Monsters

Holy Cow!  Can any of you explain where this month is going?  We’re almost half-way through the month already.  How depressing — I have a bunch of Halloween projects I’d like to do and there’s no way I’ll get to them.  Maybe I should just throw in the towel and move on to C-C-C-nope, I just can’t say it.  Sadly, I guess I’ll just wrap some of those UFOs back up until next year.  I wish I could remember how many years I’ve  unpacked them, missed the deadline and then packed them back up.  ???  It’s a sickness!

I meant to post last night but I was busy making a few Halloween snacks.  Our public school system has a voluntary tutoring program where they partner with local businesses that provide tutors.  Once a week they bus kids to our workplace and we have an hour to work with them.  Today was my day to bring snacks.

Monster Cookies

Fortunately, the awesome Rachel at OnePrettyThing posted these Rice Krispy Monster Cookies from Woman’s Day last week.  I had started to wonder what I would bring for my snack day and when I saw these, I knew they were perfect.

Monster Cookies

If you remember, I’ve mentioned here before that Rice Krispy snacks are one of my all time favorites.  And smear icing all over them?  H.E.A.V.E.N!  Mmm…mmmm.  They were yummy.

Monster Cookies

I have the cutest little guy for my study partner.  We always get our snacks right after the children arrive and then we study while we snack.  The snacks are usually healthy, but we agreed that once a month, we’d relax the rules a little and have something a little more fun.  It was really fun watching my little guy munch on his monster while he read me his homework about Christopher Columbus.

Monster Cookies

If you have a Halloween snack need this month, these are really fun and easy.  They’re a little unruly though.  They squirm a lot when being stuffed into their little bags — you have to be careful … if you bump their scar, they bleed all over.  And we had one escapee.  I put them in the refrigerator last night and apparently he jumped out.  We found him tucked into the back of the fridge when we got home last night.  He only avoided his demise an extra few hours.  ;-)

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Yay! I’m the first person to comment tonight. That’s something considering I haven’t visited blogdom more than an hour or so for the past two months. Those treats are so cute. I agree with you that it’s hard to rice crispy treats, let alone with frosting:)

  2. Haha, I know what you mean about those seasonal projects – I just pulled out an adorable kit for felt ornaments (for the C-word) that I got last year and didn’t touch. Of course, I already ordered this year’s set so now I have lots to do!! The monsters are adorable – that would go over great with youngest boy’s cub scout pack I bet!! I should do it. (and what a neat tutoring program)

  3. Those monsters are so cute! I love rice krispie treats, too. That’s wonderful that your company participates in the tutoring program. It sounds fun and must be satisfying working with the little ones.

  4. Do you have a special lab in your basement for making these monsters?? Better be careful…
But they’re really too cute to be scary!

  5. I have absolutely NO IDEA where October has gone!!! I’m so behind and I can’t catch up so I’m not even going to try!!! I have my mom’s sister coming from New Zealand in a week and I’ve got a lot to get ready blah blah blah. I’m tired. I’m going to bed and doing a Scarlett!

The treats are clever and look really yummy!!! If I get the chance I’ll have to give them a try.

  6. Holy Cow is right! (psst. header) ;o) LOLOL Those are ADORABLE !!!! I have too many treats on my list already for this month! I think I will print a picture off and put in my inspiration binder for next year! They are so cool! ;o)

  7. Those are brilliant! And what a lovely idea to bring the children to your workplace. Over here they’d never be allowed to do this – there’s been a huge kerfuffle recently about the screening and vetting volunteers who work with children have to go through. It doesn’t make any difference to me as I’ve already been screened to go into school but I think they’d have kittens over a sensible scheme like yours!

  8. Those are too cute! Maybe I’ll make a few for Halloween treats. Thanks for posting. I think that I have Woman’s Day mag too!

  9. Adorable monsters….who would have thought those words could work together?!? I love them and may have to find a reason to make some. Surely my kids classes will need halloween snacks…..

