Commercials

Ok, so let’s not talk about that Superbowl, ok???  Really, I don’t care who wins or loses.  And I am happy for all the Saints fans!  Besides, everyone knows that you watch the Superbowl for the commercials, right?  I wasn’t exactly bowled (sorry) over by those commercials this year.  There were a few good ones, but they don’t stand up to some of my favorites.

I’ve mentioned before, this is my all time favorite commercial:

My second favorite ever commercial is an old McDonald’s commercial that I couldn’t find on YouTube.  It features a young father and his little boy enjoying a meal at McDonald’s because Mom is in the hospital, having just had a new baby.  It always brought a tear to my eye when I saw it.  Does anyone remember that one?  McDonalds had some great commercials back in the 70’s and 80’s.

And this gem, is my new current favorite — whenever it comes on, I stop whatever I’m doing and watch it all the way through.  It just makes me super happy:

Miss Jean blogged about this commercial about a month ago.  She has a fantastic smiley face and you should run over there and take a peek at it — it will make you laugh, especially if you have a sewing machine.  Now, I find myself looking for smileys everywhere.  Here’s one in one of our bathrooms, much like in the commercial.

Smileys

One I provided the smile for, and a tongue sticking out in the laundry room (it holds the odd change I find in pockets).

Smileys Smileys

This little guy isn’t exactly smiling, but he’s kind of funny.

Smileys

And this one is my favorite find.  Can you tell what he is?  I see him everyday in the ladies room at work (sneaky guy).  Can’t beat that pinocchio nose!

Smileys

Do you have any fun smileys at your house???

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Oh My goodness, Anna, you crack me up. Who’d have thought? Now you’ll have us all looking for smiles, or we may not even have to look, they’ll just be jumping out at us, creepying us out…I love yours. I think I have one here on my computer tower…

  2. Hmmmmm. I am going to have to start looking for faces.
I liked the follow up to the Rice Krispies where the little girl is explaining it to someone… “and then you come out and say, ‘They’re finally done.’ And then you get taken out to dinner.”

And I do remember the McDonald’s commercial!

  3. i’m the only one smiling in my house.
i’m cracking up at your purple sock in your laundry room.
i have a glass jar in the cupboard above my washing machine.
    it’s my TIP JAR.
if the kids forget to take money out of their pockets, i assume they are tipping me for doing their laundry and i put it into the tip jar.
they’ve decoded my sinister ways and will now go to the tip jar in search of lost money of theirs (or a sibling’s money!) – so i don’t get to keep the tips too often, but we laugh about it anyway.
i’ll go in search of smileys in my house.

  4. Funny commercial. I’ve always liked that one too. I’m afraid I don’t remember the McDonalds one, but it sounds cute. I was a little disappointed in the Superbowl commercials too although the Dodge one with the husband in a trance, saying, ” will be civil to my wife’s friends, I will put the toilet seat down…” was pretty funny.

I went to a quilt shop this weekend. I can feel myself getting drawn in big time. Somehow I didn’t buy anything, but only because I have a gazillion knitting projects going on right now.

  5. I am soooo not a sports person, but after seeing your wonderful Cupcakes, I had to check the result of the Game. Sorry for your Loss! LOL.
I will now have to check my house for Smileys.
    Cute post Anna!
And for once, I am not late to the party!! woo hoo!!

  6. I giggled at the Rice Krispies ad – I can manage to get flour on my face without doing it deliberately! LOL

The American Express ad made me smile. I think I’d watch it over and over again if it was on here. :o)

Your smiles made me smile too. I’m going to see if I have any in my house. I’d need to polish the bath taps first though! :oD

  7. Am loving those smiles.

For a really interesting debate about the superbowl commercials this year head over to the Women’s Colony and check out The Salon. Wooooooheee! You might need to hold onto your hat!

  8. You inspired my children to go wandering round the house looking for smileys – which was very cute but they were supposed to be getting ready for school!

