A Late Night Post

Hello. Did ya miss me? Shhhh. I’m whispering, ’cause it’s really late here, and I’m sneaking my sins from the day into the house.

Dark

I’ve been off for an overnight visit to TheFirstChild and SweetiePie.  I barely saw TheFirstChild — he’s been working so hard studying and it’s a big test week, so he was very busy.  SweetiePie and I, on the other hand, got into a bit of trouble.

Fabric

We had a great time shopping — a few quilt shops, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, etc — all the fun shops we don’t have here.  We were well behaved except for the quilt shops.  Well, SweetiePie was well behaved everywhere, but I behaved shamelessly.  You can see, I had to have a bit of Authentic and Amy Butler’s Love.  And SweetiePie’s probably laughing as she reads this ’cause she knows that’s not all.  The rest is in the witness protection program for a little while longer.

Cupcake

After all of our shopping, we had to try out a little cupcake shop.  Mmmmmm – Mmmm.  The cupcakes were yummy.  We each had a “Bridal Cupcake” (almond flavored) and sat out in the glorious sun for awhile and played with the camera.  The weather was purrrrr-fect.  SweetiePie helped me out with a Wilson pose.

Cupcake

It was a super fun day and I miss my little angels already.  I can’t wait until we can do it again!

Did you notice the hint of golden leaves in that first dark picture?  I honestly can’t remember when we’ve had a more beautiful autumn.  In our yard, we’re usually lucky to have one or two really pretty trees, but this year, half of them are this beautiful shade of yellow.

FW Leaves

The annual leaf pick-up war started this past weekend, but this year’s show almost makes it all worth it.  (I say almost, ’cause I’m sure there will be grumbling when those trees are naked.)  I’ll be so sorry when all the leaves are gone.

FW Leaves

Oooh, and look at these funny maple leaves.  I’m thinking maybe we have a fungus of some sort?  They seem to be confined to just one tree.  I just checked — according to google (don’t you LOVE the internet?), they’re called galls and shouldn’t result in any harm to the tree.

FW Leaves

Here’s the view out our back windows.  When the sun is out, the inside of the house is just luminous.  It’s soooo pretty – I can’t wait to see it again tomorrow!  We’re so lucky this year — it’s just amazing!

FW Leaves

Ok — off to bed now.    For those of you in the northern hemisphere, I hope your leaves are just as beautiful as ours are this year.  And remember…what happens in Indy, stays in Indy!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Heehee! I love the idea of sneaking the stash into the house and burying it somewhere in the existing pile of goodness……and a visit to Crate and Barrel – I love that store – it’s probably just as well that there aren’t any here in the UK!

We have had a beautiful autumn – glorious colours and until this weekend good weather too – now the rain is with us and the clocks changed so it’s dark before 5! Winter is on its way!

  2. You have a wicked side to you, I like it. The trees are beautiful, the fabric is gorgeous and the cupcake looks delicious. It sounds like you had a terrific time out and about.

  3. Your new fabric looks scrummy Anna – so does the cupcake! If that was the view from my window I would spend all day looking out and never get anything done.

  4. How nice to hear from you and to see all this lovely photos you made.
Isn´t that the time you have to mulch your acres of land (lol)
    Have a great week
    Janine

  5. Sounds like a grand weekend with the kids…very fun! Great purchases…hmmm, what’s still in the witness protection program???? LOL!
    Love your leaves!!!!!!!!!!

  6. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, how nice. Glad you and sweetie pie had fun. I must try the cupcake place is it new? The Fabric looks so pretty too. I was just thinking how beautiful the leaves were here, I love the reds, yellow and golds.Hope you don’t have to work today. xoxo

  7. Anna, You were definitely a little sneak. Love all the photos. But my favorite is the cupcake. MMMMMM… almond flavor, gotta love that. Did it taste just like marzipan? Love that too.

  8. Oh….You are a naughty girl! I hope those leaves last a few more weeks. Maybe we can meet for a cupcake between the 7th. and the 21st.?

  9. your yard is amazing.
your fabric is to DIE for.
can’t wait to see the rest!!
you cheated on magnolia cupcakes and went somewhere else???? was it worth it? cuz somewhere, i’m sure, alyssa torrey is shedding a tear…. it’s okay alyssa, i, your remaining true cupcake fan, will never go to another cupcake shop other than magnolia… i’m sorry anna has let you down, but don’t worry, you still have me.

  10. I love those Authentic fabrics. Too pretty!

Your fall leaves are lovely. Ours went through a freeze and are simply getting brown and falling off. Boo-hoo!

  11. Witness protection program. You crack me up! Those are some lovely fabrics, though. I got me some Love, and I love it! I definitely need more of those sunspots, though. Yummy looking cupcake.

  12. Fabric and cupcakes – it can’t get much better than that. I too have been taking some fall photos – its such a lovely time of year.

