken care of sooner rather than later!
Those socks are really cool! THat is some amazing knitting skills you’ve got going on there! I’m impressed! :)

  30. and more bags are on order… it is color #126, and I am SO proud you followed the opposite-stripe plan. Sock-love means never having to kit the SAME SOCK twice! It makes the second sock fresh and exciting, too… the hamster in my head finds the change in the color repeats enchanting when they are “backwards” from the previous sock. I love them. I may have to cst mine on now. I’m SUCH a damn joiner! *gah* C

  31. Anna, The soldering looks pretty complicated. Have you ever thought of selling some on Etsy. I think you would do very well, along with a lost of other works of art……

  32. Ooh lovely ice creamy socks – and I think the baby poop stripe is actually toffee sauce :-)

According to Happy Weight I’m at an unHappy Weight – although I already knew that – may have to console myself with some ice cream!

    xxx

  33. I scream, you scream, we all scream for diaper poop? OMC… it DOES look like… like… like… the “c” in OMC!

Love the socks with the ice cream and that other topping you added. How stinkin’ cute! Stinkin’ – as in non diaper poop smelling.

I tried the happy-weigh calc. Though there wasn’t a “never” pick for “How often do you exercise and weight train?”. For some reason I get the feeling walking to my mailbox counts as exercise.

  34. I love self-striping yarn, but not when it has weird colors in it….either than that I love those socks…and they do remind me of Neapolitan ice cream!

  35. I love the very technical labelling in your sock pic. Yes, this is the conical flask, this is the bunsen burner, this is the…’poop colour’! Round these here parts that kind of ice cream is called neopolitan – in the seventies (when I was a tot) it was a very glamorous dessert – a stripe of strawb, choc and vanilla all in the same box. None of the stripes had actually come into contact with real choc or strawb at all, and certainly not a vanilla pod! It was as exotic as arctic roll though. Almost like space food!!

  36. Oh what a cloth brain – you knew it was neopolitan. Sheesh, I’ve had 5 hours sleep and have children climbing all over me – sorry!

  37. Hi Sweet Anna,
Your socks are so pretty, and they go great with ice cream. I made Jewels Lemon dessert and everyone loved it. If you want sneak a little weight on your sister just give her a slice of that dessert every time she comes over, it worked for me. I had to stay away from it and it was hard!!

  38. I love your socks and I do not love that calculator.

This makes me feel like I should try my hand at sock yarn again – those results do not lie – so cute!

  39. I had a little lemon gelato tonight. Does that count?

I love your socks. They remind me of those strange candies in the grocery store bins, that are layered colors like that. I think they’re made by Brach’s and are sort of coconutty.

Hope you have a nice weekend!

  40. Let’s pretend it’s caramel sauce – far better visual than poop.
Will I ever be able to knit poopy, I mean caramelly, socks like that? I think when I get good I will make a whole range of food-inspired socks – peas and carrots, PB&J on whole wheat, strawberry cheesecake. Oh, my gosh – where’re my needles?

  41. Sorry Anna, but you can’t have neapolitan ice cream without the poopy color. It makes the world go round. Your new socks are almost making me want to want to……

  42. Your photos are GREAT!! Love them. I grew up with Neopolitan icecream… the colors of the socks. Fond memories! So, do I love your socks??? YES I DOOOOOOOO!!!
    Hugs,
    Joni

  43. We call that color “calf scours.” Yes, it’s a poopy color and I don’t care much fer it either. But I do like the Neopolitan Ice Cream colors. Why did they add that calf scours color anyway? My Neopolitan ice cream only has chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. Period.

    Cute socks.
    Jody

  44. You are too funny! I was just going to comment about what terrific socks those were until you described the brown stripe as diaper poop! I can’t see them in the same way now.

  45. Sorry about your roof! Yikes – I volunteer to be part of the bucket brigade. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that….
Adorable socks, baby poop color and all. I’m in the mood for some “poopy” Neopolitan ice cream now.
