Thimbleanna

Beehives

Thanks for all the new header comments — you’re all so sweet!  The little pumpkins aren’t candy — they’re from a Dept. 56 accessory pack that I’ve had for quite a few years.  It struck me that they’re thimble-sized, so I thought it would be fun for them to play a supporting role in the Thimbleanna header.

I finished my beehive wallhanging!  Yipee — I love it when a UFO can be checked off of the list.  If you’ve been around here long enough, you might remember that I love beehives (along with Nanette).  I think it’s mostly because I was born in the beehive state.

Beehive Quilt

I’ve been wanting to have a few beehive things in my sunroom, so (years ago) when I saw the pattern for the beehives, I thought it would make a nice addition to the wall above the couch.  I changed the original pattern (which seems to have disappeared under the piles of crap stuff in the dungeon) a fair amount — for one thing it was a vertical wall hanging and I needed something more horizontal.

Beehive Quilt

When I decided to hand quilt it I was afraid it would take me forever — it’s been just under 2 months though, so I don’t think that’s too bad, considering how slowly I quilt.  I really enjoyed the quilting and I’m missing having something to work on in the evenings.

Beehive Quilt

It really is pitiful how long it took me to make this quilt though.  I blame it on the day job.  In my next life I want to be an applique machine like Janet!

Beehive Quilt

Do you like my little candleholders?  I LOVE them.  MyDadLovesMeBestSister gave them to me a few years ago for Christmas and they’ve been patiently waiting in their Christmas bag for me to finish the quilt.  They both have etched bees on them — just perfect!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. i love all the HST’s in the border and especially the few darker printed fabrics in there. wonderful!! love the dept 56 pumpkins..my mom manages a Hallmark so i know way too much about Dept 56!! your header/display is too fabulous!

  2. well, i’m a girl who hates wall quilts – but that being said… love the beehive wallhanging!! since..i totally have a crush on bees, and hst’s and well, you.
i like how you put both sconces on one side instead of on either side. looks artsy. makes me want to hang out in the sunroom. think MOTH would mind if a bunch of your imaginary friends came for a campout?
i think i love bees and hives because i grew up with bees. and my name starts with a bee. and they make honey.. and they’re cut but dangerous. okay, i’m off to have some lemon sorbet and dream of sitting on the sofa in your sunroom.

  3. Oh what pretty quilting stitches and a wonderful wall hanging, perfect for the spot. The border is fabulous and I just love the little bee. Bees are my thing, I even have a little tattoo of one.

  4. Your wall hanging turned out beautiful. I especially love the stitched little bees! And your hand quilting is fabulous! The border must have been quite a bit of work. How big are those half squares? I’m looking for the right words to describe it. Oh yes; it’s understated elegance, that’s what it is!

  5. I kept looking at your header wondering if they were candy but they just didn’t look like it. Dept. 56 is one of my weaknesses but haven’t found a dealer out here…maybe because I haven’t tried to. Your quilt is gorgeous! The blocks are great close up but from farther away they are beautiful framing the applique. It looks like a wonderful room, too. nice finish!

  6. I adore the wallhanging!!!! I collect bea stuff as my little quilt group is the Busy Bees! If you ever unearth the pattern I’d love to borrow it. The sconces are amazing. Etched bees!!! Woo Hoo!!!

  7. Yay I can comment again :) Beautiful wallhanging and pictures! I love the one with the peek of your couch pillows and the candles….I want to come over and sit and chat :)

  13. It’s gorgeous! You have fired me up with enthusiasm to tackle some of my UFOs – especially the Amish wallhanging that I started when I was staying in Singapore in 1998 or 9 ….. I haven’t done much hand quilting recently and I really miss it!

  14. Love it Anna. Really love how it is hung and the handle holders and the whole feeling of it. It deserved hand quilting. You did such a beautiful job. Beehives are wonderful. I hear ya on the day job thing. I was just complaining about that. But the day job lets me pay for my night job most of the time!

  15. Here I am again, late to the party! Love your wall hanging—wonder what wall hangings did to Brigitta?? Sounds like she has a grudge there!

And I can solve your lack-of-evening-handwork problem. Just tell me which of my UFO’s you’d like to come live with you for a while….If you have trouble deciding, I can send pictures!
