Happy July 4th!

4th of July Cupcakes

For those of you in the US, Happy Independence Day! We’re off to our neighbor’s house for our annual cookout where we play games and eat, eat, eat. We’ll toss eggs (in the rain), play cornhole (in the rain), hula-hoop (in the rain) and I have a secret new game for the kids — I froze some t-shirts and the first one to get their frozen t-shirt on will win a movie ticket. (Have you ever tried to unpeel frozen fabric??? – the rain will be their friend!) There will be lots of food — we’re taking baked beans, spaghetti salad, and of course, cupcakes!

Happy, Happy Weekend!
XOXO,
Anna

Edited to add:  OHMYGOSH!  If you’ve never played the frozen t-shirt game you should try it.  Take some t-shirts (I found some at Menards for $1.99 each), get them wet, fold them like you’d put them in a dresser, and then freeze them.  Then, when you have a bunch of people together, hand them out and make it a race.  The first one to get that frozen shirt on wins a prize.  We had the best time.  Before I even had my instructions out, TheSecondChild was running into the house to throw his in the microwave.  My niece was right behind him, and ran to the sink to cover hers with hot water.  TheFirstChild ran out onto the wet grass and was on his hands and knees, rubbing that t-shirt back and forth in the grass trying to get it to thaw.  The other five participants were doing all sorts of other tricks like sitting on them, squeezing them and prying them apart.  They all said when they did get them on, it was freezing cold.  It was HYSTERICAL!  Highly recommended for a LOT of laughs!!!

  1. P.S. So for this frozen T shirt game do you wet the Tshirts down, wring ’em out a bit, and then throw ’em in the freezer?

That is so funny! I love it! You are such a fun spirited gal! What a perfect thing for a hot summer’s day!

  2. OMG! The tee shirt game sounds like fun, much better than a wet tee shirt contest. The cupcakes look delish! have a great day.

  3. Mmmmm….the cupcakes look so good, Anna. Now I would have never thought of the frozen t-shirts, but what a great idea! Happy 4th!
    Love,
    Amy

  4. We dodged the rain somehow. Hubby and I were prepared for the rain…we put up the tent canopy but didn’t even use it. I think from now on at every cookout we have we’ll put up the tent just so the rain will stay away. I hope you had a nice 4th despite the rain.

  5. That sounds like a terrific game. Maybe we’ll try that next 4th! Happy 4th to you, Anna :) Love your cupcakes.

  6. It would seem all our hot weather and record breaking temperatures have been nicked from your area! Oops…we wondered where the rain went!

The frozen t-shirt game sounds like a hoot. I think you could make it more interesting by insisting that no hot water or microwaves can be used! I can just imagine everyone jumping around in the garden!! :o)

  7. It sounds like you had a good day (despite the rain!) I love the sound of the t-shirt game, I will need to remember that one.

We played the Starburst game (a packet of very chewy candy) at a BBQ recently – 2 or more people have to put an entire packet of candy in their mouths at once (about 10) and not start chewing until the race starts = then the first person to eat them all wins….hmm….I don’t think the people watching have laughed so much – of course for the people playing it was impossible to laugh!

  8. Now I have heard of the wet tshirt contest – but never a frozen one. You could be creating a new trend here. Sounds like you had a great 4th!

  9. Happy 4th July! Hope you had a good day. What a great idea for the kids – the frozen tshirt. Might wait til it is Summer over here though before we try that one!

  10. the t-shirt game sounds very funny!

i made your broccoli salad yesterday and loved it! it was gone pretty quick–no leftovers! :)

  11. Happy 4th Anna. we went to a water slide party at our friends who bought huge waterslides and planted them up the hill on his property and they go down into his pool.
i made those jalapeno/bacon/cream cheese thingys from pioneer woman. she has definitely added to my popularity ratio. i’ve moved up a few rungs. we also made raspberry trifle and spousal unit rolled/cooked a couple hundred shanghai lumpia – which were devoured in about FIVE MINUTES.

I’m sooooo doing that frozen tshirt game at my next baby shower i give! haaaa. you know those idiotic games they make you play? where you have to guess which melted candy bar has been smeared into a diaper to look like poop? Or you have to guess everything on the tray after it’s been taken away? one time i froze those cake decorating babies into ice cubes and the first person to DELIVER their baby to me, got a big prize. i got great photos of those women with those ice cubes! i hate those games. did i tell you i hate those games? so i just serve a nice lunch and don’t play games. then… when someone whines about it, i’ll whip out the frozen tshirts. muah-hahahaha. you are brilliant anna, just brilliant.

  12. Fabulous idea!!! I needed an idea for my oldest daughter’s birthday! Yeah thanks!!! Happy fourth we made matching cupcakes. Glad you had fun in the rain!

  13. i have seen the frozen t-shirt challenge… but i saw it @ a relay for life fundraiser where there were no microwaves or sinks.. just college kids clawing at them!! but it was funny as can be to watch!

  14. I think the frozen t-shirt race is pure genius! How funny. I will definitely keep that one tucked in the back of my brain.
Glad you had such a fun day!!

  15. OMG how funny!!! I love that game. I’ve gotta give it a try. The family wont know what hit em when I throw a frozen t shirt at em. lolol
Your cupcakes look sooooo darn good.

  16. I want to live at your house. Would you consider adopting me? I am actually an orphan…..That game sounds hysterical! The most exciting thing I did was make a dish called “skunk beans”. It was like having a side of candy with your hamburger. But I think I’m cut out for more exciting things—like trying to win that frozen tee shirt contest. Who won anyway?

  17. LOL! LOL! I can just see the hilarity of the Frozen T-Shirt Game. I must remember that for our next get-together.

Happy 4th, Anna! We had Canada Day on July 1st here.

  18. A belated but happy 4th of July to you, too! I’m loving the picture of the festive cupcakes and that frozen t-shirt race sounds like a real hoot. I’d not heard of that before but will certainly remember it.

  19. sounds like a great party and your frozen t-shirt game is on my list for next time!! to much fun to be had is never a bad thing, thanks!

  20. Okay, the frozen tee game is definitely one we will have to try with our son and daughter and all their friends. Sounds hilarious!

  21. Frozen T-shirt contest? Are you sure you didn’t mean Wet T-shirt Contest? (hee hee!) That’s one I’ll have to try this summer.

I love seeing your cupcakes come out for celebrations!

    jody

  22. Anna you are too funny, we played cornhole at the party we went to, I don’t know if they called it that though. The spaghetti salad sounds yummy, I will try it, everyone here loves ranch!

  23. Patriotic cupcakes!
    You amaricans are great.
You know, from your experiances in Germany, how we celebrate our national holiday.
We, sleep long, and do not work, that´s it.
I wish you a super week
    Hugs
    Janine

  24. Sounds like the 4th was a freezing fun time for all! That contest must have been so crazy to watch!! Those cupcakes look so yummy – I want to lick my screen.

  25. aww, those cup cakes look yummy, your blog is bad for my diet! I love the idea of those frozen tshirts, simply must play this when we have a ‘do’

  26. I am going to have to remember the frozen t-shirt race. I think my family would have a ball with it. Happy 4th (4 days late!).

  27. The trick with Vegemite is to spread it thinly. Try it lightly smeared on hot buttered toast. Heaps of Aussie kids grew up on it.
