Little Vinyl Bag

Ok, you guys are pretty darn funny! Your comments on our new stove knob color are keeping us very entertained here in ThimbleannaLand. Thanks so much for taking the time to place your guess. And to Kristyne and MyDadLovesMeBestSister, PINK and half-and-half are NOT options for the contest! In case you’ve missed something, scroll down to the previous post and you can guess what color we selected for our new stove knobs, and if you guess correctly, I’ll enter you for a chance to win a Ruby charm pack and a few more goodies.

In the meantime, a few weekends ago, I had to take a break from tile chipping and sneak in a little sewing in the dungeon. When our Beloved Aunt Annie was here for a visit, she had a cute little polka dotted vinyl bag. After much discussion, we decided that we could probably make a similar version, so when MeMum and Aunt Annie went to Shipshewana I had them pick me up a piece of vinyl.

Vinyl Bag

I think this is a Kate Spain vinyl — there wasn’t anything on the selvedge, but it matches Kate’s blog header and wallpaper!

Vinyl Bag

I’m not much of a bag person, but sometimes I get tired of carrying my big backpack around.  I think this is really the first time I’ve had a purse that I couldn’t sling over my shoulder — for years that was the default, as my hands were always full with other things.   This little bag is the perfect size — it’s small and just right for my wallet, a notepad and my cell phone.

Vinyl Bag

I took some pictures when I made this little bag so that I’d be able to make another one.  (I love that orange with my blue jeans!)  In case you’d like an easy little vinyl bag for yourself (three hours start to finish!), I made a pdf file with instructions — available HERE

Have a good week!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. Love the bag! Love it! And the fact that you just ‘sewed one up’!! So talented! Thanks for doing up a PDF for the rest of us ;-)

  2. If I had a bag that size, I would need another one for all the stuff that didn’t fit in the first one! Ah well – it must burn off extra calories lugging my backpack everywhere!!

  3. Super cute and perfect with your blue jeans! Geez-louise, I’ll just add this to my ever-growing list of things to make.
    Thanks a bunch, sweets. :)

  4. What a cute bag Anna. I’ve been wanting to work with vinyl too, have a few bag patterns I would love to make with it. Is it easy to work with?

  5. Thanks for the tutorial Anna! Someday I’d like to make something out of vinyl too and now I have an idea! Your bag turned out sooo cute and I love that you are carrying what looks like fat quarters in it! BTW – I’ve been meaning to tell you I love your blog headers. It’s fun to see the newest way you’ve placed the thimbles!

  6. That is soooooo cute. In the local quilt shop here they have some really cute vinyl…Hmmm…Christmas will be here before ya know it…I wonder….

  7. Zowee! I love that orange bag! I. Love. Orange.
You are SO nice to make a PDF with the pattern. I want to make it soon. Not yet, but soon.

    Thank you Miss Thimble.

    are
    brilliant.
even though you now carry a fabric/vinyl purse.
    we can still be friends.
    it’s cute.
when we go to europe together i’ll probably ask you to leave it back home.
    :D

  10. I’m even more in suspense about your cooker now!

That little bag is stunning. I’m so in need of something like that but much smaller for my makeup – my current makeup bag has given up the ghost and I don’t get out much! Oh how I need to properly master my Gran’s sewing machine.

  11. AWESOME bag!! Love the color. :) Thank you for sharing the wonderful tutorial with us. I vote RED stove Knobs!!! They would be outstanding! :D

  12. Such a cute little bag! And thanks for the free pattern. I must confess, I’m known by family and friends (lovingly, I’m sure) as the “bag lady.” Never met a bag I didn’t like. Well, there have been a few, but it wasn’t their fault. :D

  13. You guessed correctly – that fabric is Kate Spain’s “Central Park” collection – I went a little overboard buying tons of it this season!

  14. Just catching up on some blog reading….been busy busy around here. Love the bag to match your knobs!!! Please send me some photos of the rest of the kitchen when you get the chance. BTW, how did you manage to sneak that much fabric into your bags?????

  15. Dang cute bag sister. I have several bag patterns with intentions of giving one a whirl sometime – who knows maybe this summer is the time, lol.

    Hugs – Karen

  16. Yep, definitely Kate Spain, as someone mentioned it’s from her Central Park line, which is awesome! Though I have to say that my love for that line is being dwarfed by my already abiding love for her collection Terrain that’ll be out in September. I hate having to wait so long!

The bag looks awesome! I’m still a bit scared of bag sewing…
