  • It’s Official!  Spring has sprung in ThimbleannaLand.

    Duck Couple

Our DuckCouple is back.  Yipee!  I love it when our little DuckCouple returns.  They’ll be here for another week or so and then they’ll move on.  I wish they’d have their babies here.  Apparently, we’re good enough for a stopover, but not the nursery.  I hope they’ll be safe while they’re here, too.  We got a neighborhood notice that someone a few streets over lost a small dog to coyotes.  The fact that we have coyotes around here is always startling to me — I’m mostly from out west and I thought coyotes were a western thing.  I mean think about it — you always read about coyotes and cowboys, not coyotes and cornfields.

  • Last month, I participated in a spring/fall swap hosted by the ever so lovely Trashalou.  It was a really fun swap for me, as my partner was new to me — the very sweet Catherine of Calidore.

    Spring Swap

I made a little bag for Catherine to keep her hand sewing things in — scissors, thread, needle, thimble, etc.  I have a little stitchery bag and I carry it everywhere.  I drew up the pattern for this one — if I were to do it again, I would use Janet’s fantastic tutorial — I LOVE her little bag.  She published her pattern just after I finished this bag.  Catherine got better pictures of the goodies than I did and she wrote me such a wonderful thank you.  Thank YOU Catherine!  The package to me is on it’s way — I’m not sure if it will be from Catherine or someone else (the partners were a surprise), but I’m excited to find out!  Thanks for hosting Trashy!

  • Flat Stanley has paid us a visit!  Beth’s young son’s class is doing a Flat Stanley project and I offered to host him here in ThimbleannaLand.  While he was here I took him to see Johnny Appleseed‘s grave.  It was a beautiful day and I think he rather enjoyed it (I certainly did)!  If you’d like Flat Stanley to come and visit you, I’m sure Beth could hook you up.  ;-)

  1. I love the little bag you created for Trashalou! What a perfect swap pressie and I hope you receive something just as wonderful too. How nice to be able to have a visitor over, hehehe! Johnny Appleseed’s grave must be interesting to visit. Thanks for showing us what it looks like. The bunny looks as though he he is raring to go, hope he comes and visits me!

  2. What a cute little bag, and handy too! I’m always casting about for a zip lock or whatever to carry hand stitching in….now I see what I need to make!

Our doves returned again this year to the same palm tree! They must have been there a good while [during the cold…brrrr!] because when I finally saw them, not only had the babies hatched, by the time I got my camera to take a pic, they’d finished flight training and vanished!

  3. I’m glad that spring is in the air at your end of the world. Enjoy your DuckCouple while they are there. But don’t they make an awful mess?? Happy Easter Vreni

we had one get hit by a car last week and her male buddy stayed beside her for HOURS. it was so sad.
    your bunny is darling.
i noticed the unusually large buttons…
how many do you have? hmmmm?

  6. I bet Flat Stanley has never met Johnny Appleseed before. What a great place to take him. We have Flat Stanley at our school and he’s been all over the world. What a fun school project for the kids. They LOVE it!! What a cute bag for your swap. I love mine. Thanks again!

  7. That bag is adorable! Catherine is lucky to receive such a nice gift. We used to have a pair of ducks that would return every spring to the swimming pool, but I haven’t seen them in a few years. I hope the coyotes don’t get your’s.

Flat Stanley … how cute. I remember reading about Johnny Appleseed as a child and enjoying the story, although I can’t recall the details now in my old age :o)

  8. What a wonderful bag…:o) Swaps are so much fun!
    SPRING… ;o)) Looks nice with green frass..:o)

Still plenty of snow here for Your Lovely little bunny to play in here.. maybe go skiiing.. have a picnic in the snow… lots of fun…
    Happy Easter to you all..:o)

  9. Oooh, what a lucky swap partner! I had Calidore sending to me in Trashy’s rainbow swap last year and whoever receives from her will be very lucky indded :-)

I have the bunny’s bedroom all ready, now if you’d just like to pop him in the post … I could certainly keep him safe from coyotes or marauding ducks.

  10. Oh look, Buuny is all packed and ready to go to a new home. Your purse is wonderful, nice and deep to fit lots in. Love the embroidery on it.

  11. Our resident ducks are back too… at least across the street in the neighbor’s pond. Love the swap items you did. And I HOPE Mr. Bunny will be coming to live with meeeeeeeee!

    Happy Easter!

  12. Such adorable ducks–I love mallards. I was surprised to hear that my aunt & uncle in central Wisconsin see coyotes, too. I guess they really get around!

  13. Where do you hear about the swaps? I would love to participate in them but never find them.

I love Flat Stanley. He went to our retreat one year!

  14. The personalized bag you made for your swap partner is super cute. I know she’ll enjoy using it and will think of you every single time.

