I’m Dead, Jim

Continuing with the Star Trekkie comment from the previous post, I think the weekend did me in.  It felt like it was non-stop running and to punctuate how tired I was this morning, I got to work and realized I’d left my computer at home, so I had to come all the way home to get it.  That’s never happened before, so it was a little distressing!
This was the weekend plan:

Saturday:

  • Drive 2 1/2 hours to Dayton, early Saturday morning.
  • Drop TheFirstChild and SweetiePie off at their day long pre-marriage counseling session.
  • Visit potential rehearsal dinner restaurants.
  • Visit The Fabric Shack to pick up fabric for the quilt that we will be tying at SweetiePie’s wedding shower next weekend.
  • Nice relaxing evening of dinner and games with the future in-laws.

Sunday:

  • Nice relaxing morning with possible visit to church where TheFirstChild and SweetiePie will be married.
  • Pack some of SweetiePie’s belongings to bring back home.
  • Bridal shower for SweetiePie in the afternoon.
  • Taste-testing at reception venue at dinner time.
  • Home not later than 10 p.m.

Then….Dayton had a blizzard-thingy on Friday/Saturday.  They declared some sort of snow emergency level so we were advised to stay home for awhile.  It was touch-and-go whether they would cancel Sunday’s bridal shower.

So, this was the weekend reality:

Saturday:

  • Run a few errands with SweetiePie in the morning while making frequent calls to check the snow situation.
  • Visit MeMum for a few games of hand and foot.
  • Visit MyDadLovesMeBestSister to finish up details for next week’s bridal shower.
  • Decide not to go to Dayton today.  Return home at 5 p.m. and decide to clean bedroom level of house with SweetiePie.  That took 5 hours with dinner thrown in.  Feel sorry for SweetiePie — TheFirstChild is a slob.

Sunday:

  • Drive 3 hours to Dayton.
  • Check out one rehearsal venue on the way into town.
  • Drop TheFirstChild off at future in-laws.
  • Go to The Fabric Shack with SweetiePie to pick up fabric.  (Can I just have a little sympathy from you quilters — we blitzed in, got the job done, and blitzed out.  Do you know how hard it is to go there without browsing time?  So sad.)
  • Very lovely bridal shower all afternoon.
  • Leave unfashionably early to run and check out 2 more rehearsal venues.  One closed, one ruled out.
  • Meet group at reception venue for taste-testing.
  • Return to future in-laws at 7:30 p.m. and pack SweetiePie’s things.
  • Make it home at midnight.
Wedding Cake Apron Close Up

We crammed the weekend into one day and now I’m tired.  But it was all fun and mostly successful.  Except for that rehearsal dinner thing.  Woefully unprepared for that.  McDonald’s in formal wear is looking good.

The pictures are of an apron that I made for SweetiePie’s shower.  We make chocolate chip cookies together, so I gave her cookie sheets, spatula, parchment paper, and the mandatory just-right-size ice cream scoop that we use to scoop the cookie dough, along with the apron.  After the shower when SweetiePie showed the apron to TheFirstChild, I commented that it was for Naked Newlywed Cooking Sessions.  To which they both rolled their eyes and said “that’s disgusting.”  Which, I guess, is the appropriate thing to say to your mother.

And, just how was your weekend?

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Oh My and it’s only just beginning! MOB do you have your dress?Love the apron and just try to remember to enjoy every moment and that all of the preparing will be the memories you’ll laugh about in a few years!

  2. Whoa, nelly! Sounds like you had a doozy of a weekend. The apron comment and their reaction to it was hilarious!
Great gift idea, by the way…useful and personal. Just right!

  3. Haha you crack me up. Naked newlywed cooked indeed- I’ll bet you did get a lot of eye-rolling. Hilarious!

When is this weather going to stop messing up life?I had no idea Dayton got dumped on that bad- glad it missed us! Our weekend was fairly low-key, but I did get to scrub encrusted poop off a lamb’s butt Friday night. (we are nothing if not glamorous here on the farm- actually, I just keep telling my husband he’s lucky I have a strong stomach!)

  4. Love the apron! Nothing like kitchen nookie?! Bleck! I like mine to be disinfected and sanitary! I am such a prude. Oh, and I hate snow now. It is official.

  5. The above comment is referencing my kitchen by the way… I like my kitchen sanitary… well nevermind! I am just digging a deeper hole now.

  6. OMG, you had me really belly-laughing, practically rolling on the floor with your post. I’m still wiping the tears. LOL! And don’t worry about the eye-rolling. You’ve planted the idea into their heads now. Hilarious! The apron is very cute. And we had a great weekend, thanks. :-)

  7. That apron is adorable! I love the fabric…and the comment and response too funny! I’m envious that you can drive to the Fabric Shack they always seem to have fabric I want…however you have my sympathy for the in and out trip that’s hard to do!!!

  8. Whew!! What a whirlwind of a weekend you had Anna! I hope you have a relaxing week. Love the adorable apron…perfect fabric for it too! SweetiePie is one lucky little daughter-in-law (to be)!