  10. Those are toooooooo cute! Rice Krispie Treats are my all time favorite in the world snack. I was raised in Battle Creek and my entire family worked at Kelloggs, ergo, Rice Krispie Treats run through my veins.

Our public school system here has a rule that any snacks brought in cannot be homemade, they have to be store bought. Something to do with health issues. Of course, the store bought ones are full of preservatives and other “junk”. Sad.

  11. Didn’t you get the memo about plastic bags? Never, ever, ever, put a plastic bag on your head. Mr. Cupcakes wants to make sure you get this message. He says he was in serious peril by the time he arrived at my house thanks to a plastic bag. Those poor monsters. LOL!

Too cute, Anna. I love Rice Krispy treats, especially with a few extra marshies thrown in for good measure. I seldom make them because I can’t stop until the pan is entirely gone. Then I feel yucky and my pants get too tight.

    XOXO-
    Cassie

  12. Super cute snacks, Anna. I recently made some RKT with butterscotch chips…they were pretty good. I got a real kick out of the sweet packaging, too. No wonder you don’t have your Halloween sewing done yet ;0)

    Love,
    Amy

  13. You and Kim are just alike. You don’t do anything half way. You do things so perfectly. If I didn’t love you both so much I’d be more jealous. These are so incredibly darling with so much personality. During the wedding as I was doing things I kept thinking of your wedding and how wonderful it all was down to the last detail. You helped push me a little.

  14. No Way, these are adorable! Gonna make these and take em to school for the grown ups:)) Thanks for the link and idea! Love love rice crispy treats, did you know they are VERY low in fat :)

  15. Finally have a little while to check my favorite blogs! Loved the banana seat bike photos! They were full of wonderful colors!! And the latest post’s treat looks wonderful! :)

  16. I totally understand the misfortune of packing up the seasonal UFOs, I too feel like things are creeping up on me, so I just resisted beginning some of them, and went right to the Christmas…lol I’ll be packing in a couple of months too.

  17. You are SO funny! I love reading your posts because you’re such a good storyteller. Escapee. hehehe. Yeah, he wouldn’t last long in my house either. Adorable treats. I’m looking for something easy and transportable to make for my students. If I can get my husband to make the actual RK squares, it’s a go!

  18. Oh Anna, those snacks are just so cute, all that work too, love how you present them, I think my Ali will enjoy looking at these and maybe she’ll make some with her 3!

  19. Oh Anna, how cute. I love rice krispie treats and those are just to darn cute. I didn’t know you tutored…..and all these years you could have been tutoring me lol

  20. Anna those are the cutest darn things. I love them. Of course you make them look all cute tied up in the little bags. You just have that touch.

  21. Don’t you dare say the C-word yet! And you know which C-word I’m talking about, too, because, as it happens, the *other* C-word (the four letter one) doesn’t bother me NEAR as much as the…um…lemme count them…NINE letter one does.

    So you know.

Meanwhile, your cookie monsters (hehe) are really cute and if I could pass a holiday themed treat off in my house, I would. But I can’t because we’re scrooges. ‘Specially Bubba.

  22. Dear Anna
    These Frankenstein- Cake is great.
Tomorrow I will do some Halloween- cocking with the children in my youthcenter.
I will be something like that.
    Have a nice day
    Janine

  23. Not only do I applaud the adorable snacks you made, but I’m impressed about the program you’re participating in with the kids. You’re such a good soul!

  24. Those are amazing. Leave it to you to create something really great. How do you find the time? I spent the weekend at Disneyland. 10 hour drive, at least, one way…two days at Disneyland…10 hours back. Crazy! The park was wall to wall people, most of them from Utah for Fall break. We had fun anyway even with a two year old.

  25. oh how cute!!! I have to save a copy for next year to try and remember for my daughter’s classroom at school ;) You are so creative, thanks for sharing!

    Love from Texas! ~bonnie