I love Flat Stanley projects, I did one a couple of years ago but it was called Flat Avery after the little girl it represented. It was so fun taking her everywhere with us and photographing all her wanderings in Tucson. I love that you took Flat Stanley to see the grave of Johnny Appleseed.

  15. Hi Anna, glad you’re finally getting some spring, even if you do prefer winter. :) I love your little bag, but thanks for the link to quiltsalot’s tute. It looks very do-able, even for me. Happy Easter!

  16. My grandson was smart – he sent his flat stanley to my sister’s house in Hawaii…naturally he got some pretty good shots and a good grade.
Be careful what you wish for…when we moved into this house there was a momma duck & hatched babies right outside our window. She was not happy anytime we were in the backyard. And when the little ones hatched they died and the poor momma just kept sitting on her nest. Too sad. Maybe just visiting isn’t so bad afterall.
    take care friend, robin

  17. Hey! Stanley came to my house once. This was Stanley from Florida. It was so cold here that I had to make a coat for him. Check it out: http://yougogirl.typepad.com/you_go_girl/2008/04/bird-brain.html

As for those ducks…Perhaps there is L-O-V-E in the air at Thimbleanna land. Just saying…

And finally…the bunny in the bag. He can’t breathe in there. Mr. Cupcakes was almost blue by the time he arrived in Montana. Really. Maybe you could put a few air holes in the bag. I’d hate for a bunny-cide to be on your conscience, especially this time of year…it being Easter and all. Just looking out for you, Anna.

  18. That is one cute zipper bag. Love it!! Lucky Catherine. I love when you do your embroidery. It’s always soooo dang cute.

  19. ANNA! DO NOT scare me like that…whew. I had to get my reading glasses to see what it said I had to do…I thought I had blown it lol!!! Bunnykins wants to come live with me you know, it would be such a shame to disappoint him. I love the little sewing bag you made, perfect for take alongs. Your ducks are too cute…we used to have a pair of ducks as pets they mate for life and are so sweet together :)

  20. I love your cute little sewing bag, keeps everything neat and so sweet to look at. Yay for warm sunny weather, have a great Happy Easter weekend Anna!

  21. I love the duckcouple! I bet you thought your days of hosting sleepovers were over… Have a wonderful Easter weekend my friend, fingers crossed for some sunshine and smiles

  22. What a sweet duck couple. It’s always fun to have visitors, isn’t it?

    Cute bag and goodies.

I think that bunny want to come live with me. He’s packed his bags and is ready to move in….with me.

    Jody

  23. Now that’s a cute bag and you sure put some nice sewing goodies in it. I especially like the foil wrapped ones.

  24. Spring has finally arrived here too. I remember doing flat Stanley…In fact DH had his picture taken with flat Stanley the last time we were in Minnesota. The couple thought he looked like an authentic Minnesotan. I’m not sure what one really looks like but she thought he did.
    Have a wonderful Easter Anna.

  25. You’re so talented; that bag is darling, pretty fabric and it’s personalized no less.

Yeah, don’t usually think about coyotes back East. They’re crafty though. I think I’ve read that they’ve been seen in New York City. Our town is small but they come right in to town, especially on the bike trail right near our house. I’m always glad that our kitty is too fat and lazy to venture out much because I don’t want her to become a coyote snack.

  26. I think scales are much easier than cups because you don’t have to keep washing the cups. You can just put the mixing bowl on the weighing bit and put things in it as you cook.

Our son made Melting Moments in nursery school but couldn’t remember what they were called, so called the Waiting Melties. So that’s what they are to us.

I want the bunny of course…

  27. I love ducks too.. although the ducks I been callin’ ducks for years were actually GEESE.. now you would think after feeding them, and saying ‘here duckie duckie duckie’ they’d let me in on this fact, but NOOOO they let me keep calling them ducks and enjoyed the tasty morsels (aka bread) I fed them…
Autumn has arrived in australia, well ok, not really autumn, as it was 32C this past week (32C =95F) but it has been cool at night, and that counts doesn’t it??? I actually had to put a blankey on the other night it was that cold.. only 6 weeks to winter and I am thinking its not going to be cold.. I might have to drag out my winter wardrobe (aka cardigan)…

take care and happy chocolate day to you…

    Lissa

  28. What a lovely little bag! The bunny is very cute and very relevant this weekend. I once had a Flat Stanley to stay from the US. He went all over Dundee with me, a colleague’s husband took him to the local Royal Airforce Base for a picture with planes, I then got friends to take him to Thailand and New Zealand and I can’t remember where else – somewhere in Europe before he returned to the States – he was pretty well travelled. But having looked at the Flat Stanley website I see that he’s been to Space, on the set of ER and Friends…….

  29. My fingers and toes are all crossed…I have Howie and Zack crossing there paws too! I’m so excited that the duck couple came back for a visit. Maybe this will be the year they decide to stay. Love the bag…you make the BEST bags!
