Just Waiting Around

Wow! Thanks for all the nine-patch love! You guys are the best!

Well? How’s it going out there?
Tick. Tock.
Tick. Tock.
Time’s Slipping Away.

Red 'n Green

I’ve just been sitting around thinking. Surrounding myself with books and ideas, just waiting for lightning to strike. I want ideas to fall in my lap! I feel like I should be working on something, because I know when the big pinch comes, I’ll wish I’d started earlier.

Red 'n Green

It’s like having restless leg syndrome. All jittery here. Afraid to buy a gift — what if something I like better comes along? Afraid to start a project, ’cause if I don’t get it done by Christmas it will be destined for the UFO pile. And it’s hard to judge how long it will take, ’cause that lightning could strike any minute and I’d be off in another direction.

Red 'n Green

Oh, the indecision! How ’bout you? How are your legs???

XOXO,
Anna

  1. My legs are about the same. However, I have to get one done soon and I haven’t started yet. Egads!! To find the time. Maybe I better go with the Crazy Mom and Red Pepper theory… NO sleep!

  2. Well, heck. I still have a quilt to finish from last Christmas! What does that say about me? lol
This Christmas is destined to be a repeat. I find things I want to make and then something else comes along and I want to make it and then…..as if this was the last Christmas on earth. Gee whiz, I just need to plow ahead and create a file for next year! But, then, I’m sure something cuter will be there taunting me in my prideful organization. Ack! Procrastination is my middle name and “no rest for the weary” is my motto. ;)

  3. It’s full speed ahead over here! Our “Christmas” starts at Thanksgiving, so I’ve already finished a few gifts. I should be done with the shopping part this weekend (except candy and oranges).

  4. I’m getting jittery, too! I started knitting some slippers for my mom this evening, but I have this feeling I’m not going to have enough time to make all of the gifts that I want to. I did start buying a few things, and it felt good to get started.

  5. Indecision, me??? I’m starting to think I really should not knit gifts. I’m over-thinking everything. Finally got dad’s scarf done after trying FOUR different yarns. Ordered some rather pricey yarn for the socks my mom asked for and have now decided it’s not quite right either. Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

ps, Love the colors in that bottom fabric picture!!!

  6. How many different shades of red and green thread are there? Crikey!

I’m busy finishing off WIPs, and resolving only to spend time making stuff for people who will appreciate it – that should significantly cut down my to do list!

  7. I’ve bought a few things and made a few things….mostly for the same 2 year old!! Now that’s a problem…..need to buy gifts for more than just one person!

  8. I’ve been concentrating on Hampton’s birthday…Nov 25th…I better get going on Christmas…we’ll blink and it will be here.

  9. Your photographs are so beautiful today! Feeling restless because my brother decided to get married on Dec. 5, so there’s another present to buy/make plus it adds a couple more people that I need Christmas presents for! Other than that, I’m done with most of the buying and making for Christmas!

  10. Your pictures are so pretty Anna, what is the fabric in the last pic, I love it. I had that feeling yesterday and started a table runner with Merry and Bright (Sandy Gervais) that I wanted to make a quilt out of but knew I would never get finished in time. Didn’t even make my bed till 1PM, bad girl!! I’m am definitely easily distracted by Fabric….. I am supposed to be planning my Thanksgiving dinner….. HoHoHo

  11. I DO have RLS. It’s not fun. Thankfully it hasn’t plagued me in a few weeks. I’m sure it’s going to hit me soon.

I too have done NOTHING towards Christmas shopping. Sure I’ve started and completed a few gifts but I’ve done nothing else. I plan on sneaking in a day off next week before Turkey Day and hitting a few stores to get started.

  12. I decided this year to make gifts … and I’m sure I am out of my mind for making that decision since I haven’t even started them. Is that material in your last picture? It is so cute.

  13. I’m getting a little bit jittery. I have actually been good and I started my Christmas projects early. But now… I’m getting nervous about if they will like the gifts, if they will be finished on time, etc…

PS: I would be happy to finish any of your Christmas UFO’s! Hmmm… that might be a good swap.

    Jennifer :)

  14. You just explained why I am a Christmas Eve shopper–something better might come along. Love that fabric with the little Rudolph reindeer. I have purchased some new decor items for Christmas and so glad I didn’t wait. They are almost gone now at Target. And that fabric would be perfect with them.

  15. love your red and green photos today! I’m jittery, but its because I’ve told myself I’m going to get 7 UFOs done before January. 2 down, but they were small ones, 5 quilts including 3 doubles, and 1 twin to go, with 3 of those earmarked as Christmas presents! Where am I? Blogland of course!

