Happy Birthday Big Boy!

Birthday BoyToday is TheFirstChild’s birthday! Here he is looking suspiciously like his younger brother. He loved his little bear whose name was Bear. TheFirstChild took Bear with him everywhere. He’s the reason we have 2 yr. old pictures with bears in our family. We wanted to remember Bear forever. It’s a good thing we have this picture, because about a year after it was taken, Bear was lost on an outing.

But, back to the birthday. Hard to imagine it’s been 23 years since my little cherub was born. I’m totally stealing and paraphrasing a fabulous quote from the VERY funny Camillaknits. “That was 17 hours of labor put to good use.” TheFirstChild came into the world with big, wide, blinking eyes, and he’s still wide-eyed, soaking up what the world has to give him. He’s been a great kid and a hard worker (well, unless you count his incredibly messy room.) This, his 24th year, will be a very big one, with a wedding in May. It might be bigger for me … I’ll have to give him up to SweetiePie. I don’t know if I’ll be able to bear it. {Sniff}{Sniff} (Excuse me while I blow my nose.)

Well, I’ll spare you the gushing over my baby. Suffice it to say, I could go on and on … he’ll always be my little sweetie. Thanks for a wonderful 23 years Big Boy — I hope you’re having a great day!

Now, I’m off to make another attempt at reading some of your blogs. I haven’t been very successful the last two days — you’re writing faster than I can read! Don’t you people ever sleep???

XOXO,
Anna

P.S.  Thanks so much for all your wonderful comments about my trip and pillowcases.  You’re all SO very sweet and kind!!!

  1. Your son is so adorable. I love the bear. I wish him a happy birthday and a wonderful life as a new husband next Spring. My youngest is getting married then, too.

Happy birthday, Big Boy! :) Today is The Hubby’s birthday, too, so it’s a great day to be born. :)

  3. He was such an adorable 2!!! And I’m sure he’s just as adorable at 24.

My son just turned 2 last week. Your post reminds me of how quickly time passes, and of how I should cherish every minute!!!!

  4. what a gorgeous photo. My 6 year old still has his bear, PB. I have had to make all clothes, pjs, blankets hats, and bags for him. This special time when they are young is so precious and goes way too quickly. I am sure you will do a good job of being a motherinlaw!!!
Hope he has a wonderful birthday (I had been married over two years by the time I was that age). Aaaahh!!

  5. Happy Birthday to your son. What a sweet blog post!

Question-where in Utah did you go? That sure looks like the Manti temple. We have friends in that Sanpete valley. I also had an ancestor from Wales…a tiny little town near Fountain Green.

    …Just wondering.

  6. Awww, your boy’s so cute! You better pass on to him that we’re all adoring his two-year-old self. And did those 24 years fly? If this is the photo you always have in your mind when you think about him, he’ll be very hard to give away indeed.

  7. Anna – what a beautiful post! Love the photo – so cute!! You brought tears to my eyes talking about your son – I understand so well everything you’re feeling. Even though my son has been married for almost 10 years (yikes!), I still miss that little boy that I watched grow up into a very tall (6’5″), funny, loving individual.
Thanks for bringing back to me all those memories!

  8. Wow Anna – it was my firstchild’s birthday on 23rd August too! She was 10! Which is a really big age to be (although maybe not as big as 23!) Just got back from Italy a couple of hours ago so having a quick look at favourite blogs (really should be giving the children some supper). Happy birthday to your firstchild too! Lucy
