Market Report: The Fabric

Shoot! I meant to post before now. I just can’t seem to get caught up around here. Plus, we had a very busy weekend last weekend. I spent one day with the family cleaning up leaves at MeMum and BigDaddy’s house and the other day sewing with the quilty peeps.  I was working on the Ghastlies.  ‘Cause, of course, I didn’t get them done by Halloween and I don’t want them being a UFO until next Halloween.

Junie finished up an adorable quilt that she made for a new baby in her extended family.  She said it’s a Moda Bakeshop pattern, but I’m too lazy to look up the link for you.  I love the little surfing monkey and the baby’s name on the quilt.  (Sorry for the dark photos — it was pretty late in the afternoon by the time I remembered to take pictures.)

Junie Project

Gurney was working on this very pretty Crabapple Hill snowman pillow.  I have this pattern in my stash and hope to make it someday.  Gurney is a wonderful embroiderer.

Gurney Project

And Jewels (the hostess with the mostest) worked on her cute little dresden plates.  They’re pretty small and very perfect.  They’re all hand-pieced and Jewels is the master.  I love them!

Jewels Project

Ok, so here’s my market fabric report.  Once again, I bought WAY too much fabric.  At least it was less than last time, but still.  I blame it on the excitement of the Sample Spree Moment.   In the back of this picture is Sunkissed by Sweetwater,  Anna Griffin’s new line is in the foreground, and to the right is the only fat quarter stack that I was really there for — Sherbert Pips by Aneela Hoey.  CrazyMom has a picture of the prints all spread out — I can’t bring myself to take my cute stack apart.  I love those pips, but I’m 100% positive that CrazyMom will have something done with her pips before I do, ’cause she actually uses her fabric!

Houston Fabric

Then, I was innocently wandering past the Lecein booth and I spotted this adorable Little Red Riding Hood pack.  I couldn’t help myself.  I probably won’t be able to cut into this fabric either.

Houston Fabric

And last, but not least, The Cat in the Hat.  My new fabric obsession.  I want to buy it by the bolt.  C’mon now — how can you resist Thing1 and Thing2 all over their own piece of fabric???  Just imagine the pillowcases, BOXERS, quilt backs, and more.  Can you blame me???

Houston Fabric

Since I’ve spent all day in the dungeon cleaning out fabric and junk (new furnace coming next week so cabinets have to be moved) I’m thinking all this new fabric really wasn’t necessary.  On the other hand, I have lots of stuff heading to Goodwill now, so I have new room to stock up!

Have a great weekend!
XOXO,
Anna

  1. OMG, I want Sunkissed! Can’t wait, don’t know what I’ll make, but something will come to me.

Love those dresden plates with the 8 pieces and small, rounded shape. Does Jewels paper piece them? Someone here would like to make similar.

  2. I can’t wait for sunkissed…and the new Anna Griffin lines too! And that Little Red Riding Hood fabric…wow…that’s the first I’ve seen of it–I wouldn’t be able to cut into it either!

  3. Oh my goodness…I can’t even decide which of your new fabrics I love the most. Really good choices! Those sweet little stacks are irresistible, aren’t they?

  4. Lots of gorgeous fabrics there Anna! I love the Dr. Seuss one too. Love all the quilting photos too, what beautiful projects!

  5. Oh wow…I’m hyperventilating over here and drooling at the same time…it is NOT a pretty sight. I am in serious envy mode :) I would totally not be able to cut into that Red Riding Hood either. All of it is sooo yummy!! Sarah and her best friend were Thing 1 and Thing 2 for Halloween, I’ve got to get those pictures up. Good job at Sample Spree :)

  6. I thought that I was the only person that couldn’t cut into that oh so special fabric. I also bought a fat quarter stack of the Dr Seuss fabric. My 6 year old daughter was with me, can I blame it on her?