  9. First, that apron fabric is amazing. I’m sure it’s makings came out of the secret fabric vault, so there isn’t any more available, but it’s darling. I’d knock my crazy Grandma outta the way to grab some of it. Second, ick. Just ick. I don’t like weddings simply for the amount of stress they generate, but you do want a proper beggining for your kids, and there’s CAKE, so I hope the rest of the planning goes without incident.
Last night Melly, redrhonda, and I went out to see “Juno” (which is a darling movie, btw), but not before Rhonda’s cat chomped my arm. Instead of seeing my new chiro-dude today, I have to squeeze in a trip to have my puncture wounds cleaned and ‘debrided'(in between haircut and new nails…I have my priorities, ya know) and get a tetnus shot. Haven’t had one of those since my lop-eared rabbit bit me in 1981. Think I’m over-due? I hope your days fall into line a bit better. I still have bunny patts to mail you. E-mail me your addy if you can, since my scanner is ‘fritzi’ at the moment. Miss you, crafty-momma! Cami

  10. Well the apron comment was a hoot..and I would have said the same to my mom too! As for the Fabric Shack…I completely understand your pain of not being able to look around…ugh I hope you get another chance soon! The weather all across Ohio was horrible…we didn’t even go anywhere friday-sunday!!!!

  11. Love the apron and the comment. Wow, what a lot of traveling. My baby boy is getting married in October, so I’m taking notes!!!

  12. LOL, Well, it is good to know that the “It’s disgusting” phase will last for another 20+ years. Thanks for the warning.

  13. Enough. enough – I’m exhausted just reading all that! I thought mine was a tiring weekend, up at 4.30 Saturday morning to take daughter to school for a day trip to battlefields of WW1 in Belgium and awake till midnight for her return! But you did far more than me!! Love the apron and I think you’re going to be a wonderful mother in law.

  14. Too much winter – when it starts interfering with plans you know it’s been hanging around far too long.
You are a creative thinker – I know it will all work out and it will work out with style and panache!! Love the apron.

  15. Anna you kill me. This post was funny/cute/and an “I know what you mean” moment.

Hey we play hand and foot too!!! My gosh we have so much in common.

I really hate weddings. Sad to say but I do. Its just so much!

I used that fabric to border my daughter’s shower quilt! Like minds and all that.

And it was time change weekend, which screws everyone up!!! Yikes, take a nap.

  16. Sounds like such a busy time! You’ll need your time at work to recover!!! But what is hand and foot? and where oh where did you find that fabby apron fabric???? And can I be your imaginary daughter-in-law without having to marry one of your boys? (Mr Locket object!) Sweetie-Pie is so lucky to have you!

  17. Oh my, I’m exhausted just from reading that. Now you definately do need to put SPIT ALERtS at the top of your posts in future, that apron comment was a real hoot.

  18. Sister you just make me laugh all the time. From the subject of your post to the post itself. Now that weekend sure didn’t pan out the way you had planned. Although sounds like you got everything done you wanted to, just not at a speed you had hoped for. I was tired just reading it. Cute cute apron :)

    Hugs – karen

  19. Wow – what a weekend! How did getting married ever get so complicated?

I’m all for encouraging my kids to elope and send postcards ;)

Very nearly lost a mouthful of rather good red wine at the naked apron thing – thanks!!!

    xxx

  20. Laughing at the reaction to Naked Newlywed cooking. Have they no daring?
    Love the apron, BTW!
What a busy time! Best laid plans…

  21. Oh I love the apron and the shower gifts are wonderful…she’ll think of you every time she makes cookies…good memories. As for your weekend…I’m exhausted…no wonder you were pooped to go back to work…I think I would have left more than my computer at home…LOL! You are Wonder Woman.

  22. Anna we surely should get together when I come through your town on route home!! We have the SAME names!!
Got a chuckle in reading mamas reason for giving the apron to the newly weds…I am sure it(the advise) WILL be taken but you may never hear about it!LOL hugs NG
Hope we meet in person on my way back home in May!

  23. Sounds like you were quite productive even with the weather snafu! Love the comment! It was something I would have said (and gotten the same reaction!) Come to think of it, that was something my Mother would have said too!

  24. Okay, I am totally exhausted just READING about your weekend. I did pick up on the lack of time spent in the quilt shop (ouch – that hurts!). I LOVE the cute apron you made for SweetiePie – she’s a lucky girl to have an almost-mil like you! She must be very special, too!
You must pardon me – I’m going to lie down for awhile……..

  25. Love the apron. Such great details…monogram, piping, gathers and it was probably your own original pattern. Looovved it!

I feel the pain of not being able to really check out the fabric store. Killer. Although I have so much fabric, I should never enter another fabric store. I love fabric so much, I had my very own fabric store for awhile. The problem with that was that I was so busy selling fabric, I didn’t have time to make anything except for samples for classes and patterns.

  26. i LOVE that apron. if i could actually read & follow directions i just might attempt it, but more than likely it would just end up a big mess. maybe i’ll sit and admire your a little while longer!

  27. That apron is adorable…is it your own pattern??? I’d love to make one. Or thirty…all in different colors to wear every day. :)

  28. What a busy weekend!
Love, love, love that wedding cake apron. So sexy and sweet all at the same time. I’m glad your kids rolled their eyes at you in disgust. Shows modesty!!
