Friday Five

Haha — it’s not Friday, but I have five things anyway.  Sunday Five just doesn’t have that zing to it.  ;-D

1.  I’m feeling a little sad about taking the last stitch in The Aunts’ Quilt this month.  This has been such a fun project.  The 15th will be our last reporting day — the year sure went by quickly!

2.  I finally spent part of my Christmas Amazon gift card.  I just haven’t seen many books this year that floated my boat.  I love the City Walks London cards and I’m hoping I’ll be lucky enough to have future trips where I can try some of them out.  If not, they’re really fun to read.  Great Cookies is a Great book.  ;-P  It looks like there are some really good recipes in it.  I had to buy a used copy because there weren’t any new ones available — it doesn’t matter, the recipes are all the same.  And I haven’t had time to look at Red & White Quilts yet, but I’m really looking forward to it.

3.  New knitting project!  New projects are always so fun — hopefully this one won’t take so long that it’s not fun anymore. ;-D

4.  This will be my last year for a big zinnia patch.  For the last several years, I’ve planted zinnias, zucchini and tomatoes, but the zucchini and tomatoes just never do well.  So, inspired by my visit to Scotland and Pam’s beautiful garden, I’m going to see if I can do any better with perennials.  I’ll leave a little space for a few zinnias, but there won’t be a great number of them.

5.  I’ll leave you with this little gem from facebook.  Oh, to have the opportunity to execute such a plan LOL!

Have a Great Week!

  1. You tricked me into thinking it was Friday for a moment. I’ve got my copy of Infinite Variety but I’ve put it away until my bithday next month, I wonder if I’ll be able to wait that long. Have fun planning your garden of beautiful perennials. That little story at the end is so funny.

  2. I Love that prank – funny but not unkind. I got my copy of the Infinite Variety but I’m keeping it sealed until Christmas – it’s tough because I see it on my husbands shelf in the closet.
I can’t believe the Aunts Quilt has been going for a year – that was fast! Looking forward to seeing it compete.
Happy Wednesday – I mean monday

  3. I can’t recommend any great books at the moment; I’ve read two or three this year that started out lovely and then took a twist. Well, there is the Happiness Project. If you haven’t read that, I would recommend it!!
I’ve seen a few huge zinnia patches in my neighborhood but did not have a lot of success the one or two times I’ve tried to grow them. Maybe next year I will. What perennials are you thinking of??

  4. I’m still sitting here laughing about #5! Brilliant, and so funny. And I also love 1-4. The aunts quilt is amazing. I can’t wait for a completed picture. Your work is impeccable. Perfection! I could look at it over and over again. Is that a new sweater you started? I have to look at your book choices-especially the cookie one. And the Red and White quilts book. I’ve already used up my Amazon gift card for this year. My favorite all time gift. Enjoy the rest of our beautiful fall weather! It’s so gorgeous but looks like it will be frost by next weekend. And thanks for the great start to a new week!

  5. Love that about the Exorcist book! I could see me doing that! Good luck on the perennials. Some I can grow, and others not so much. Zinnia is my favorite summer flower. Mine are just blooming. For some reason can’t grow them either. Tomatoes, now there is the same story. My cherry ones have not ripen yet at all, see what time of the year? My regular size,, out of 4 plants, I have gotten a total of 6, plus the critters ate 2. Sad. My house backyard faces the west, and I should be planting the vegetables on the south. Oh the green pepper plant, the only one was the small one from when I bought it in the spring. Maybe this would be a good story for my blog!! Have a super great week.

  6. The Exorcist story is cruel but soooo funny! Love all your pictures today…such pretty knitting and zinnias. I have the red and white quilt book on pre order and am very excited for it to arrive :)
    Happy new week.

  7. The quilt is impressive, the books interesting, the new project exciting (as all projects are in the first flush of their youth,) the zinnias are colourful but the best of the five is #5 —- priceless!

  8. My zinnias didn’t come on very well until September! Yours look great!.
Your quilt is going to be so wonderful.

  9. I got the red and white book too! We are doing a short road trip next week do I am thinking about tucking it in the car for hotel nights. Looking forward to getting a look at Aunts quilt all completed…one of us has to have completed a big project….and it sure wasn’t me. But lots of grandkid time so I am not really complaining!

  10. Have enjoyed reading and well..mostly looking at all your gorgeous pictures from your trips…lots of adventure there… A precious memory!
Your Auntie quilt is also coming along very nice..can’t wait to see it in full bloom!!!

  11. I love every one of those Five! Can’t wait to see the finished knitting project!
Ugh, there I go with the exclamation overuse again. Forgive me.

  12. I knew I should have made this quilt, but w/4 new grandbabies I didn’t think I could get it done. It is really beautiful and I admire your work and color choices. Amazing quilt Annie…..

  13. Oh my gosh your closing ditty made me laugh out loud – I of course had to read it to Mr. Farmhouse – he laughed out loud as well. Wouldn’t that be fun LOL.
