The End of the Weekend

{Sigh} Another weekend is over. Why do they always fly by so quickly? Did you have a good one? Mine was pretty quiet. CuteNiece2 turned 18 so I went to her Hot Yoga class on her birthday with the other girls in the family. I’d been avoiding hot yoga like the plague, but it wasn’t so bad and CuteNiece2 is a great teacher.

I also did a bit of sewing — I even dusted off Hester’s embroidery parts and made some seasonal breadcloths for a friend. It took me three times as long as it should have — boy, am I ever rusty!

Thimbleanna: Breadcloths

In between working on the breadcloths, I decided it was time to clean up the mess I’ve made in other parts of the house. Since I started the Aunts’ Quilt, most horizontal surfaces in the house have been covered with fabric. The dining room table, the kitchen table, the couch . . . I make a big mess while I’m making choices for all those little flowers.

Part of the problem has been dragging the fabrics from room to room, so I decided I needed a helper. Can you tell what it is?

Thimbleanna: Ikea Cart

If you guessed one of those little Ikea carts, you’re right. I know you’re used to seeing them in aqua in blogland, but I decided to get the cream colored one. The trays are the perfect width for the way I fold my fat quarters.

Hopefully, after the current block I’m sewing, I can narrow my fabric choices. That way I’ll have room for the actual block and scissors and thread in the top tray.

So, that was the weekend — I’m pretty sure you don’t want to hear about the cooking and cleaning and more boring stuff. I hope your weekend was fun — and have a great start to your week!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. I’ve never heard of hot yoga but it doesn’t sound appealing. Zumba is quite sweaty enough for me.

Don’t do that to me! Anna gets a wee trolley from Ikea and I think, oh, if that’s what Anna does then I should do it too (being a slavish follower of Anna’s advice). But I don’t really have anywhere to keep a wee trolley. So my (quite large, now) stash will have to stay in the spare room cupboard, or spread all over the spare bed when I’m thinking about it. Which I’m going to start doing this week. Once the dreaded Piano Lesson of Doom is over.

    Have a good week!

  2. Happy Monday! I love the cart idea, I have the same problem with spreading fabric around.. Let us know how the cart works out for you!

  3. For a moment I can’t even think what we did this weekend! lol! Thanks for the mention on the previous post! I am the same way when I start my Aunt’s Quilt appliqué block! Hoping to finish mine on the deadline… I think everyone need to own a Raskog!

  4. I have not heard of hot yoga before….though I have a feeling I wouldn’t be very good at it :)

  5. Those embroidered wreaths are so gorgeous!! I’d never heard of breadcloths, I guess they’re for wrapping loaves of bread in, now I want wrap my bread up in fabric too. Love your little trolley. The before and after photos of your fabrics made me laugh. It’s amazing how much mess you can make whilst looking for the right little piece.

  6. I LOVE your cart, what a great idea, I think I’m going to have to get me one too! I’ve already found it on the icelandic ikea site :)

I’ve never tried hot yoga. It’s like everyone except me has tried it… even my father, the trucker!! LOL

Your breadcloths look so nice, you’ve got a lucky friend ;)

  7. I LIKE that cart. Don’t need it, but sure do like it.I use one of those folding laundry dryer racks when I am doing string piecing and things like that. It helps, but I still make a terrific mess. I do understand about having to find exactly the right piece of fabric. ;)
Looks like you got a lot accomplished over the weekend.

  8. Dear Anna,
I hope your year starts well.
I had to take a time off, but now I am back ro enjoy the creativity of the Blogging world, and to enjoy my own creativity, wich was hidden the last year.
    A happy year to you,
    Janine

  9. Oh those bread cloths are so cool! I have an aqua cart next to my sewing table and full of all sorts things that arrive in this house by mail and need to go somewhere besides living on the dining room table. I actually went back and bought a second as yet unassembled for the guest room to capture toys and books that belong to little people who come and go. Their things could live in the closet if it wasn’t full of my stash (to be honest, stash overflow) lol! And if you figure out where the weekends go please let me know!!!

  10. oh how perfect Anna! and wow! i just entered giveaway at crazymom…and i was almost #800 comment!!

  11. I love those breadcloths Anna, especially the Thanksgiving one with those lovely autumnal colours :)

I’ve been coveting everyone’s Ikea carts too and although my favourite colour is turquoise I love your little cream trolley, especially with all those beautifully folded fat quarters! Of course, if I bought a trolley I’d have to buy some fabric to go with it….