  7. Anna I love the Little Red Riding Hood fabric, so cute.
The Dresden Plates are paper pieced, I buy my papers from Paper Pieces in Sycamore, IL(www.paperpieces.com) These plates will fit on a 8 inch square. I will probably be 110 before I ever finish this quilt. I love doing the paper pieces though, very fast and accurate. xoxo

  8. I am so jealous, I already did the Dr. seuss thing (although I’ve got a second one cut out) but that Sunkissed and Sherbet Peeps and Red Riding Hood! So, so cute…I’ll make room if you can’t!

  9. i didn’t finish the ghastlies in time for halloween, either … but i DID get it done this week … and it will be outta here tomorrow when i give it to my sister … cuz she needs it more than i do

your fat quarter bundles are yummy!

  10. Oh yum! Who says that fabric has to be cut up and used after buying it? Definitely not me! I say you did very well at the sample spree. I have my eye on that Dr. Seuss fabric too. My daughter is a brand new first grade teacher; wouldn’t it make a lovely wall hanging for her class room?

  11. That sample spree sounds dangerous! ‘spree’- another coming word used in conjunction with ‘spree’ is ‘spending’- funny that. I love Red Riding hood- she is gorgeous!

  12. It’s almost a sin how much gorgeous fabric the industry is tempting us with each season, isn’t it? I would blush if forced to admit how much of the Dr. Seuess fabric I’ve hoarded…

  13. Love that personalized baby blankie. And all that new fabric….I so know the feeling of wanting a hunk of it (or a bolt). My small-town local fabric shop, The Bakery, just sends me every time I walk in. There’s always something new and wonderful to touch, smell, buy!

    Love the Little Red fabs.

    Jody

  14. Cat in the hat?
    I’ve never seen that!

    (couldn’t resist :)

Perfect dresden plates. Steal some and have a giveaway on your blog, please!!

  15. Hi Anna,
It’s just a really busy time of the year and you are fitting in a lot more posts than me… Love all your fabrics especially the pips,so cute. I have so many memorized Dr Seuss stories, my kids loved them when they were little. Happy Weekend Anna!!! Kohls has some cute little Dr Seuss characters for only $5 if you have one in your area.

  16. Hey Anna! I didn’t make it to sample spree, but I wish I would have gone for at least the sherbet pips! That line is killing me to wait for it!

  17. hey , sorry for being an absent friend – I’m fighting the blahs now …. I must get some Dr Seuss as Milo loves the cat in the hat … maybe make some pyjama bottoms with it .. hope you are having a lovely weekend too x

  18. I feel the very same way about cutting fabric. I have such a deep love for some of them, I just can’t cut them.

I can’t wait to get some of that Cat in the Hat fabric. LOVE…can’t cut…

  19. So much cute stuff in your post! I love Junie’s quilt and the snowman pillow. That Little Red Riding Hood and Dr. Seuss fabric is the best! I want it and I don’t even sew.

  20. Hi Miss Anna! Been missing you!!!
Great fabric finds! I love the little red riding hood too!
I know exactly what you mean about cutting into your fabric….that’s why my Ghastlies are still untouched!!!

  21. What a great post!! I love, love Sunkissed!! My friends call my 30’s fabric “My Shrine”…. I just can’t seem to cut in to them :-)!

  22. Looks like you found yourself a fabric treasure trove!!

There are some fabrics I can’t cut into either!

Cat in the Hat fabric!!! Maybe I should buy some and prepare for whenever I have Grandchildren! lol

  23. That is a sweet baby quilt! And I love seeing all your lovely fabric! The Cat in the Hat fabric looks especially fun, I’m going to have to find some of that for myself. :)

  24. the quilty peeps are sure a talented bunch – great projects, thanks for sharing…but I am still waiting for a picture on your progress of the Ghastlies…(oh, I’m so nosy) :).
O-oh, and serious stash envy over here (well, I try not to, but OMG are they cute!). Can’t wait to see what you’ll do with ‘Sunkissed’…but even more with ‘Sherbet Pips’ (I’ve marked my calender bright red so that I won’t miss out on them…they’re surely a must have).
Hope you’ve still had some time to sew this weekend,
    julia

p.s. I’m not really aquainted with ‘The Cat In The Hat’ books (?) but the fabric seems to be very addictive…

  25. Wish that it was I that have bought all that nice fabric.. especially Sunkissed.. I think it is my kind of fabrics..:O)))
    Lovely Anna!!

