Finally A Quilt

Ooooh Look! I made it back here in less than a month’s time LOL.

AND, I actually have a finish — a big finish for me. I Finally finished the baby quilt for FinallyAGirl. Behold, The Proof:

Thimbleanna: Baby Quilt

I took pictures outside the other day and the sun was pretty bright, so these pictures leave a lot to be desired.  But hopefully, you can see some of the details of the quilt.  It’s very traditional — I do love an Irish Chain style quilt.  And, of course, I had to use Pink. Scrappy Pinks.  It’s mandatory after years of sewing non-pink things!  It’s all hand-quilted and it took a little more than a year to finish all the stitching.  (Because I’m sl-o-o-o-w).  I quilted it pretty traditionally too — heavily with lots of 1/4″ quilting around the shapes.

I filled in the spaces around the stars with little hearts, and then I put a little star hanging from a moon in the middle of the stars.  Apparently, I filed the little moon idea away years ago, because SweetiePie and I were looking at the baby quilts that MeMum made last week, and she’d put that same moon with star in a quilt for TheSecondChild when he was a baby.  Here’s a terrible picture, but, you can see the details of the quilting on the star.

The back and binding are adorable little prints from Lakehouse/PamKittyMorning.  Oh, how I LOVE those prints!  I sure wish Lakehouse would start making fabrics again!

Thimbleanna: Baby Quilt

I gave the quilt to FinallyAGirl last week when they were here.  Here she is (wearing her piggies!), wondering why I’m making Grandpa hold the quilt up LOL.

And I have an amazing Grandma Tip for you.  ‘Cause us Grandmas need to stick together.  This isn’t an original idea — I get my best ideas from other Grammies and Grandma Extraordinaire, Ms. Farmhouse, was the first to tell me about this gem.  The Bouncy House.  If you need a great gift for your littles, This.  Is.  It.  We got this for FinallyAGirl (and her future sister(!)) for her second birthday and it was a huge hit.  We had SO much fun all weekend playing in it.  It’s rated for up to three children up to 8 years old, but Ms. Farmhouse said it’s ok for an adult to sit in there.  So we took turns LOL.  FinallyAGirl was so shy and careful at first, but by the end of the weekend, she was jumping like the crazy two-year-old that she is.  Anyway, highly recommended!

Thimbleanna: Bounce House

Must run and make dinner — Hope July is treating you like a million bucks!!!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. It’s just beautiful! Wow. I love the colors, the design, everything about it. So pretty. The bouncehouse is awesome!!! I saw one in Target recently and was thinking how nice it would have been when my kids were little. They would have loved it. How exciting to have another girl on the way…I think the girl floodgates are open now and it will be girls from here on out! :)

  2. Oh what a beautiful quilt! And you did so much hand quilting; Bravo!!! I love the last picture of your little princess on her bouncing castle!

  3. great quilt finish and so nice to see that you hand quilted it. Congrats on another baby girl coming along – that really is good so maybe first baby girl won’t be too spoiled!

  4. Oh what a beautiful quilt and so personal for her (and you)! Love everything about it!
Have they moved back? Ha July a million bucks…don’t mean to complain, but July=least favorite month—August close second! :) too hot and I get feeling blue….

  5. Wow! This one was definitely worth the wait! it’s beautiful. I bet FinallyaGirl will love running her hand over the quilt’s surface, especially during an enforced naptime. So have you decided on the pattern for #2? Will hers be pink or purple? Congrats!

  6. The quilt is gorgeous. Love it. Did I tell you my friend Jay’s quilt is going to be displayed at the World Quilt Competition in New Hampshire and then 4 or 5 other quilt shows all over the US. She is super excited.

Love that little bouncy house and FinallyaGirl’s cute little bloomers!

    Have a great July!

  7. It’s so pretty, Anna! I like how the dark pinks fade into lighter pinks. You did a spectacular job, and I admire the fact that you hand quilted it. Lucky little girly!

  8. Such a beautiful finish Anna!! And it’s really lovely to have more than one girl all these cute tops and sweaters will be well loved again! My kids had a bounce house with a slide at their family NY eve party. The little one was about 22 months and she was a little whirling dervish racing around to climb up through the house and down the slide again. I was laughing how fun she’s a third kid cause her parents would not have let that happen with the first! Hugs!!

  9. Her SISTER??!!! will enjoy it, too? Congratulations on a beautiful finish and the baby on her way……

  10. The quilt is lovely. I just love you choice of colours and pattern. You always do such beautiful work. Thanks for the bouncy house tip. I’m not there yet (grandma). I’m much too young! LOL Thanks for providing with an opportunity to tease you. lol Cheers!
