Happy July 4th!

Thimbleanna: Happy 4th

Happy July 4th to all my US friends! And to all my UK friends, especially Pam — Happy Pam’s Birthday!!! Pam, I hope you’re celebrating your birthday the way we do — by grilling outside and watching fireworks! ;-D

TheFirstChild, SweetiePie and Winston are here and we’re having a nice quiet weekend. We’re planning a 4th of July bike ride downtown this morning and then we’ll have a little cookout with MeMum and BigDaddy here, at our house. Followed by some fireworks — TheManoftheHouse bought a few more than he should have this year — hopefully it will be fun AND mosquito free. (We’ve had such a wet year (the wettest June on record) and the mosquitos will eat you alive out there!)

I’ve managed a little sewing while the kids have been here. SweetiePie had some homework to do, so we sat together and I put a few stitches in another Chuck Nohara block. It’s slow going, but I have 5 little blocks now — this is going to be a loooong-term project!

The latest block, with the piggies, was a fair bit of work. I think it was meant to sew the little wedges onto a background fabric, but the piggies didn’t line up with the openings, so I cut them into hexagons and stitched them back together again.  Here’s a poor cell-phone picture taken before the wedges were sewn on.

I loved that I didn’t have to worry about my stitches showing on the seams, since they were covered up by the wedges. This was a really fun little block to make!

Ok — must run — lots to do today. If you’re partying in the US, have a great time!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Wow, what little beauties your Chuck Nohara Blocks are. One is cuter than the next and all of them so work intensive. How many are there altogether? They’ll keep you out of trouble for a while, that’s for sure!!! Happy 4th of July (and not mozzies in sight, hopefully).

  2. Happy 4th hope the bugs don’t eat you up! we had rain yesterday so the bugs will be out in full force today I’m sure – we might skip the night activities at the park – didn’t buy any fireworks this year.

  3. I think we’re all getting wet this 4th. But don’t let that stop all of you from having a great BBQ!

And I thought the Auntlets were quilting goddesses. Chuck Nohara, oh my word, ohhhh… I’m looking forward to seeing yours in progress.

  4. Happy 4th of July Auntie Anna! I love your CH blocks, and I hate to be contrary, but I love the crown block the best. ???? Enjoy your weekend.

  5. Ah, your little piggies block is so cute! Have fun with the fireworks. The municipal show was on Wed. here; they must have got a discount.

  6. I am so impressed with your problem solving skills. I thought that was Sweetie Pie on the Instagram. Have a great weekend with the kids.

  7. Happy 4th Anna! WOW! You have FIVE chuckie blocks! Well done, love them all especially the oink oink!!! lol! May I ask what size are you making your Chuck Nohara block? Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend! Raining here in DC!

  8. wow. wow. wow. did i saw wow? you never cease to amaze me. i wanna sew like you when i grow up. would you stop practicing so i can catch up? i’m still at the dirndl skirt stage. i’m going to graduate to a pillow soon and then there’s no stopping me.
sounds like your 4th was wonderful.
i read something about the star spangled banner… and frances scott keye – i’ll tell you about it later.
well…. i have to go look at your fabric shop and figure out what i need to get next… i’ve been pretty lax lately about shopping!!!
    :waves madly.

  9. Anna, Anna, Anna. How I love your blog soooo much. My only problem is that I am super lazy, and like my blogs delivered to me by email. I can’t seem to be able to do that with yours, so I only actually get to read it like twice a year. But it is my ffffavorite.

So, I’m caught up now for the past 6 months or so.
And i have to tell you how much I loved your spotted socks. So beautiful.
And the ruffly bib. I was nuts about it when I saw Naughty Kitty chewing on it. Even though I didn’t know what it was yet, I loved it.
Your cookies of the month make me want to Eat Cookies. (shame on you)
Your knitting bag is gorgeous, and I love what you did with the handle.
The churn dash minis. I must make some of those.
The Lopi sweater: gorgeous! Matching mittens: an inspired idea.
And your double gauze (whatever that is) shirt. Sooo beautiful. I’m wondering, do you tie the ties, or let them go free in the breeze?

Thank you for sharing all your beautiful projects, you have the most beautiful blog ever. Ok, fan-girl-rant over now. =)

  10. those little piggies are just too doggone cute!!! amazing!!!

p.s. – do you ever get weary of people telling you how amazing you are? i can’t imagine how difficult it would be to remain humble … i’m just sayin’

  11. Happy Independence Day… somewhat late, or indeed early for 2016. Thanks for celebrating my birthday as usual. See you soon(ish)!