  26. love the precious red riding hood fabric … fondled the cat in the hat Friday at the Back Door. Knitting friends & I went to Bloomington Sat for Weavers & Spinners Art Fest then on to the two yarn shops and had a wonderful lunch at an Italian rest. The day did me in, I did shower today but it’s definetly a “sweats day”. New furnace should give you more room and lower gas bills…sounds like more money for the quilting fund. Notice I didn’t say the “B” word (budget-yuck!)
Mike is doing ok, we find out on Nov 22 what the plan is – which I hope is just “wait and watch”. No more chemo for now we hope – to hard on his body & mind. Take care, miss you, do you have any time off for the holidays that you might be south? Would love to do lunch darling…

  27. oh.
    my.
    goooooooosh.
cat. in. the. hat. i too, am in love. i’ve been planning and replanning my cat in the hat quilt.
did you get the dungeon cleaned out?
be sure to donate it to good will instead of sending it off to unsuspecting friends.
i love all of the fabric you got.
okay, i’m off to visit with the fam.
    heading home in the morning.
    hope your weekend was wonderful.
    :waves madly

  28. Great fabric Anna,
I love the Little Red Riding Hood Fabric- it looks so very cute as does the Cat in the Hat- I am sure you are going to have fun creating some very nice quilty things with your fabrics.
Not too long ago I sent off for a few Kaffe fabrics because a store in Canada had some of his older fabrics for 7 dollars a meter- a really good price for his fabrics here. I am thrilled to find a few more of his pieces to add to my Kaffe box ( I really am trying not to buy more but the Kaffe fabrics were too hard to resist.. that is my story and I am sticking to it LOL
If I didn’t buy fabric, beads and books who knows how much money I might save…
Thanks for sharing your lovely finds at the Market.
    Warmest regards,
    Anna

  29. I too have that Crabapple embroidery but I haven’t done it yet either. What a haul! I myself do not like Dr. Suess but I would like to make pillowcases for Amelia for Christmas out of it. One of the local stores in my area has bolts. I’ll have to pick some up next time I’m there.

  30. FABULOUS fabric choices! Just gotta love Dr. Suess…touch it every time I go into my LQS and one of these days will come home with some. I love reading your market reports; makes me feel like I was there.

  31. OK, so who doesn’t LOVE Sherbet Pips? Adorable, then I scroll down and see the Red riding hood fabric you scored. When will this be available to the public? I LOVE it!! Honestly how can you not buy thing 1 and thing 2?

  32. Thank you for all of your sweet comments lately and for taking some of my pips home to live with you!
I am sure they will be very happy living on your fabric shelf with all these other beauties you bought. Hope to see you take a deep breath and open up those bundles soon!!

  33. I think we were pretty controlled really – 3 stacks (plus the Red Riding Hood!) isn’t THAT BAD!!! Still waiting for mine….in the post somewhere between here and Houston…..so I’ll just keep your post up on my computer and admire yours!

  34. I so love those dresden plates. Sigh! Gorgeous fabrics as well…we have a quilting fabric store here and I don’t really trust myself to go in there. So glad this is a short workweek for me – can’t wait to have a few days off. I have been working way too much and not doing fun stuff lately. Have a great week…I think American thanksgiving is coming up soon…I am certain someone’s post out there will remind which day it is :) I have a birthday this Sunday so for me, Christmas officially starts the day after.

  35. Great projects. I love that Cat in the Hat fabric too.

Your Jewels’ dresden plates are adorable. I’ll have to try that project one day.

  36. ok, so you bought the cat in the hat fabric bundles and you are still obsessing over it? what am i missing?

(you can totally ignore my comment if you want. after all, i do silly things like make gingham just for fun. :) )
