Ugly Socks

Yipee! It’s Friday! And as promised I’m back with some ugliness. I finished a pair of socks early in the week and I’m SO disappointed with the result.

Thimbleanna: Ugly Socks

I used the Snake Skin Sock pattern that I’ve used before (I love it in the red!) and the yarn is called Happy Feet by Plymouth Yarn Company.  The colors had so much promise — a pretty aqua and yellow with a blue-ish red and gray-ish blue (which is apparently where it all went wrong).

But when knit together they became one big muddy mess.  Sort of a purple-ish looking thing.  Not. A. Fan.  I tried everything to make them look prettier.  Posing with a pumpkin.

Even with a matching zinnia — one of the few I had this year.  But it’s a No. Go.  Yuck.  I don’t like them Sam I am.

They’re so ugly though, that the skeletons seem to love them.  The skeletons are begging me to let them take the Ugly Socks to storage with them until next Halloween.  Apparently it gets cold in that box in the attic.

It might be a good solution — then I won’t have to look at them!

Well, Happy November! I hope you’re getting rested up ’cause you KNOW what’s just around the bend!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. They’re not that bad, Anna. You could wear them with wellies then you won’t have to look at them but they’ll still keep your tootsies warm – and dry! :o)

  2. I think they are lovely—maybe not what you thought they would be, but beautiful and cheerful in their own right. (And I would not let those skeletons have them—I am still not convinced that they didn’t swipe the sheepie sock.) This has nothing to do with your socks, but I work in my LYS, and we are having a knit-along for these mittens this month:

I have made two pairs so far, and I think the world would be a better place if everyone at least tried them. If our Midwest winter is a dire as is being predicted, we will all need lots and LOTS of mittens.

  3. I really like them with the zinnia!
I can see why you don’t like them though, but they would be great to take to the gym, you likely will loose one of them there anyway…

  4. Ha ha….those are not UGLY…. They will probably be one of your most loved pairs…just because they are “ugly”… Love them a little bit more…:0)) happy feet are warm feet…so enjoy them !! HUGS…;0)))

  5. Um, I really like them! What matters is how you feel. It’s always disappointing to spend time, money, and effort and not be happy with the results. :(

Anyway, how COOL are those skeletons???!!! WHere did you get those adorable guys??!!

  6. I recognized that color way the minute I saw it! I made some socks out of it and had the same results. I don’t think it matters what pattern you use, they are going to turn out the same. I made a generic, plain old pair and they looked the same way. At least they keep your feet warm!

  7. So funny Anna. Don’t you hate it when the yarn dissapoints. I just finished a pair for my daughter (with some very expensive yarn, I might add) that looks so totally different than we pictured it in our heads. All I can say is “Wear them under long pants.”

  8. You don’t have to wear them. Take them to the gym and use one of them to hang over the sensor thingie on the toilet. Then you won’t want to cry if you forget it. Personally I am so impressed with anyone who can knit socks. I think they’re pretty. Or at least colorful. Probably warm, too.

  9. Well they look warm and no one would see them in boots! Got my project down btw…at least the top so keep an eye on IG

  10. They’re really not ugly socks….just a lively and interesting colourway :) hide them in your boots and then you won’t have to see them!

I love your tiny skeletons in your blog header, especially the little guy having a drink…although I did wonder where I was at first :)

I like the colors. But I know how it is when you have a specific look in mind and it just doesn’t quite come up to your standard or want. I would love to knit socks, so I intend to take a class this winter. Wish me luck!

  12. never mind the socks I’m loving the skeletons reminds me of the borrowers for some strange reason!

  13. I don’t think they are “Happy feet” socks anymore, since you’ve talked them down Anna! :) But I like them, they are so ugly that it makes them cute!! LOL

And I admire you for finishing them both and for your effort to try to make them pretty by posing with a pretty flower and a cute pumpkin! :)
