2012

And just like that, it’s all over. What a blur! Did you all have a wonderful holiday season? Or how ’bout year? The weeks just fly by, don’t they?

We had a fun New Year’s and now I’ve been hard at work to get the house back to normal. I’m off of work this week and I had this grand vision to clean at least one closet each day, pick things up a little and then sew. Here we are at Tuesday, and so far, all that’s happened has been cleaning — and there’s still more. I’m going to look the other way and run to the sewing machine — the week is flying by!

I’m pretty sure you don’t want to see pictures of my dust rag, so I thought I’d show you a few gifts I received. SweetiePie and TheFirstChild gave me these bicycle drinking glasses. Look! There’s a banana bike! Aren’t they the cutest? Thanks SweetiePie — you’re always so thoughtful and I just love them!

Bicycle Glasses

Last year, when we visited TheManoftheHouse’s parents, my MIL gave me a sewing box that had been her mother’s. It’s such a pretty box, and I’m just thrilled that she has entrusted it to me. I asked BigDaddy if he’d make a stand so that the sewing box could sit at my end of the couch, where I sit and sew. I just love it!

Sewing Box

Now, I’m off to the dungeon to see if I can’t scare up a project. (As if I don’t have any to work on — ha!) I was very excited this week when Amber from A Little Bit Biased asked me if I’d provide some Tips for Tuesday. If you click over there, you’ll get to see a few peeks of my sewing room — but just a few, ’cause my room is much more functional than it is pretty. ( If you’re a long time reader, some of it will be familiar to you.)

Sewing Room

Thanks for inviting me to guest post Amber — it was lots of fun.

Happy New Year! A new year … a new start … I hope it’s a happy and healthy year for everyone.
XOXO,
Anna

  1. I love the combination of sewing supplies and organization. Then you are free to create away. Your space is absolutely perfect!! And I LOVE Shandi!

  2. Wow, Wow, Wow. Cna’t believe how organized you are. I will trade you rooms in a heartbeat. My sewing room is a spare bedroom but you are so much more creative than I. Your pegboard reminds me of Julia Child’s kitchen pegboard with her outlines of her pans drawn on it.

  3. Oh I love your bicycle glasses. They are SO cute. Perhaps if I gave my M-i-L such a great gift, she’d like me as much as you like SweetiePie. Nah, not gonna happen ;)
Beautiful sewing box and what a great idea to put it on a stand. My mother gave me her sewing box a while back. It sits in a storage unit on Prince Edward Island because I had it in our island house until we sold it. I miss that sewing box. Man, I miss that house!
I’m going over to Amber’s to check out your sewing room!
    Happy New Year, my friend!

  4. Those glasses are so stinkin cute…that sweetie pie, she has done it again. I use to have a banana seat bike. It wast white with rainbox marks on it and rainbow streamers on the handlebars. LOVED it. Have you ever watched the episode of friends when they buy Phoebe her first ever bike. HILARIOUS.

  5. Yes, this last year has indeed just flown by. I really don’t know where it went??? Love your new drinking glasses, they are such fun! And the sewing box and table are wonderful reminders of the continuation from one generation to the next! Will go and check out your guest post now. Happy New Year too and don’t overdo the cleaning. It will just get dirty again ;).

  6. Loved reading your guest post! I’m sure you would be creative wherever you choose to sew.
    Those bicycle glasses…. cute!

  7. I love your space- it is very fun to see where you go to create- we all have our own ways of doing things that work for us. Your chandelier is just such a fun thing in your space.
Happy New Year to you and yours.
    Warmest regards,
    Anna

  8. Well a post full of things to love…the glasses…oh my gosh! And the sewing box…OH my gosh! And the organized stash…OH MY gosh! And finally Shandi OH MY GOSH!!!!

  9. Hi Anna, HaPpY NeW YeAr!!! Mine is starting slow. I think I have misplaced my motivation. I am trying to finish a pair of socks I started for the husb… almost there thanks to all the football games I have been pretending to watch while I work on them. :) As for cleaning closets… one a week would be a lofty goal for me!

