A New Apron

Thanks for all your compliments on my sleek, humid, stickpeople look!  All that weather talk put a pox upon us — the day after I blogged about how hot and humid it was, the A/C went out.  Thankfully, we were only two days without cool air, and it really wasn’t too bad.  A little sweaty, but doable.

In the meantime, I worked on an apron pattern that I picked up when I was in Utah.  I saw this fabric in several of the stores and liked it, but couldn’t think of what to make with it.  Then, when we were at our last shop with Kim, I spotted an apron pattern that I liked, so the match was made.

This is a really fun apron to wear.  And because I finished reading Precious Bane (Yum!) this weekend and I can imagine our heroine, Prue Sarn, wearing just such an apron (minus the bright colors, of course), I’m thinking maybe I’ll call this apron my Prue Frock.  So far, I’ve worn it cleaning and those big pockets are just perfect for all the little odds and ends that I picked up as I moved from one room to the next.

Prue Frock

The pattern is pictured below.  It’s the Lilly Apron by Busy Bee Quilt Designs.  I made the band that sits on top of the bust just a bit narrower and moved the pockets just a bit closer to the center.  It’s open in the back and that “bust band” ties in a big bow in the back.  It probably looks a little funny, but that’s okay, it’s soooo comfortable.  And of course, I didn’t want to overshadow the pattern model with my new frock hotness, so I hung it on MyDadLovesMeBestSister’s planter instead of modeling it.

Oooh, and see my new little pincushion plate?  I saw those in several quilt shops in Utah too and had to have one.  It adds just a bit of elegance to the dungeon.  A chandelier and a pedestal pincusion — gosh, I need a diamond to complete the sparkly trinity.  (In my dreams!)

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Geez, I’m first? That’s a first!! I love the apron Anna! I bet the big pockets do come in handy. I have lots of aprons but don’t usually wear them. Why? I have no idea! I have little plates that I put pincushions on too. Aren’t they the cutest? Have a great rest to the week.

  2. Nice big pockets are so handy. I wear my old favorite to clean the house but this would be very stylish. And I would go for as much bling in the sewing room as I could get. I am so glad your air is back on because I think more sticky days are coming for the midwest.

  3. Ohhhlaalaaa…I love it all. I think that apron is dang cute. So cute. I just love it. I even have seen the material in a lqs. I love that use used that bold stripe. It is so striking. I particularly like the unique straps. Hmm. I need that pattern, that is for sure. And the pedestal for the pincushion in your dungeon, how pretty!

  4. Sweet apron and even sweeter pin cushion. I have begun picking up little knick knacks while thrifting to repurpose into pincushions. Hopefully a (near) future blog post.

Also, Anna, I’ve not forgot about sending your pattern. I am just losing terribly at this round of “Beat the Clock,” but I feel a lucky streak coming right around the corner.

    Love,
    Amy

  5. Ooohhhh… I love your little apron. So cute. And your pincushion looks like a delectable treat sitting on that plate.

I made an apron, too. Did you see it? ?

  6. I want to see the stick gal in the frock. Put it on her. Put it on her. Pleeeease. Super cute, Anna.

And you definitely need a diamond. I’m pretty sure it’s all you need to “live the dream”. LOL!

    Happy Day,
    Cassie

  7. I really love how the lily apron turned out. It might contribute to actually wanting to do chores just so you can wear it. LOL! I love the pincushion plate too. It turned out really nice.

  8. oh my, now you’re making me want to go to fabric stores! i went to thimblecreek a few months ago, but i haven’t been fabric shopping in so long! (unless you count my obsession for acquiring bolts of bella!)
love your apron and the fabric choices are wonderful. i would look a bit like an oompa loompa since i’m short a bit, um, chubby. i’m opting for not going with the Danny Devito is the Penguin lookalike contest so i’ll just say no to your new apron.
your pincushion plate reminds me of your Patisserie dome! i’ll have to break mine out soon!
glad to hear the house has cooled off.
    :waves madly

  9. I love that pin cushion plate. I’ve been trying to stay away from fabric stores until I use up some of my stash. I just might have to go and find one of those though. Too cute!

