Thimbleanna

Good Neighbors

Well Hello! At last, I’m back from my travels. I had a fun trip and I can’t wait to go through all my pictures and post a few of them!

Thimbleanna: Good Neighbors

In the meantime, it’s my turn on the Good Neighbors Pincushion Party blog hop. If you’re a quilter, you’re sure to know CrazyMom. She chose her blog name well all those years ago — she IS Crazy! CrazyMom is also amazing. She’s a non-stop ball of quilting fire — oh, to have all of her energy!  She makes an unbelievable number of quilts (I LOVE her 101 Scrap Projects!), writes patterns, teaches quilting classes, co-authored a book, and NOW she has her first fabric line. I’m SO excited for her, and when she asked me to be part of her pincushion party, I jumped at the chance!

Thimbleanna: Good Neighbors

Her new line is called “Good Neighbors” and it’s classic CrazyMom style — bright, happy colors, just like her quilts. (I shamelessly stole that little picture above from the Connecting Threads website so that you could see some of the variety of the prints in Good Neighbors.) I love that this line is called Good Neighbors — I’d love to swap these fun fabrics over the back fence with CrazyMom — I can just imagine how fun it would be to have Ms. Crazy herself as my neighbor — my Good Neighbor!

Thimbleanna: Good Neighbors

Anyway, on to my pincushion. I knew right away that I wanted to make my favorite pincushion again — Posy Pin Pie by Jillily Studio. This is a large pincushion and it holds lots of pins and needles and … stuff. I love a jumbo pincushion! Because it’s such a big pincushion, stuffing it with all walnut shells would make it pretty heavy, so I chose a half ‘n half stuffing. Half fiberfill and half walnut shells. (Fiberfill on top, shells on the bottom.) In my book, it’s the perfect weight.

Thimbleanna: Good Neighbors

CrazyMom’s fabrics are so fun and versatile.  I had fun choosing which fabrics to put in my pincushion.  And look at the little discovery I made — Good Neighbors goes perfectly with Jen Kingwell’s Gardenvale (I mixed them up in the pile above) — how fun is that???

Thimbleanna: Good Neighbors

So, would you like a charm pack of Good Neighbors for yourself? Just leave a comment — and to make it fun, tell me the top vacation spot on your bucket list (i.e., where is the one place that you really want to go where you’ve never been before.) I’ll draw a random winner by Tuesday, September 15th. (Sorry, this drawing is only open to U.S. and Canadian residents.)

Also, you can check out the full Good Neighbors collection at Connecting Threads.

And be sure to check out the rest of the cute pincushions in CrazyMom’s Pincushion Party!

  1. Glad you got home safely, Anna. As I live in Scotland, I’m not allowed to enter – boooooo – but I’ll tell you my answer anyway. I’d love to go and see the Grand Canyon again. (I know you said somewhere I hadn’t been before but as I’m not really entering, I’m not abiding by the rules! :oP)

  2. when I saw Crazy Mom’s fabric I thought right away that I would have to get a big bundle of these and I think I have just the pattern waiting for it – that has been patiently hanging by it’s peg for about 2 years or more now. My bucket list vacation spot would be St. Petersburg, Russia
Love your big pin cushion –

  3. Your pincushion is adorable! I have always wanted to visit England and see the historical sites as well as the beautiful gardens.

  4. Glad that you are home safe and sound! I would love to visit Australia, and maybe take a workshop or two from some of my favourite designers.

  5. Anna, you’ve got me beat by a mile with all your energy! I would love to go to Scotland someday……the home of my ancestors. Love your pincushion! ????

  6. Israel would be my destination trip. Looks like we might be able to cross it off our bucket list next spring!!

  7. Hey Anna, I was waiting to see what pincushion you would make out of Amandajean’s very fun line. You did not disappoint – I love it! Thanks for letting us know Good Neighbors pairs well with Gardenvale. As for bucket list vacation spot #1, it would be a walking tour of the British Isles. All of them – for a whole summer, staying at B&Bs or castles along the way. Maybe I should start saving now…

  8. Love your pincushion! I would love to go to the British Isles and do some genealogy research and see all that history! FUN!

  9. would love to visit Ireland but I am ill and i am not supposed to travel and do not travel well. That being said, my husband spoke with my doctors and got a small trip stateside approved and we are just taking a vacation to Colorado to a friends beautiful mountain retreat this fall. Very exciting as i have not been there, well or much of anywhere for that matter, lol

  10. Where to go? That’s a tough one, Paris, Rome or the Lake country? And then there is Australia, guess I had better get traveling. Love this pincushion off to find the pattern for it too!

  11. I would love to go to Bali, and vacation in one of the little houses on the beach. So relaxing!! Thanks for the chance to win!

  12. I love your pincushion! It looks great served up like that. The vacation that is on my bucket list is to go to Scotland. It looks like a wonderful country! Thanks!

  13. I love your pincushion and all the gorgeous fabrics. Reading through the comments I was delighted to see that so many of your peeps would like to visit Scotland!!

  14. At the moment I really want to visit Gee’s Bend to visit the quilters and soak up the history there. Hopefully I’ll get there soon and then get to pick the next fun vacation spot! Thanks for the giveaway – glad to be introduced to your blog!

  15. I love big pincushions and yours is fantastic. My dream trip would be to Ireland – home of my ancestors. Thanks for the giveaway.

  16. Love the pinchusion. I have always wanted to visit Hawaii, but I am weary about flying over that much water.

  17. carolyn montgomery

my dream vacation would be a bus/train land tour of alaska. we took a cruise to alaska and our dream has been to go back and spent days instead of hours in the ports we stopped in. thanks for the giveaway, i love these fabrics.