  13. Ha ha! Sneaking your sins from the day into the house, LOL! Enjoy all your goodies! The fall photos are fabulous and fabulous! I just had to go with the consonance going on in that last sentence!

  14. I am battling leaf envy here. We hardly ever have pretty fall foliage here, except on the Chinese Tallow trees. Everything in Houston is still green, really green, we’ve had lots of rain, but it’s cooler.
Your fabric sins are beautiful. Can’t wait to see what they turn into. ;)

  15. Great photos and I enjoyed reading about your adventures. I had a big adventure yesterday, too, and didn’t share all my shopping sins on my blog today either — what my husband doesn’t know can’t hurt him — LOL.

  16. Okay, where’d you pick up the amy butler love? I’m on the west side & our little quiltery doesn’t carry the good stuff. I’m assuming you were in Carmel or on 86th street. Fill me in PLEASE! I need some Love :)

  17. Hey… what leaves.. the brown that are lying on the ground…soon covered with snow…lol… I must say your leaves are prettier than mine!!!

  18. Sounds like a wonderful trip. How could it not be with children and quilt shops rolled in to one great visit? Our foliage is just beautiful here in South Carolina too.

  19. Your yard looks so pretty Anna. Now as for the sins that you need to sneak in the house….. what I do is, when my husbands asks “Is that new?”, just say No I’ve had that for a long time ~ I guess you never noticed. Hope this helps, it works for me. ;)

  20. Fall is so pretty at your house! Here, we have I think Fall’s retarded cousin. It’s hot, it’s cold, it’s windy, it’s raining – and only a handful of trees do anything interesting with their leaves. The rest just fall in my yard and make a brown mess.

Still though – I’m loving it.

  21. It’s so lovely that you have such fun with Sweetiepie Anna! It’s great to see you (kind of) in the flesh holding something we all want too, always – CAKE!

Those leaves are beautiful. We haven’t had strong winds here and we have some lovely colours too – pretty innit?

  22. Fabulous photos!!

The leaves are almost all done here and the rainy weather is eminent….I don’t complain though…it means sewing time to me :o)

  23. I just found your blog – love the rabbits! I am a quilter, sewer, crafter etc etc – love anything to do with bunnies. Just started blogging – I’m hooked already.

  24. You are cracking me up with your witness protection program!! I think that’s where my sock yarn I ordered last night will have to go! Sounds like a wonderful shopping day, glad you had such a fun overnight. I totally agree with you , the leaves this year are beautiful. I’m so glad we don’t rake all ours though, I can’t even imagine it……we just let them blow into the field!

  25. Can’t wait to see what you create with those new “middle of the night smuggling” fabrics. I did a little smuggling myself yesterday. It was on sale though so I HAD to have it.

Our leaves are beautiful this year too. With 22 trees in our backyard, there are tons of leaves.

  26. Those leaves are gorgeous! I could totally see some cute little thimbles on top of those pretty golden leaves. Can’t you? ;o) ooxx

  27. Love your photos!! Wisconsin is having a beautiful Fall also! I especially love that cupcake!! So glad you had a nice visit with shopping thrown in. What else did you buy??

  28. Quilting and cupcakes!!! Does it get any better than that? I think not!

And thanks for posting the great fall leaves shot. I miss that part about living back east so much!

  29. Oh, that is so funny! My friend does the same thing only, now that her husband is retired, it’s much more difficult to sneak the stuff in- he’s always around!
The view out your back window is beautiful. :)

  30. Wow, the fall leaves are beautiful! I love the way they blanket the ground and how beautiful the leaves look when the sun is shining through them when you look up at them. Yummy candy corn oatmeal! Would have never thought of that! I can see a great creative mind at work and play! I know how you feel about buying things that were loved once by someone else. I have a quilted teddy that was made from original flour sack cloth that must have been loved very much by a little boy.

  31. Those trees are just gorgeous!! As much as I love San Diego, I do wish we had a bit more seasonal stuff…leaves changing color, a snow day or two…sigh. I love your fabric choices…I have a quilt in Authentic in the works right now, and I just had my first glimpse of Love in a lqs and decided I must indulge when I go back next week!!! I want to know what you’ve got in Witness Protection though…come on I promise not to tell :)

  32. The leaves are just beautiful arent they? I am enjoying them soo much. I hate to see them all go away. But I remember what it looks like in the spring when everything blooms again.
That cupcake looks sooo yummy. Looks like you two had a great time.

  33. You’re so funny, sneaking around like that! Your “sins” look good to me! The yellow and gold trees are absolutely stunning! Our leaves are gone now, but I’ll enjoy looking at yours.

    Jody

  34. I so wish we would have had color this year Anna! We had an early freeze and all the leaves died right on the trees and wilted and turned brown. Maybe next year. Love the love, and I must get MORE authentic! Isn’t it the greatest???

  35. Oh the leaves. Yes, they are gorgeous here too. Just as you said: When the sun shines our whole house kind of bathes in golden light. It’s gorgeous!