  16. I have a HORRIBLE case of restless hand syndrome (and brain freeze)! I have a quilt to finish up and then a whole new one to start on. Then there are the Christmas stockings (well they can wait till next year) but then I have my own Baby room to start with a quilt, curtains & dust ruffle and finish by May! Phew. You can start on those Anna :)

  17. I do this to myself every year thinking there’s time and suddenly it looms, I never learn but I don’t worry too much. If it gets done that’s good if not, off to do some shopping.

  18. My legs were so restless that I did something I haven’t done in many years… I put up the Christmas decorations! I had been in the organizing mood, so I went through all the Christmas decorations… I didn’t want to put them back and then get them out in a week. Thus, I put them up. All except the Christmas tree and its ornaments, of course…
Loved the colorful photos on your post!!

  19. Wobbly, indecisive and not really thinking about Christmas even though I know it really is not that far away. I guess I have been so busy this fall with work and trying to declutter our house. It has been a big job and while we are not done we are done for now if you know what I mean.

Hope you find that project that you are looking for- I need to start teaching my kindergarten students their Christmas song and prepare for student led conferences… ah the job that just keeps on going..
    Happy quilting Anna,
    Hugs,
    Anna

  20. my legs are due a waxing but they can wait til December! I have been doing a lot of thinking and deciding and then not doing anything! Love your gorgeous photos!

  21. My modus operandi is to just do whatever my project makes me excited. If another idea shows up later, I just fit it in my schedule somehow or put it on my to-do list for the future. I keep an Ideas file on my computer to which I add frequently (as in almost daily). Sometimes (like in October or December, for example) I calendar everything and try not to be overwhelmed by all the want-to-do items still on my list.

Life is short, do what makes your heart sing.

  22. Dear Anna, I love that Christmas- fabric.
It has so sweet deers on it and such great colours you simply have to make something out of it.
I´m sure you will have a great idea soon.
    Have a good week
    Janine

  23. RLS all the way, Anna!

I must have written out my gift list 20 times in the last week. And I’m still not happy with it.

    (You’re pictures are SO pretty!)

    XO

  24. i’m scared. LOL. each year the holidays seem to creep up faster and faster. this year is no exception. i was thinking about gift giving this morning while washing dishes….i guess that’s a start, right?

  25. I hate to say it, but that old sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach has already set in, and I blame the malls, the stores, the advertisers, on and on! How is it possible to feel “Joy” when we begin our panic on Halloween instead of the day after Thanksgiving and it goes right through to New Year’s Day? Stop The Madness!

OK, I feel better now, and as soon as Frannie is fast asleep, I’m going to work on some Christmas projects that I started a week ago. Inspiration hit and now I can’t stop!

    S.W.A.K.

P.S. – I agree – you do have wonderful photos!

  26. I know the feeling. Well, not about those presents, ofcourse, but I know the feeling of waiting for inspiration, or better said: having tons of inspiration and being afraid to choose one project, because that would mean other projects would not get chosen..yet. But I don’t worry about that anymore. Recently I started to just do whatever I wanted to start and then finish it, without thinking about other things. And it feels so great!

I hope your restless legs will soon be joyfully running again ;-)

  27. No hsndmade gifts for me this year. Too layzy & too uninspired. I know! there are plenty of ideas out there, but like you … where to start??
I just sneak quietly away, lest the fabrics haul me back…

  28. Let’s see…I’m making aprons for all my girls, these easy and cute little fabric wallets, and necklaces. The necklaces are finished. I’ve done most of my shopping and have already wrapped them. I had to get them out of my sewing room so I could move on to sewing projects. I’ve got to find boxes to do some mailing too.

Decorating takes me a while and I’m planning on doing lots of entertaining.

Have any ideas of presents for the neighbors? I haven’t thought of anything this year. Two years ago, I made “bed buddies” for everyone with a personal letter full of the things I love about them. That took some time but everyone seemed to like it. Last year I bought Christmas music CD’s. I need some inspiration this year or else it is back to making my mom’s English Toffee.

  29. Well…..
I’m making a list. Does that count?
I plan to make a couple sets of covered padded hangers for my SIL’s. I have an embroidered softie doll stitched for the grandangel. I’ll be shopping for my glass icicles soon to give to each of my kids and to attach to a few gifts. I’m still working on Thanksgiving.

  30. That Sherri Berry fabric could not be cuter. As someone that has restless leg syndrome, I so know that feeling. And sometimes I get home from work all ready to do a project in the evening and I end up sitting in my sewing room looking at fabric and not DOING anything. I hate that wasted time feeling. I can so relate.
