Knitting Happened Here

Well, what the hay??? It’s been 10 days since Halloween already. How. Does. That. Happen? We’re in the middle of November already. And before we move on can we just discuss this Halloween thing? We only had one trick-or-treater. One. (At least he was adorable — a little 5 year old pirate!) What’s up with the kids these days? Granted, it was a little drizzly out there, but we had chocolate! Are the kids just lazy these days??? When we were kids, NOTHING got in the way of us and our trick-or-treating! We couldn’t wait to get out there with our pillowcases and get them filled up.  The real fun happened when we got home and dumped that candy all over the floor — that’s when the bartering started. Is it because parents are doing a better job of raising healthy kids these days? And they’d rather eat broccoli than chocolate???

Ok, so in the middle of all my pondering, I actually finished a knit. A few weeks ago my buddy Brigette became a first time Grandma! It’s all very exciting and I’m so happy for her. Her daughter had a bouncing baby boy, so I had to make him a little sweater and beanie.

I made them to hopefully fit a 6-month size, although it’s probably more like a 3-month size. How would I know — I need a baby around here to try one on LOL. I’m a little worried that the neck will be too small when he gets big enough to fit into the body — you know how babies’ heads are bigger compared to their bodies. Anyway, for you knitters, the little sweater is from the Baby Pullover from Knitting Pure and Simple and the Beanie is the Rolled Brim Baby Hat with a Topknot by Laurie Longinotti.  Congratulations Brigette!!!

In other news … ;-D … new fabric in my little etsy shop.  The Bright Sun Pebbles in Bisque by Sheri and Chelsi have arrived.  I love that they’re a low volume fabric and I think they’ll make a perfect background for applique quilts.  Or anything that screams for a subtle polka dot.

And finally, if you’re not a rabid anglophile (like some of us LOL) you may have missed the 2015 John Lewis Christmas ad. Bring your kleenex.

XOXO,
Anna

  1. I watched it several times….sweetly sad for sure and a message we all need to remember not just at Christmas. Btw I made the cutest craft today for my little grands. Will show it off over weekend. My duh helped play with felt too! Hugs!

  2. Oh, I love it all. The knitting, the other knitting, the flowers, and the ad! I will post that on my husband’s Facebook feed so he will cry at work ;)

  3. anna, we only got a dozen trick or treaters. parents are so over protective these days so kids go to arranged ‘trunk of treat’ (boring) gatherings and the MALL???!!! the mall??!! in doors and kids walk from store to store to get candy. ugh. i live in a lovely old neighborhood. it’s safe, parents! it’s safe!

  4. If that isn’t just the CUTEST, sweetest little knit sweater and cap!!! lucky little babe! I could go for a hat like that for myself! Sweet! And I have to agree with you on the trick or treaters. We hardly had any. Keeps getting fewer and fewer. Oh well… Onward to Thanksgiving now!

  5. Love the sweater and beanie… So cute. I really haven’t taken to this year’s JL advert. The idea is to highlight the plight of the lonely and elderly but who the heck left that poor guy up there in the first place!

  6. oh that advert was adorable but not as adorable as the SWEATER & BEANIE that you made for my BABY!!!!!!!
Thanks Anna. I just adore you.
your applique flowers are perfect and the dots are a GREAT background fabric.
    thanks again!!! you’re my fave.
    :waves madly

  7. Such a darling little baby hat and sweater! What a cute, well dressed baby he will be :) I made a similar hat for my youngest grandbaby and have just had a request for another the next size up! Your applique flowers and dots are just gorgeous!

  8. Awwww that ad really did bring a tear to my eye. I laughed at the idea of modern trick or treaters staying home to eat brocolli. Your sweater and beanie are the sweetest, they keep a little someone cosy and warm.

  9. Such a cute baby sweater and beanie! Yes John Lewis ads are always worth a tear or two, although always slightly on the schmaltzy side ;)!

  10. The knitted sweater and hat are so sweet. I made a little sweater for my andrew when he was 9mos old. Hand knits are adorable on little ones.
What a wonderful video! at my little store they have a “secret senior” program last year I picked 2, this year we’re doing 4. Their Christmas wishes are so simple and sweet.

  11. You are such a good knitter friend. What an adorable little boy sweater and hat. Lucky lil fella.

Love the advertisement. It makes me think and tugs at my heart.

  12. Note to self: stop being so busy and right a letter to Anna!
Dearest Anna, your baby knit is so pretty, it makes me want the 5th! Thank you for the Kleenex warnig, I love the ad! And your new blog header, WOW!
I’ll send you a privat message over the weekend, until then xoxo ????

  13. Your knitting is beautiful but the J Lewis advert is so depressing! Now the old man has a telescope to allow him to see what he’s missing. Big deal…

  14. We don’t celerate Halloween, but Sint Maarten on November 11th. This year not one child rang the bell to to ask for sweets…
Love your sweet little sweater and beanie!
