Lorna Strikes Again

Awww, thanks for all your sweet comments about BigDaddy.  You are all so kind and it’s very much appreciated.  We’re trying hard to find our new normal, although, we’ve been so busy, we’re not even close to being there yet.  TheManoftheHouse had been scheduled for a knee replacement surgery right around the time that BigDaddy passed away, and it had to be postponed.  He was put on a cancellation list, and they called him in two weeks ago.  Everything has gone very well (but what an uhhhgly surgery that is — lots of pain and rehab!) and he came home from the rehab hospital a few days ago.  I think it’s safe to say, I’ve had my fill of hospitals for this year!

As you might imagine, all that hospital time allowed for lots of time for handwork.  I finished a pair of socks.

Thimbleanna: Fugly Socks

I’m officially naming these the Fugly Socks.  Oh the FUGLY.  I seem to have a penchant for picking yarns that have somewhat pretty colors, but then they knit up to become butt. ugly.  (It’s happened before.)  See?  Look.  These colors — blue, green, gold, pink, and purple.  Is that sooo bad?

Thimbleanna: Fugly Socks

Apparently yes, because … Fugly.  Experienced knitters can probably tell me right away who made this yarn.  Here’s a hint:  Notice the pooling.  When the colors pool together, it’s just not pretty.  The yarn is Lorna’s Laces and although I think they’ve solved the pooling problem (these were ok) in their more recent yarns, apparently I have some of their older yarns still in my stash .

Thimbleanna: Fugly Socks

Once again, I used my old favorite Mockery Socks pattern (free Ravelry download here) with an eye of the partridge heel.  It’s so easy and I needed easy knitting this time around.  I have quite a few pairs of Mockery Socks by now — I really need to be a little more adventurous with the pattern next time.

Thimbleanna: Fugly Socks

It’s nice to have a finish. I’m working on a few other projects, but I can’t really show them yet — they’re surprises!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. nice to have hand work of some kind with you when you are at the hospital – I hope no more hospitals for you this year!!

  2. Sometimes having handwork does save the day. Anytime you knit a pair of socks that you think are ugly, you can send them to me! ???? I love handknit socks and I barely have dishcloth knitting skills! You do beautiful work.

  3. Lovely socks and no doubt they’ll keep your feet warm whether you think they are ugly or not. Poor ManoftheHouse! My hubby had his knee done about half a year ago and he’s finally turned a corner about two month ago. It is a big operation which needs a lot of patients but it was worth it as he can now walk for hours without any pain.

  4. I’ve done LOTS of crocheting in waiting rooms. It does help to have something to keep your hands busy. I like your socks. But then, I spend a lot of time in socks, since I don’t like shoes. ;)

  5. I hope TheManoftheHouse’s knee feels better soon and, yes, that’s enough of hospitals for you for a long time! The socks look absolutely fine to me – at least they’ll keep your tootsies cosy! :o)

  6. One of my quilty friends has had both knees done in the last six months ……. and she is probably old enough to be The ManofTheHouse’s Mum!! I’ve just been over to Ravelry and downloaded the sock pattern – I may even get round to knitting a pair!!
Looking forward to seeing what else you have been up to!

  7. I think those are gorgeous socks not ugly! Hears hoping no more hospitals any time soon. Wishing the man of the house a speedy recovery xx

  8. Love these socks…wish I could make them!! I know just what you mean about having some handwork on the go while waiting in hospitals…it really does help a lot. Your poor hb having to go through that operation…hope he will soon feel better. And I hope you can have a break from medical matters now…

  9. Time for good things ahead! Hopefully the only hospital visit you’ll make again this year is for the new baby! I hate it when yarn does that but I like your socks.

  10. Hope TheManOfTheHouse continues his good recovery. Your socks will keep your feet warm – and that’s the main thing, huh??!! I actually think they’re ok.

  11. Hope your hospital days are behind you for now! And that your DH is starting to feel a lot better and get around too. Bet your secret projects have to do with baby girl! Hugs!

  12. Hmm, interesting: you’re right, I think, that the yarn looks prettier than the socks, though you’ve knitted them so beautifully that they’re lovely too.

You’re really going through the mill, aren’t you? Big hugs. Hope DH’s recovery goes well and that spring brings better things. (And it will specially bring one tiny better thing!)

  13. Oh Anna! You crack me up! The Fugly socks!! So funny! They may not be what you expected but they are delightful. And beautifully done! And by the way – Happy Pi Day! I always think of you on Pi Fay. Soon you can be out enjoying beautiful spring weather again and put this past winter to rest.

  14. anna! they’re gorgeous!!! i guess i have bad taste in colors bc i would wear those in a heart beat! i’m serious….they’re gorgeous!!

i hope the pain is soon gone for your hubby. take care of yourself and keep knitting. ;p

  15. oh my.
my thought is that god was punishing you for choosing jewel tones, but what do i know?

  16. Hum …. I must have fugly taste because I like those socks and the yarn. You can always send them my way. I’ll appreciate them and wear them proudly. Glad things are settling a bit for you. I must say, it has been a challenging year so far for you. Do take good care of yourself. Hugs!
