Tumblers

I’ve finally finished my little tumbler quilt. I thought it would be a much quicker project than it turned out to be.

I’ve always loved the tumbler pattern and thought it would be a good quilt for a quick baby gift or something. Now that I’ve made one, I know I won’t make another one for a “casual aquaintance” gift unless the tumblers are larger.

Anyway, this was a fun project. This was a kit that I picked up at a quilt show several years ago and I’m happy that this little kit is no longer nagging me from the shelf it used to sit upon.

The big pine trees in our backyard played the role of quilt holder this time.  It was a little windy when I took the pictures this morning, so I didn’t stay out in the cold for long.

Now to pick a new project. There are so many possibilities and I always have a hard time deciding. That’s how I eneded up doing this tumbler quilt — I have several long-term quilt ideas and I was avoiding making a decision!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Your tumblers are super cute! And yes, the big ones go a lot faster. I’ve bought the small tumbler die for the go cutter, but haven’t quite worked myself up to doing one of those yet. I like how you’ve quilted yours.

  2. I can’t ever imagine that being a quick project. It’s fabulous – so bright and jolly. It makes me wish I had the time and patience for making quilts.

  3. Oh Anna! I love it! Pretty and cheerful, doesn’t it feel great to accomplish projects. Can’t wait to see what you work on next :) xo

  4. what size are those tumblers? I have a tumbler project in mind for my collection of mini charm packs I want to make it as large as I can get myself to stick with it

  5. Your tumbler quilt turned out lovely and it’s not so little either. And I can see that there’s still snow on the ground on your end. Have fun thinking of your next project.

  6. ha ha ha ha…i made my DAD a large tumbler quilt for Christmas last year….he is a bit more than a casual acquaintece!! we have different degrees of what quilt to make who anna!! but your blocks do look rather small….super size them next time!! it is a quick assembly with them super sized.

any decisions on what will be next? ive been thinking about one of jen kingswell patterns….

  7. I think this quilt needs to go in your “hope chest”. It’s adorable and does look like a baby quilt. I can’t wait to see what you whip up next.

  8. Hooray for a finish! I really like it. I know what you mean. I have been trying to stay focused and work on what I have at the ready here at home. It’s been a challenge at times but I’m holding strong. Well, as strong as I can.

  9. new project you say? well…. let me choose something for us, and then i will start it and you will make it! i made a baby quilt for one of dolly’s bosses. never. again. i decided that the only ppl who get quilts are my offspring. your tumbler quilt is darling. i’m sure whoever is getting it will love it. there isn’t a nicer gift that i can think of than a quilt.
have a great week anna banana.
you know me, i’m going to pop my minnie ears on and get back to work!

  10. Wow, it’s really beautiful but it does not look quick or easy to me. It’s just gorgeous, though. I think it would be a perfect baby quilt.

  11. if it were me? i would have kept that quilt and just picked up a charm pack to make a baby quilt! i guess i’m more selfish than you? ;p

  12. Really like the bright and cheery feel the quilt has. Perfect for a little one. For some reason, tumbling blocks scare me. Should they? Anyway, great finish. Like you, I always have a dilemma deciding on a new project. (By the way, I ended up posting about my show- you shamed me into it!)

  13. I love the big tumbler quilts. Haven’t tried a little one. But it’s got to be easier than most, right? Turned out cute. Bet you’re glad it’s off the list.

  14. Ha ha… I didn’t need to wait soooo long to see the quilt….sometimes it’s good to be behind in reading posts…lol
    Love love it Anna!!!
    Ahhh… Now I have to make one…I really do….:0))

  15. It looks lovely!!! I wish I was a “casual aquaintance”!

What is it that makes the tumbler quilt time consuming? Does the shape give challenges you didn’t see beforehand, and if so, what challenges?

  16. So cute though, hope the baby loves it!! no sewing here almost a month straight of travel. I am dragging along hexies but unlike Bonnie Hunter I am usually to tired to sew at the end of the day. That darn Steam punk will not go away in my head.

  17. It’s a sweet quilt. It does look like a lot of tiny pieces to sew together. Someone will enjoy that tumbly quilt.

  18. That is a super cute quilt for a baby! I will have to remember the tumbler next time I need to whip one up! I love ME fabrics too!
what the heck is up with the comment before mine???

  19. That is large for a baby quilt…you know I’m only 5’1″ and shrinking (aren’t we all). Love the colors – it’s so HAPPY !!! The Bloomington Quilt Show is next weekend and the Flower & Patio show starts at the Fairgrounds…things are starting to happen…lets hope the weather cooperates. I’m just ignoring it now. Be well my friend…

  20. Anna, I counted 500 pcs!! I LOVE the colors and I love the tumblers. Congratulations, it’s so satisfying to finish a project and it looks so pretty, reminds me of spring and easter :)

I love your pictures too, the way the wind blows the quilt up as if playing with it. The bright colors and the snow is a nice reminder that spring is just around the corner

  21. It is stunning – such lovely bright, cheery colours – kind of summery which is nice! You must be pleased that you finally finished it, but of course you are now forced into more decisions about what next ! xCathy

  22. Omg you just reminded me I have that kit too. Matter of fact, we might have been to that quilt show together. Chicago?? I loved that quilt and then I moved and never saw it again. I’m going to have to drag that out.
Love yours! But then I love everything Miss Anna does.

  23. Ohhhh, ahhhhh,…. purty! Did you use Miss Rosie’s tumbler ruler to make the quilt? I love how it turned out! Thanks for sharing!
