Fall Market Report: The Fabric

It’s time for my last market report (do I hear a heavy sigh of relief?)  I don’t usually get to ogle much over the new fabric at market, but I did note a few fun new things coming up.  First and foremost, one of my very favorite lines will have a new run — it’s third!  First there was the little hammer girl, then the knitting ladies, and now (are you guessing?)……{gasp!}……a PREGNANT Ghastlie!!! Yes, oh yes, there will be more Ghastlies! Can you see the little mother-to-be and her baby carriage???

Fabric

Do you think it would be too creepy to give an expectant mother a diaper bag or something made from the Ghastlies LOL??? I LOVE them. (And speaking of the Ghastlies, if you’re a Ghastlie lover and you missed the Ghastlie blog hop, you should go check out all the cool things made with Ghastlie fabrics.)  This new Ghastlie fabric won’t be out until May 2012, but I couldn’t stand it and I ordered some of this new print on.the.spot!

Moving right along, I thought you might like to see The Cat in the Hat who made an appearance at market this year.  He was hanging out in the Shannon Fabrics booth — they make plushy-cuddly-minkie-like fabrics — and tons of them.  They had a huge booth this year — that plushy stuff is getting sophisticated.  Anyway, the Cat in the Hat prints are coming in cuddly fabrics in the spring.

Fabric

Now for the goodies that I bought at market.  I behaved myself this year.  My number one favorite is Reunion.  I LOVE it.  My all-time favorite Sweetwater line was Make Life, but Reunion is giving it a run for it’s money.  I’m planning on mixing it with some Circa 1934 to make some pillows, etc. for our family room.

Fabric

I also grabbed some Flower Sugar.  They’ve added gray to the line this year.  I’ve always been more of a tan sort of person, but it’s growing on me.

Fabric

And the last pack I bought was Anna Griffin’s Isabelle Christmas line.  I loved it when we saw it in Houston last year, so when they were across from us at Sample Spree this year I had to grab a bundle.

Fabric

Not too much damage — which is good, I have way too much fabric as it is.  There was one other minor little indiscretion.  On the last morning of market, Kathy found a fun thimble booth just around the corner from us.  We abandoned Kellie  for a few minutes and went to check them out.  They had a bunch of these thimbles without the top of the finger.  I never really thought I’d like them, but they are SOOO comfortable, I couldn’t help myself.  As you know, I love my thimbles.  And I can’t sew without one.  When I saw one with a bee, it was hopeless to resist.

Thimble

Here it is from the side view.  Kathy bought a similar thimble  — we decided it’s like buying friendship rings.  Friendship thimbles.  We’re bonded now!

Thimble

So, that’s it for market reports for this year. It whizzes by and I’m always left standing there thinking … What the *(&* happened??? I sure wish I knew how to slow time down!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Anna, Love the new fabrics. Can’t wait to see what you make with them. You were a good girl!!!
I have an open ended thimble and it is the only one I use. I bought it at the Roxanne both in the early 90’s in Houston and I know you will love yours. I am very envious of the bee!!! While I love mine, it is not nearly as pretty as yours.

  2. NEW GHASTLIES?!? Be still my heart. I haven’t even cut into the other Ghastlies I have (from the first two lines). I might have to put the quilt on hold until May so I can add some of the stuff!

All your goodies are wonderful. I love the Isabelle fabric. And I never thought of you as “tan” kind of girl. It seems a bit boring, which you certainly are not!

Thimbleanna got a new thimble. Well, that is certainly appropriate. :)

  3. Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, I want, I want, I want… it all! LOVE the Reunion, Flower Sugar, and Anna Griffin, BUT love, love, love that thimble – want one I do. Love a good thimble and that bee one is just the ant’s pants!! Can you remember the name of the store? Thanks Anna. Top of the class for your Market Reporting!! (oh, such a cute bee thimble….)

  4. Ack…. I have the same thimble and I love it sooooo much, I think you will too Anna! Love all your fabric, I’m sure it was hard to resist not buying more!!

  5. It is only fitting that you came home with a thimble! I have a Roxanne thimble and I adore it and use it all the time.

Looks like there are some yummy fabrics on the way! oh help me now!! :o)

  6. How did I miss that Christmas fabric?! That’s right… I was distracted!

I have one of the Thimblelady’s thimbles that fits like a GLOVE. I use it almost daily. It is my best festival purchase EVER even 8 years later!

  7. I’m a big Sweetwater fan too! Love Reunion but have been avoiding a purchase since I’ve put myself on a fabric diet! But I am headed to the quilt shop today to look at Christmas fabrics. I’ll look for Isabelle!

