Five.

This post is titled Five today. Just Five. ‘Cause, once again, I’m too late for Five on Friday. {Sigh}. I’m almost too late for Five on Saturday. I have a good excuse though — there’s been major cleaning going on around here and it’s a lot of work. Anyway, here are a few things for your weekend:

1. Last weekend I went to see SweetiePie and we ventured off to Ikea. Here’s a tip — don’t go to Ikea on a Saturday that’s remotely close to Christmas. It was worth it though, look at the cute wrapping paper we found!

2. We’ve been having a big clean out at work. We’re soon going to be squishing from 4 big buildings into 2, so there’s a big purge in the works. (Happily I’m not going to go into my “Who in the *&(% came up with the honeycomb cubicle concept that’s causing 70% of American companies to follow each other over the cliff?” rant. Because there IS a rant and it’s a BIG one.) There’s a community book table for the clean out, and one day, this old Kaffe knitting book showed up. I nabbed it, but I already have a copy, so I thought one of you might like it. It’s free if you’re willing to pay the postage. Just leave a comment telling me you want it. It looks like it could be sent as media mail for around $4.00 in the states.

3. Not much to report on the Aunts’ Quilt this week. I’m still making fabric choices for month 2. In the meantime, check out the great tutorial that Meredithe has posted for a no waste method of creating the flying geese pieces that we need for the pieced blocks.  Thanks Meredithe!

4. The weather in parts of the states last week was awful! I like winter, so I don’t usually complain about the cold, but, according to the weather channel,  “These 20 U.S. Cities Are Allowed To Complain About The Cold”. We came in at number 10 which is really surprising to me. Surely there are much colder cities north of us? We even beat out Detroit and Cleveland.  And we’re only one rank lower than Buffalo — What???  That’s pretty impressive — we’re in the top 10.  I’ll try not to take advantage of our new found privilege this winter, but at least you know, if i do complain … it’s well deserved!  (Also, if you are my children, please note:  There IS more that one skyscraper in your po-dunkey hometown!)

5. On that note, the Scruffster would like to tell you to stay warm and get some rest. Especially if you’re an American preparing for Thanksgiving this week!

XOXO,

  1. you make me wish I had an IKEA close by – I think our closest one is about 10 hours away!! well maybe 6 if there is one in Dallas? I would have to get on line and search but it is still too far away to just hop in the car and go without a plan in place!

  2. It’s good to have your company on a Saturday night! And on the list for coldest cities… Today was a nice change temperature wise. But I’m still holding my breath for December 1 and 2 when our new windows and doors are being installed, you know it’s going to be back to the frozen tundra right? I think I will bake all day and sit next to the oven?? I love the wrapping paper- this may be a good reason for a trip to IKEA (during the week of course). Also, those cubies are ridiculous (I used to call mine a cell and introduce my fellow workers as my cellmates).

  3. You can complain all you want! I do feel sorry for everyone and this early cold spell. I won’t tell you our temps…I’ll just reserve the right to complain this summer when it’s 120+. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  4. I love ikea – I’ll have to go when Hanna gets home. She said Ohio is freezing!!!
sweet kittie – who doesn’t love a nap by the fire!
loved the photo of your town….still miss the mid-west so much.
    Happy Thanksgiving – enjoy!

  5. My rule is “never go to Ikea on a Saturday, no matter what time of year it is. Or a Friday. Or a Sunday.”! In fact, if we’re going, my rule is we get there no longer than an hour after it opens – then we just *might* be able to avoid the crowds! I love Ikea but it just gets too busy. Crumbs, that makes me sound like a right grump! LOL

  6. But did you have meatballs for lunch at Ikea!!?? I’ve had a major catchup for the Aunts’ Quilt over the weekend, having bought my spotty fabric for the pieced blocks on Friday.

  7. I can imagine IKEA could be pretty hectic! It’s that time of year – Christmas shopping began for me yesterday… can’t believe it’s only 32 days until Christmas! Who put the world in a time machine? I better get knitting, and quick! :)

  8. I’ve only been to Ikea once. Loved it. Love that wrapping paper.

I’ve never worked in a cubicle before, but it does not sound nice AT ALL. I’m sorry for you.

Hoping your prep for Thanksgiving goes well. I can’t wait to eat all that delish food.

  9. Ikea is a store I would love to go to more often but you have to travel through the really busy streets of Richmond and the city to get to it so I avoid it. I am crossing my fingers they will build one over this side of the city so I can go there. Your kitty looks very snuggly and cosy on your couch. Hope your not too cold or I could send over some of our weather for you, lol!

  10. honeycomb cubicles suck – i sat at one for 5 years and i thought i’d go cuh-razee … it was great incentive to work the night shift, lemmetellya…

ha! denver is #18! i KNEW it!!! i do NOT like being cold – and it has been bone-chilling freaking freezing – makes me shiver just to think about it … no, wait! i am shivering because i’m COLD – the automatic thermostat turns the heat down at 9:30pm and it is 10:22 … i’m gonna go to bed…

  11. Oh wow, looks like you got a BOLT of wrapping paper. Only YOU would grab a 70’s knitting book that you already had (and aren’t using). I think this constitutes some level or hoarding. now you’re trying to SEND it to someone. You’ll notice, now you’re going to have two of those books, and don’t you dare send it to me, lol. love your cute stack of fabric. the first one i noticed was the pink shirt fabric! okay, so my town TOTALLY should have been on the cold list. i had to put on SOCKS this am and turn on my heater. And when i asked Siri what temperature it was outside, she said BRRRR it’s 39 degrees outside! She actually said BRRRR. It’s very cold here. I also had to get a sweater! And i may have to change out of my shorts into some yoga pants. It’s VERY cold. It’s like 69 in my house. Your kitty is adorable.
    The end.

  12. I do love the cosy kitty picture….such a warm homely one! I hope you keep warm even though you are in a cold zone :) Love the Ikea wrapping paper….I really enjoy going there but my hb doesn’t! My daughters do though :)
    Happy week!

  13. We ventured to the mall today at opening time, it was great, nobody was there. Wish I could go to Ikea for wrapping paper (actually I need picture frames from there!) Stay warm!

  14. Complain about the cold all you want…you deserve to this year! Heck, I’m complaining too…I figure that since I lost 30 pounds of insulation, I can complain all I want! I even wore a jacket in Disney when it was 80 degrees, I’m really in trouble this winter.

    Have a blessed Thanksgiving…

  15. Lots of laughs with this one. We have just reconfigured several buildings with the smallest and shortest cubicles I have seen in 20 yrs…who on earth talks to the employees about this stuff. Our folks hate them regardless of the kitchen and fuzeball game they threw in. Happy Thanksgiving Anna to you and yours!

  16. That is the cutest wrapping paper! It would make such a fun fabric. I hope the snow hasn’t been causing too much havoc. Apparently we’ve had a record breaking November for being hot here in Aust. I can’t knit for nuts but I just love Kaffes knitting books. Lots of cosy woolly colourful eye candy.
