There’s a Monkey on My …. Foot

I finally, finally, FINALLY got my first pair of monkey socks done.  WooHoo!!!  They seemed to take forever to finish — probably because I was so hit-and-miss when I worked on them — only once or twice a month.  How pathetic!

Monkey Socks

It really took me a long time to get used to the pattern.  I read on Ravelry where someone said that by the time you did the 11-row repeat two or three times, you’d have the pattern all figured out.  At my remedial pace, it took me until the last half of the second sock to really “feel” the pattern.  Up until that point, I found them to be a pain in the behind — mostly because I would mess them up terribly while talking to someone and have to rip back several rows.

All along, I thought I wouldn’t make this pattern again, but now that I’ve had my lightbulb moment, I’ll definitely try them again.  Plus, I really like the appearance of these socks and they’re pretty cozy.

Monkey Socks

There does seem to be one drawback though.  When my trusty model SweetiePie put them on, this monkey came screaming around the corner and grabbed her pant leg.  And he wouldn’t let go.  I was just glad his sister monkey didn’t put in an appearance — she’s lurking around here somewhere.  (I think maybe TheEmptyNestChild absconded with her some time ago — you know his affinity for all things stuffed.)

Monkey Socks

SweetiePie tried to get him to let go by crossing her feet, but he was having none of it.  He finally let go and ran off when he spied TheEmptyNestChild lurking across the room.  It was such a relief to get that monkey off her … foot.

I hope you’re all enjoying your week and that SOMEone SOMEwhere is having a taste of spring, because it’s clearly still winter here!

XOXO,
Anna

P.S.  My monkeys are made from Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Yarn (which is just yummy!) on size 2 dpns with this wonderful pattern.

  1. Those monkey socks look very professional. Better not wear them to the zoo…that monkey sock attraction might be deadly. Hee Hee!

  2. Great socks!!! Your so talented over there knitting. I just could not understand that whole knitting thing. lol Love the monkey too.

  3. They are sooooo nice, but maybe are only safe to wear when TheEmptyNestChild is on the prowl?? (to guard against monkeys of course)
You totally beat me getting these done! I am still on the upper leg of my second – I got distracted by my shawl and now the sudden need to knit dishcloths!

  4. Anna, oh those socks look wonderful. I have been a craft snob thinking I am a sewer and stitcher, not a yarn girl but all these socks you ladies have been making are sooooo nice. Maybe I need to admit defeat and dive into the yarn world. The spring memo has definitely not reached here either and my tootsies are always cold, all two of them.
Those gifts you got are so special. That pin cushion! That sweet dolly! There is nothing better than a present hand made with love. I hope things are well with your crew. I’m wishing us both a fast approaching spring! Love Stacy

  5. I love the yarn that you’ve used and the socks are beautiful. I bought myself a beginner’s sock knitting book yesterday as I want to be in the sock knitting club too!!

It’s suddenly become spring here in the past two days but will be snowing by the weekend!
    xx

  6. oh Anna…you are so funny! Love the socks and I find that with pattern repeats, it takes me ages to memorise them and then just before I finish something, I realise how the pattern works and I can memorise it!

  7. Such yummy yarn! The socks are gorgeous–would almost tempt me away from my quilts for a while…From one procrastinator to another—how long from start to finish??

  8. Love the socks–and the monkey! I managed to finished one sock and I gave up on knitting. Too stressful for me. I am sticking to sewing.

  9. Wonderful socks Anna, how I wish I could knit! I keep seeing these beautiful warm socks appearing everywhere. And yes, wouldn’t it be nice to have a taste of spring

  10. YIKES those socks look really scary – lots of pattern going on there. Modeled very nicely by SweetiePie, even with the dang monkey hanging on. You are to funny – props and all with your posts, LOL. Glad you mastered the socks :).

  11. Wow, those turned out awesome! I love the colors and the pattern. hee hee, I thought you made the little monkey also, until I looked at the pattern and saw it was the socks named Monkey socks. :)

  12. Congrats on the socks – what an accomplishment. They’re almost too fancy to wear!

And, hey, we’re honoring your spring here. The radishes are coming up around your future beets. :)

  13. Nice work on the socks! They did turn out fabulous. The size 2 needles are enough to keep me admiring them from afar though, I have a hard enough time using 8’s or 9’s!

  14. They look very soft and cosy and I love the colours. It always takes me ages to get the hang of a pattern repeat, and even when I really know it I still read it from the pattern just to make sure.
It’s been very warm here this week but colder weather is forecast for the weekend. Hope you get some sunshine soon!

  15. Anna, I’m convinced now that you can do anything! Those socks are great. I know you’ll enjoy them.

Here in Houston, it’s been in the eighties today, but we’ve already had to mow the yard twice this spring, so enjoy your cool weather. I think ours is pretty well over!

  16. Oh, Anna, those socks are beautiful! I love the yarn you used, too. I. really. must. learn to. knit. Your socks may have just tipped me over the edge.

  17. Awesome socks! well worth the effort. I made the same pattern and really had to concentrate on every stitch. After seeing yours, I’m itching to try these one more time. The Monkey socks I made went to my SIL and she teaches grade 1, the kids get a kick out of her socks.

  18. Beautiful socks, Anna. My mom knitted all her grandkids (eight in all) socks similar to these for Christmas. My sisters and I were very jealous. LOL! I have tried knitting but I seem to be a true knit-wit–pun intended. Not my cup of tea but I wish it were. Lovely! Lovely!

  19. Oh cute socks!!! Dang it…now I want to try and I’m trying to cut down on projects NOT add to the list LOL!!! Cute little monkey too :)