  10. LOVE those glasses! LOVE the sewing box! I love having my fabric visible on shelves. It makes the planning of a new quilt go much faster. Mine sits in a giant 7 ft tall cabinet in my kitchen. Yes, my kitchen. I love being able to see it every day when I’m sewing or when I’m cooking/cleaning. However, people who don’t quilt don’t get the need to have a full range of colors to create. They do think we’re in need of help. My feeling? Screw ’em. Life’s too short to not have some fun. ;p

    Yay!! 2012!

  11. I love the glasses and the sewing box is amazing, what a treasure. I’m off to drool over your sewing room, mainly the fabrics I think.

  12. Happy new year, Anna! I’m also clean-clean-cleaning now that the Christmas mess is over with…trees down, stuff stored, etc etc etc. No sewing for me until I get the entire house gone over, otherwise I’ll get stalled…
I love your banner photo, so cute!
Great photos, lots of great eye candy!
    xo xo

  13. Seriously, was that the lamest comment ever? Compared to how much I really enjoyed the photos it was a dissapointment. Sorry.

  14. I love the box. The stand is great. What a sweet gift. However, I’m stunned by your white carpet. That is pretty celestial. It wouldn’t stand up in my house. My tan carpet is perpetually stained with some drink or someone’s dirty shoes (mostly my husband). I’m jealous. The glasses are cute, too.

  15. Way to go SweetiePie. I just love the glasses. Are they still out to purchase. How Fun.
You keep doing the cleaning, they you can just sew sew sew.
Love the stuff you share with us.
    Thanks and Happy New Year!

  16. ANNA!!! Is it really over? Can I come up for air? What a mixed blessing the holidays are. I love them, but they exhaust me.
Love your new glasses. That SweetiePie is a keeper. Happy New Year and enjoy your week off.
    XOXO~

  17. Hi Anna, I hope you had a great new- years day, and the new year will bring you health,
happiness and a lot of creativity, and with a little luck you could be the winner
of my new- years giveaway. You are heartily invited to join it if you want to.
I am looking foreward to see 2012 quilts.

  18. Good grief, Anna, I had no idea that your basement was a sort of shop. Wow. Now, you’ve been in my house and you know we have no basement. Or spare room that doesn’t get used by visiting children. So you’re saying I need to move house before I can start making a quilt?

  19. Okay I love love love your glasses, as you know I own a bike shop that sell those exact bikes you are so lucky. Also your sewing space is lovely thanks for sharing

  20. Every year the Holiday Season is a blurr. I actually love the preparation and anticipation of the fun even better. I bet I told you so before…
I’m going to have a sneak peek in your sewing space now!

  21. Happy New Year Anna! Congrats on the Gingerbread House, always enjoy those posts. I had to scoot over and read your entry and loved seeing the beloved dungeon. Ms. SweetiePie did a great job getting those darling glasses for you! I had a pink bike with a white banana seat and the high handlebars. Love the memories.

  22. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
your guest post & tips were just fab & your sewing room is a dream…LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! MOVE over MARTHA!!!
pls let us know where sweetpie purchased those glasses…they are just great!

  23. Cute, cute bikey glasses. That sweet SweetiePie! I enjoyed your organizational tips for the sewing room. I just recently moved mine from a downstairs room up to a bedroom and I need to get it organized. I like the fabric folding method and the peg board walls look super! Thank you for sharing.

  24. As someone about to take over childs bedroom for sewing space, this was very timely…and your sewing space looks waaaaay better than mine…trust me.

  25. I read your guest post a few days ago and never came back to comment…. At least I can’t remember if I did or not. SO. Very nice guest post. :) I love the look of your stash. Want to share some?? LOL!! The drinking glasses that you received are super cute. Those would look great in my own kitchen.

  26. Great bicycle drinking glasses!
But what I really want to see more of is the wood sewing box. Will you share a closer-up and an interior shot? It looks absolutely charming.

  27. What wonderful gifts! Those glasses are adorable and the sewing box is gorgeous! The stand is perfect for it, too. You lucky duck. Your sewing room is awesome. I can only hope that mine will one day be as organized. I’m doing my annual clearing out and where did I start? Well, not the sewing room, where I needed to. But, I think I will spend my Sunday afternoon listening to Helen Jane Long (and the like) on Pandora and fold all of my fabric into tidy little packages a la you and Monica.
Enjoy your time with your son. :)