    (love the thimble turkey:) )

  8. I CAN”T wait for the new Ghastlies yippe! love your thimble too. Looks like you had a blast. xoxo

  9. A Ghastlies diaper bag?? Hmm that would be intersting ;-) Oh you must have wanted to blow soo much money there. So much tempation!! Clarice

  10. oh good grief, a pregnant Ghastlie. that takes the cake!
i like your new banner…i think i recognize the polka dots…and of course, regret not buying them too!

  11. I love your Market reports. Don’t ever stop. And your fabric purchases look wonderful. I like the thimble, too. I’ve never seen one like it. By the way, your header is perfect – fall colors and thimbler turkey!

  12. I love your new thimble, but can we talk about this pregnant ghastly for a minute? Either she is having babies super close together, or she just had that baby a couple of days earlier and is no longer preggo. Either way, I am happy to no longer be in either of those positions!
Thanks for the great market updates!

  13. Your market posts are killing me! Let’s make a date this year to hang out a bit – even if it’s just and early breakfast — or I’ll help you set up and we’ll share a muffin! ;)

    Also, that header? Pure awesome!

  14. Hey Thimble Sister!! Made it home in one piece LOL!
Told you you wouldn’t regret the Thimble Purchase! I absolutely LOVE my dragonfly and shes waiting in my sewing room for me to start something with all the authentic 1930’s scraps I managed to buy on Preview Night! $1 a piece-U guys don’t know how lucky u are!! ;) xx

  15. Thanks for the heads up! Yea, that’s on my next order! Love, love, love the Ghastlies! They flew out the door at the Shoppe. Oh and the Cat and the Hat…. my favourite. Given that I’m an adult quilt Shoppe (sounds funny doesn’t it but we have no kids fabrics ;) I will support my favourite other quilt shops! ;o) I do like that thimble! Cute!

  16. Nice fabrics! But I love your bee thimble, and in sterling no less!. Have you tried it? Does it work?
    PS:What a cute header, again ;).

  17. I missed the whole stinking Lecein booth at sample spree! There was so much going on and so many people I just could not focus on things. Plus, I was looking for the Don’t Look Now table. :) I didn’t buy much either. Good thing, ’cause what I collected in paper alone nearly did me in!
Love the Ghastlies! I almost bought some at a quilt shop we visited but I changed my mind. I’m so indecisive. That bee thimble is just gorgeous! Maybe if I had one I would sew more. Oh, wait- probably not.
    Have a super weekend, Anna!

  18. I love the sugar fabric- it really is so pretty and fun- It reminds me of summer.
Your thimble is fabulous- I don’t like the feel of a thimble on my fingers- can you tell that I am not a hand quilter. I have big hands and just never found any that felt comfortable.
    Regards,
    Anna

  19. oh anna.
so when i went to market, i bought the SAME THIMBLE!!! i *put it somewhere* but we are totally thimble twins, separated at birth. this should make you terribly happy since i’m younger than you are and now we get to be the same age.
heading off to tahoe this weekend.
welcome home, again, we missed you terribly.
    :waves madly

  20. That thimble is very cute indeed!

Also… the Ghastlies! Oh my! I cannot wait. I actually just ordered more a couple of the current prints (Sebastian in natural and smoke, the outdoor print in smoke) to use in the back of my Ghastlies version of Jaybird Quilts’ Taffy quilt.

I’m glad to hear that they’ll be back again next year, and with new additions!

  21. I waited for you to pick me up on your way to market — what happened? :-) Love all your new goodies. It must be hard to behave in a place like that. I’m impressed.

  22. Nancy and I bought new thimbles too. We got one last year in Houston. I love them. So so pretty and yes they could be your friendship ring. :)

  23. Oh do I love that bee thimble. I’ve never seen an open thimble before. Looks like you got some nice goodies and I’m looking forward to seeing what you will whip up with them.

Jody (who loves the turkey banner)

  24. Hi Anna, thanks for visiting :) I am very slowly going to get back into blogging. I still have another week of school and my new job will be crazy!!!! I am taking a management position so it will be busy and stressful but also very exciting and challenging. Hugs.

  25. COOL thimble! And more Ghastlies! I’m sorry I never collected any of the line from the beginning. The pregnant one cracked me up.

  26. I’ve been using that type of thimble for years and you’ll love it!!
    Is it TJ Lane?
I have a tatoo on my right foot that looks like the same bee
so I have huge thimble envy
    xx

  27. Love the twine. Love the thimble (to die for). Love the gray flower sugar. I want it. And I forgot to say how cute your fabric looked in the cubby.