  9. Cute smileys Anna, is he the hook on the back of the door? I made four dollar bills during my last laundry round, love it when I find those, it doesn’t happen very often though… forgetful 18 year old son helps.

  10. I LOVE “vintage” commmericials! McDonald’s, kids cereals, even the toys!

commericials aren’t like they used to be and it’s disappointing!

I’m on the look out for smiles now.

  11. I agree – the commercials this year were a bust. My family loves that AE commercial too. Everyone goes silent and stares when that commercial is on. I love your pinnochio face – very cute. I guess I need to find some smilie faces in my house.

  12. Okay, I have not seen a single one of these commercials. Maybe most of our commercials in Canada are just different. Hope you are having a great week. It sounds like half the globe is snowed under this past week – here we are, in a place that is typically snowy and cold and it’s been like -6C for the last month and a half!

  13. I wasn’t impressed with the commercials this year. I do remember the McDonald’s one, so sweet.
I see smileys all the time, they creeped me out when I was a kid. My grandma had this floral wall paper in her guest room that had creepy smileys all over it! I love the commercial though…it is very clever.

  14. Thanks for starting my day with a smile. I don’t remember that Rice Krispies commercial or the McDonald’s one, but I’m sure I saw them before because I grew up in the ’70’s and watched my share of teevee as a kid. The faces are a kick– I will have to start looking for those.

  15. What a great post Anna!!! We don’t get those commercials down here so I got a good chuckle out of both of them!!
Love all your smiley finds …. I’m gonna be on the lookout now :o)!!
    Hugs,
    Joy :O)

  16. It’s all in how you look at things, isn’t it? One of my favorite games as a child was to find faces in the Oriental rug on my grandmother’s floor (I was supposed to be taking a nap). I still like to look for those faces in the textures of life.

  17. Hi Anna: Love your post on the smile faces … now I’m going to walk around my home and find some. :-)

I vaguely remember the McDonald’s commercial you are talking about. One of my all time favorites is the Sierra Mist one where the guy is going through security at the airport and the wand keeps “beeping”. I think the people in it are popular actors … you will have to look it up on You Tube under: Sierra Mist Airport Commercial or Wand. Very funny!

Did you see my news over at Yellow Beach Dog? Take a look when you get a minute!

  18. Ha ha ha, how very funny,. I love these commercials and your photo.
    Pinocchionos is my favourite too.
You inspired me to have a close look at my place to find some friendly faces.
    Have a great weekend
    Janine

  19. Cute smileys Anna! I’ll be keeping my eyes open for ones around the house…in fact, I can see a few right now from where I sit. They’re everywhere! XO

  20. Apparently there’s something in our human nature that means that we search out faces in everything we see. It’s important for baby development. Hmm, nerd lady signing off.

  21. That AE commercial was fascinating . . . just goes to show you what you can see when you look. :o)

I wonder how many sad/smiley faces I have in my surroundings . . . and if they’re like subliminal advertising? lol

    Have a great weekend!

  22. That Rice Krispie ad is an absolute classic and one of my favorites also. The AE ad is just so good. I will have to look around my house for smileys, different from yours, of course. Oh,and um, I will never be able to look at a purse hook the same way again! lol

  23. So funny, I think I will be looking all over for funny faces too. you see things differently through your camera viewfinder…
my favorite commercial is for Traveler’s insurance, there’s a dog with a bone, he’s trying to find a safe place to put it, the sound track is a song about worrying.

  24. I’m definitely going to be looking for smiley faces everywhere now Anna, I think you just passed a little smiley-happy contagion to me! :) thank-you!

  25. I love all the commercials, but like you, I always stop to watch the “smiley face” commercial. What is it for anyway? A credit card I think?

I liked your smiley pics too.

    Jody

  26. The Krispies commercial is my favorite commercial ever! :) Sometimes I do that with the flower and sigh to my family and they have no idea why, so I have to explain the commercial over and over. I love it! Thanks for sharing it!! :)) Winter hugs! :) Are you waste deep in snow, too?
