Five on Friday

1. Happy Birthday to TheFirstChild! I’m so excited because the boys and SweetiePie will all be home this weekend — the first time since Christmas. It’s fun that TheFirstChild is coming home on his actual birthday — it means the inagural run of the Happy Birthday pillowcases!

2. I was cleaning the bathroom that the kids use and discovered a severe shortage of bath towels. They even had bathtowels with their names on them and not a one was to be found. How do towels with names on them just disappear? Does the dryer eat them along with socks??? So, now we have new towels — and we’ll try names on them again in hopes that they’ll stay where they belong. ;-8

3. I’ve been noticing a few recipes on food blogs for overnight oatmeal. After receiving high praise from The Brigitte, I decided to give this recipe a try. It was wonderful! I think it would be perfect with a little sprinkling of walnuts or almonds too.

4. I ordered some stained glass stars from Piggy and Dirt for gifts. I can’t show you what’s in the center of the stars because they’re for gifts, but I Love them. I even ordered one of them with a picture in the middle of it and I’m really happy with it.

5. I’ve been busy stocking up my little shop with some of the fabrics that were used in the Aunt’s Quilt which I’m planning on starting this fall. In the process, I’ve restocked the famous Red Pepper Quilt binding stripe, the Better Buddy Case, and those perfect Little House pins.

Have a great weekend!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. We always make overnight oatmeal when we have company, and your recipe looks like one I need to try…YUM!! Happy Birthday to TheFirstChild!

  2. Yay!!! The kids are coming home! What a great weekend you’ll have! I can’t wait to see the update. Lots of fun for everyone. And thanks for trying and recommending the oatmeal. I’ve been intrigued with it but have not tried it yet. I will tomorrowl it looks great. Have an amazing weekend!!!

  3. Have a great weekend with your family! And a Happy Birthday to the First Child!

(Great minds think alike! I cut fabric for some embroidered pillowcases today too!)

  4. Your “overnight oatmeal” sounds very much like our traditional Swiss Birchermuesli. Only I always grate an apple into it as it makes it very fresh and moist. I also squeeze a bit of lemon or even orange juice into it and sometimes add some either ground or chopped nuts. Yummy! And I make much more as the family loves it too and it keeps in the fridge for days. Happy Birthday to the first child and enjoy the festivities.

  5. Have a great weekend with the birthday boy and all the rest of your family, Anna. I would suspect that, since the towels had names on them, the people with those names might have purloined them for their own bathrooms. Or, even sneakier, they might have each purloined the other’s so that they could honestly say they hadn’t taken the one with their own name on it! :oD

  6. happy birthday to the FirstBornSon … and, on a side note, you have MADE MY DAY!!! that oatmeal is not a pretty site and, after reading the recipe, this is the FIRST TIME since i’ve started reading your blog that i haven’t wanted to try something out for myself – ha ha ha!!! i lurve my (hot) oatmeal, but it isn’t a pretty picture even when i’m really hungry … i do think it is odd that the best things to eat usually look like they already have been … bwah ha ha ha ha!!!

    have the BEST WEEKEND EVER!!!

  7. Happy Happy Happy Birthday to the Firstson – I hope the weekend was wonderful with all of your duckies under one roof and a reason to celebrate. Of course love the pillowcases – great idea. How come the towels you don’t like never disappear lol – it’s always the good ones. I must confess I’m very behind in reading blogs this summer – but I’m glad I popped in for this one. Not a huge fan of oatmeal so I’ll take your word on this one being good. Hope your summer has been lovely – can yo believe we are staring right down the road to Labor Day – dang – ready or not here comes fall.

  8. Hi Anna, I hope you had a fabulous weekend with the family! When I saw the cold oatmeal, my first reaction was yeuch – come on, I’m Scottish, it has to be hot porridge! However, having looked at the recipe I might give it a try ……

love the look of those stained glass stars are the ornaments or sun catchers? very cool.
that little red case is the cutest thing ever!

  10. Oh, you have a fun little shop. I Favorited it :) I would not be surprised if a towel with my name on it sneaked into my luggage when I was leaving such a swanky B&B!

  11. Happy Birthday to the first child, birthday pillowcase is just the best way to add fun to the celebration! That oatmeal looks so tasty and you’ve got me wondering what is in the center of the stars. I wish my towels would disappear, I really want to get some new exciting colourful ones but somehow my cupboard of towels seems to be growing.

  12. The more you can reduce the damage caused by free radicals with antioxidants, the more
your can reduce or even prevent damage. When our body p –
H ( becomes more and more acidic it starts to set up defense
mechanisms to keep the damaging acid from entering our vital organs.
