Five on Friday

1.  I’m making progress on my steampunk blocks.  I’m slow, but I’m taking my time and having great fun.

2.  MeMum and I went to Shipshewana last week.  While I was in Lolly’s (I would link, but it looks like their website is no longer there), I noticed Primarily Quilts by Di Ford behind the cash register.  I’d been checking it out on the internet, so I took the opportunity to save money on postage and treated myself.

There are some gorgeous quilts in this book.  I particularly have my eye on Phebe.  Because, you know.  Sheepies!

3.  A month or two ago, I came across Esther Alieu’s blog.  Are you following along with her Love Entwined quilt along?  There are hundreds of women making this quilt (which is certainly not for the faint of heart) and I think it’s going to be great fun to watch their progress.  It’s SOOO tempting to join in, but.  I won’t list my lame reasons.  Anyway, I’m really looking forward to seeing the many variations of this quilt.  You have to join the Yahoo Group to see all the pictures.  Totally worth it!

4.  I won a giveaway from Meredithe.  She makes beautiful quilting templates and she sent me the set for this fun Cheddar star block.  Thank You Meredithe!

5.  Summer is in full swing around here, as evidenced by my growing coneflower bed.  I love my coneflowers and look forward to seeing them bloom every year.  It’s been hot and miserable and muggy (thank you rain!) for a week, but it broke yesterday and we’re in for a perfect weekend.

I hope your weekend will be great too!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. Those steampunk blocks are impressive. I like your color combinations.

I am thinking about a little trip to Amish country myself, but that is Lancaster, PA, for me. Always fun to go to several quilt shops in one day, and even better when they have lower prices.

  2. Your Steam Punk blocks are fabulous!!

The Phebe quilt as well as Entwined are made by lots of Dutch quilters at the moment. They mostly use traditional fabrics.

    Happy weekend Anna!

  3. Hi Anna,
Just love your steampunk blocks. I’m not a huge black and yellow fan, but somehow your combinations are making me rethink myself. We’re having the same less humid, cooler and absolutely FABULOUS weather you mention. Happy sewing :)

Dang you! Now I want another book! That looks awesome, and I love that quilt you pointed out as well!

Congrats on your win! How fun!

  6. Oh wow, I’m loving your steampunk blocks, I love the colors you’re using. I need to get out in the garden and take some pics, I noticed my coneflowers are blooming too. Congrats on the win! I like your new blog look, when I come here I have to think twice to who’s blog I’m visiting :)

  7. Great progress with your steampunk blocks! I have also joined Esther’s yahoo group and I’m really enjoying to see what everybody is doing. For the time being, I’m not joining in (too many other things going on) but have downloaded the first block and will continue to do so. That way I have the option to do it at a later stage. It’s a stunning quilt, but the WORK!!!!

  8. love the blocks at the top of your post – I have not heard of “steam pump blocks” I won a set of those templates from Meredith too but I’m not sure which ones I’m getting! they haven’t arrived yet.

  9. I love your quilt blogs. They are looking great. As for the ‘Love Entwined’ – holy crap! Ain’t no way I could do that! :)

What a great feeling to cross an item off your list! Way to go A! Or maybe that should be Hey, cuz I’m Canadian! ;o)

I read you about the weather. Sunday was a gorgeous day in upstate, took the time to clean my pool. All I’ve been doing is emptying it! It was nice to be able to use it! Cheers!