  18. Funny you should ask. I’m one of those who loves to return to familiar places, but I just told my sweetheart about how, growing up, our grandparents always told us such great stories about Hawaii and how Grandpa always greeted us with a hearty, “Alo-ha!” and he said, “You should really go there!” and I thought, with wonder, “I’ve always wanted to!” and wondered why I hadn’t really recognized that before now. So, long story short: Hawaii.

  19. Anna! You did such a fabulous job on your pincushion! I have never tried to fill one with half shells and half fiberfill, but I am going to have to based on your recommendation. Can you imagine all the trouble we would cook up if we were neighbors? I mean, that would be dangerously fun! I’d happily swap charms over the back fence with you any day. xoxox

Thanks so much for being a part of the party!

  20. Actually, I would love to visit Connecting Threads, but I don’t fly and I don’t drive! Needless to say, I don’t travel much. So, I sew!

  21. What a cute pincushion! You made it big, but it could easily be sized down. As for my vacation spot on my bucket list, I think that Yellowstone is topping it now, for places I haven’t been to before. Then there’s the Florida Keys, New Orleans, and the Grand Canyon. South Carolina for a NASCAR race??? Too many to choose from!

  22. Your pincushion is great and I love the new fabric line, such pretty colors. As far as where I really want to go there are so many places. I am leaving soon for the east coast on an extended trip and will visit hopefully many places I have been wanting to see. One that is closer to home is Banff, Canada where you just were. We are actually talking about going there sometime next year so I may get to cross that off my list of places to see.

  23. I am looking for a little project for a swap I’m in on Ravelry, and this pincushion may be the ticket. Anyhoo—as for my travel bucket list, I want to go to Italy on my honeymoon. I don’t even have a boyfriend, but there you have it.

  24. Love the pincushion, so I just went and ordered that pattern! Question, though – since the walnut shells serve to sharpen the pins and needles, wouldn’t it be better to have them on top? Maybe shells, then fiberfill, then shells? Just wondering. Thanks!!

  25. Great idea combining the fiberfill & shells! I have so many bucket list travel spots it’s difficult to pick just one, but honestly if I had the money today my first choice would be Japan.

  26. Hello Anna, truly wonderful to meet you.
On the bucket list is Greece. I could eat stuffed grape leaves all day and sip wine too>
Yes I’d love to have that Crazy Mom for a neighbor, she’s always so funny, inspiring and has the best scrappy fabric tips around. Love the way you served up your pin cushion, it looks so scrumptious:)

  27. I have always wanted to go to Montana. If it was somewhere I have been before, I go back to finding sand dollars at Anna Maria Island. I have never felt more at peace than the couple of hours I spent there one afternoon!

    Your pin cushion is adorable!!!

And I see those two lines of fabric making some really fun rainbow quilt. They do mix well!

  28. I saw your pictures of Banff, and it’s on my list! A train tour through Eastern Canada, too, in the fall, to see the leaves in full color. Greece, and the Mediterranean… New Zealand! See waht you’ve done here? It’s just like my list of quilts I want to make. One leads to another!

  29. At the top of my travel bucket list is a trip to Israel. I would love to see many of the places mentioned in the Bible.

  30. Love your Pincushion! Would make a great Tuffet (if make bigger of course! giggle) Thanks for chance to win yoyr give-a-way too! :)

  32. Love Amanda Jean’s fabric line. I would love to go to New Zealand. It’s on the bucket list for sure.

  33. My favorite dream….to finally meet my half sister , same age as me 10 months difference! She’s French, I’m Amerivan! Our daddy a “player” ! So my bucket list vacation is a trip to France! Which I am in the process of planning for 2016! Prayers do come true!

  34. I know I can’t take part in the give away; I’ve just come to see where people like to go on vacation haha!!! Glad to hear you are safely home and look forward to your pictures.

  35. Great job with the pin cushion!
I love CrazyMom’s site and color palette–just my style.
I’ve always been fascinated by Scandinavia and someday I would love to go there.
    –sarabeth in Mass.

  36. Howdy, neighbor. :) what a fantastic pincushion. I like, really like, the idea of the combo filling. After seeing Amanda Jean’s collection I went out and bought a bag of walnut shells myself. It is high time I make some. bucket list travel…the Mediterranean, a cruise through the Panama Canal, London, India…my list is long because I want to see it all. Thanks for the giveaway.

  39. I have always wanted to go to Ireland where my ancestors originated. Absolutely love your pincushion-the fabrics work great!

  50. Well, Memphis is tops on my bucket list (duh), but that is probably only exciting for me! What would be the next choice would be a quilt shop hop with my VBFFs (hint, hint)!

  51. I don’t have too many countries on a wish-list, but I’d love to go to Scotland to see all the places where the Outlander book series happened. As for Amanda Jean’s fabrics…. they’re great! I can see them going with lots of other lines besides Jen Kingwell’s. So versatile! Thanks for the chance to win!

  52. Now that’s a whopper of a pincushion–maybe if I make one like yours, I’ll get better at putting my pins INTO a pincushion instead of just tossing them in the general direction of one :) I love your Banff and Glacier pics–I’ve been to Glacier and it is gorgeous–but I’ve only been to the eastern provinces of Canada (love PEI!) so British Columbia, Banff, . . . are on my to-visit list. Thanks so much for the giveaway! kswann48@gmail.com

  53. I think everyone should have a crazy neighbor! Crazy in a good way, of course.
