April’s Recipe Box Swap

It’s the first Thursday in April, so that means it’s time for another recipe box swap. Our hostess, Randi, at I Have to Say, has chosen Pasta as our theme this month (well, ok, I helped choose LOL).

Photobucket

My pasta recipe is suspiciously a lot like the one that Randi posted. This is one of our new favorites. I wrote it down in one of my recipe books years ago and never tried it. A few months ago, I was looking for something new so I tried this recipe, and now we have it all the time. (And SweetiePie, I’m betting you and TheFirstChild would like this too.)

Pasta Primavera

Smoked Sausage Primavera

8 oz. uncooked spaghetti — broken in half
8 oz. sausage, cut in slices (we like kielbasa)
1 head fresh broccoli, or 3 cups frozen broccoli
1/4 c. water
3/4 c. evaporated skim milk (I’ve substituted heavy cream before and it was fine)
2 Tablespoons butter
1/2 t. Italian seasoning
1/4 c. grated parmesan cheese

Cook spaghetti. Place sausage, veggies, and water in skillet. Bring to boil. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer 7 to 8 minutes or until veggies are crisp/tender.

Add milk, butter, and seasoning to skillet. Heat until butter melts. Toss mixture with spaghetti and parmesan. Let stand 5 minutes to thicken.

On an unrelated subject, here’s a little addendum to the twitter conversation we had a few posts back. I still don’t get it.  I do get that it’s not facebook and that it could be a powerful tool, but I don’t get how it has much use to me.   I’ve been very sad to see several bloggers move to facebook and now some are heading to twitter. Hopefully they won’t abandon their blogs, but I do think their blogs suffer.   Because I’m a visual person, twitter just doesn’t appeal to me, and having another account to keep track of is even MORE unappealing.

All that said however, I have been reading of one AWESOME use of twitter. If you have some spare reading time, check out the story of twitchhiker who traveled half-way around the world, and all for free.  If I could do that, I’ll bet I’d love twitter!

Have a great weekend!

XOXO,
Anna

okay, um… WHAT ARE YOU THINKING???? FEEDING US HOT DOGS AND NOODLES????
okay, now that i got that off my chest, it’s me, the recalcitrant blogger, come to mend my ways. i, brigitanechilada, do hereby swear, that i will post something to my blog in no less than 48 hours from NOW. or….um…. i don’t know, but i will. i promise. i swear on martha by mail, even though it’s defunct and we can’t purchase overpriced things we don’t need from a mail order catalog that no one knew about…
    :sighs deeply
too bad she went to jail and ruined my life…
    :shakes it off
okay, anyway…. i’m so going to send you some recipes, although, last time i gave you a pesto recipe, you put it onto a flippin’ fig! an underripe fig, i might add.
did you know the fig trees are starting to get leaves around here? pretty soon, i’ll be carting boxes o’ figs to my little kitchen and making grilled figs with prosciutto and blue cheese, fig tarts, figgy salad, fig chutney, figs with honey, fig and ollalieberry jam. oh sorry, i started on a fig rant, sorry, sorry.
it’s strawberry season in california, which means that cherries are right around the corner! produce springing up everywhere, us foodies will have so much to post… we won’t know where to start.
i got some new fabric. but i can’t show you. but it’s wonderful… just so you know.
okay, i’m off to clean the kitchen. i’ve been on the work avoidance program and it’s not working out so well around here.
man this is a long comment. i think i just got excited that i was a first commenter again. and a little upset about the hot dogs and noodles. i’ll forgive you. you’re a midwesterner. and, (big and) you tried figs for me last year.

  2. I love pasta and that looks like a yummy, but simple recipe. Must. Try. It. We barbecued today – it’s actually not snowing this minute so we thought we would take advantage of that :)

  3. This sounds delish! We eat a lot of broccoli and I am always looking for new ways to make it. Thanks for posting this!

  4. Hi Anna! Just had to stop by and say ‘Thank You!’ for all of the wonderful fabric scraps you sent me…I really love them, especially the fun mouse fabric! =) Also, thank you so very much for the chocolates and the darling tag…it’s already made it’s way to my key ring. I’ve been playing with all the fabric I’ve received in the mail today…what fun! Thanks again for sending such wonderful fabrics my way! =)

  5. Oh…and I also wanted to tell you how great your siggy blocks turned out! I just love the thimble! =) Can’t wait to get mine! I’m still finishing up…

  6. Seriously yummy going on there! I must try this recipe.

Hey, which siggy swap are you in? I’m in the first one. They had so many they started a second one. I hope we’re in the same one. I’ve got to finish mine. Silly me. I have had them sewn for quite some time now, but haven’t signed them. I must sit down this weekend and get them done and in the mail!

  7. Man, that is makin’ me hungry!!! I’m coming right over, LOL! ;)

I’ve seen a couple of blog that have a “tweets” widget on their sidebar from twitter. It gives little updates from their twitter posts onto their blog and that’s kind of cool in that it kind of “enhances” their blog and shows a little more of a blurb of one’s personality, but I can’t see twitter replacing blogging; especially the crafty blogs. I mean, wadda ya gonna say? Oh, I knitted a scarf today.

BIG DEAL! Let’s see it! SHOW ME THE CRAFTING!!! LOL! ;)

  8. MMMMM….. That pasta dish looks so yummy! I wish my computer had a feature for aromas. I have to say that I totally agree with you on the Facebook/Twitter thing. I love blogging and find it much more useful.

  9. Surely it’s not a month since the last one!!!! Looks like a good recipe Anna BUT … (and you know I’m not picky about my food!) might I swap veggie sausages for the meaty ones?

  10. Looks good and I totally forgot about the Recipe Box Swap and I even made a new dish for it…I think my mind is going.
    Have a great weekend.

  11. Looks great! I’m not much of a meat eater so I’d leave out the sasuage but I’d bet it would still by yummy.

  12. Delicious, yum! I love kielbasa and I love pasta so why not put them together for a wonderful flavor. Looks easy too and that’s what I am into these days.

  13. Ooh, thanks for the recipe Anna – it looks yum, but tell me, what is a skillet? It sounds very lovely and old fashioned. It certainly sounds as though you should heat it over an open fire, perhaps wearing a nice bonnet x

  14. Sounds good! I was on FB before I started blogging – I love catching up with people I haven’t seen in a long time, but Twitter, I had an account, couldn’t keep up with it, and deleted it! Too much to keep track of :)

  15. Sounds good! Our current favourite pasta dish is pancetta bacon cubes fried with garlic and sometimes mushrooms or even leeks from the allotment with cream stirred in at the end and loads of black pepper – and sometimes a sprinkling of pine kernels! Yum!

  16. Oh YUM!
I can’t really get into the twitter thing. I feel like I spend too much time “computing” as it is. I have seen a few fav bloggers disappear into Facebook too – and talk about a major time suck! I’m on FB but I only check it about once a week or if I get a message. Again, there’s only so much time in a day! (I mainly got on facebook so I could keep tabs on my nieces and nephews, hahaha)

  17. Thanks for the yummy recipe, that sounds delicious!

I’m glad to know there is another blogger out there isn’t hooked on Facebook. I got two invitations from friends this week, and my resistence is wearing thin. I think I would love Facebook, and that’s why I avoid it. I just don’t have the free time.

  18. Okay, I had to try it, and it’s delicious. Of course I had to first cook it with no veggies at all because Mr. Muddle is sure broccoli is from the devil, but after I gave him his portion I added in a stir fry mix of veggies. Can I just say YUM! Thanks again.

  19. HI Anna,
I make a similar recipe called Spaghetti carbonera. It has bacon, onions, and eggs with milk. You cook the spaghetti first. In a frying pan you cook the bacon, onions a clove of garlic ( I usually add mushrooms too) . Mix up eggs, milk or cream, salt and pepper to taste with some parmesan cheese in a bowl.
You then put the cooked spaghetti into the frying pan with the bacon, onions, mushrooms and pour over the egg mixture and stir it into the spaghetti. Voila it is ready. It is one of my son’s favorite dishes and relatively quick to make. We usually add more parmesean cheese on the plate.
I have never added broccoli or other vegetables but you could.
    Have a great weekend.
    Regards,
    Anna

  20. The pasta recipe looks delish…an I’m with you on the “twitter” thing. I also am having a hard time understanding Ravelry, which many of the needle workers out there seem to love. Do you use Ravelry?

    Amy

  21. The pasta looks good .. but I don’t eat meat! I still don’t know what twitter is and I’m resisting finding out!

  22. Hi, I just love pasta, but I would use fish instead of the sausage! Or even just the vegetables.

  23. “i’ve substituted heavy cream before and it was just fine.” LOL. how COULD you go wrong substituting heavy cream for evaporated skim milk?