  10. Gorgeous apron – I keep meaning to make myself an apron one of these days. And I love the pedeatal pin cushion… how elegant!

  11. I love it Anna…and I’m LOL because I just made two Lilly Aprons and posted about them too. You were WAY more creative than I was…Very Pretty!!!

  12. Great apron – I tend to be a messy cook and it looks to be a practical design with a lot of coverage! The pincushion pedestal is most inspired – it is lovely to see the humble pincushion evolve into a more elegant accessory.

  13. Hi Anna! LOVE the apron and REALLY REALLY LOVE the pin cushion! Has it cooled off for you? Yesterday and today haven’t been bad here near Indy. And I made it down to Clementine’s, per your advice, this summer. What a happy place! Keep cool and keep on blogging… I love checking in with you!

  14. Anna, I love the fabric and the pattern for your apron. It just looks so cheerful, and we need all the cheer we can get when we’re doing household tasks, right? The pincushion is tres elegant, too!
    Hugs, Elaine

  15. Love the idea with the pincushion.. have seen something like that around and am on a hunt.. who knows.. I might find another bargain at my work!!!

  16. I love your new apron. Wow, for the first time I’m thinking I gotta get me one of those. (I haven’t worn an apron since I was a child :o) The fabric is VERY pretty.

The pin cushion plate is so sweet.

  17. Very smart apron design Anna- love the colors too.
I had not seen a pedestal pincushion before- it is indeed elegant looking-
Good luck with that diamond- a girl can always use diamonds VBS
    Happy sewing,
    Regards,
    Anna

  18. That is super cute and a little bit different too, how fun!! Glad the ac wasn’t out too long, that’s never a good thing. Oh, and I love that little pincushion, some one was very clever!!!!

  19. I bought the pattern to make my daughter an apron. Here it sits. Yours is so cute. Love the fabrics. I just need to give up sleeping to get everything made on my “to do” list. Yours makes me want to drop it all and start on an apron.

  20. Hey I’ve had that apron pattern. Have I made one?? Ummm no. I love the fabric you used on yours. Very cute. I’d expect nothing less than cute from you.
    Love the pincushion plate too.

  21. What a lovely apron. And that sewing machine is to drool over, indeed. I can imagine you would gladly make place for that diamond :-D

  22. Oooh! That apron is way too nice to wear cleaning. It could even double up as a summer smock top….except maybe sew up the back closed.

  23. Love the pin cushion plate!1 How cute!

Love the fabrics you have used for the apron…I bet you look very glamorous wearing it in the kitchen ;o)

  24. Lovely, though one would need your nice slender figure to wear that shape!

You’ll be really proud of me: I took my mother-in-law’s, and my mother’s, sewing machines to get mended!! They’ve been broken for a) 18 years and b) 4 years. Are you impressed? Haven’t got them back yet and will be snowed under by work by the time I do, but they’re part of the get-quilting-by-2020 plan…

  25. I love that apron Anna! It turned out soooo cute! I might have to order that pattern.
I was cutting up scraps for the scraps to treasure project this last week and was laughing at one of the fabrics you sent (I think it was you) Did you send the jungle print with the monkeys in jewel tones? Anyway, it just gave me a chuckle. I think that fabric deserves an honorary position in my project, will see what I can do!

  26. Shoot how did I miss this post – dang that apron is adorable. I keep thinking I should try making a few aprons for Christmas gifts. There is so much cute fabric out there perfect for these workable frocks – love what you picked out. Who knew there was a plate for the pincushions – dang cute – the sewing dungeon is really getting spiffed up :). Glad your a/c is back in working condition. We’ve been hot, with cooler temps making a come back this week. So we’ve had hmmmmm 3 days of summer, lol.

  27. Oh!!! This is so delicious! I love the apron, Miss Thimble, and the fabrics….Yum! We’re in a great cool-down here in the West so we’ll be blowing it over your way soon.

  28. Oh poor you…My a/c went out last Summer and oh those miserable days until we could replace it…made me soooo grateful to be living in a time and place with electricity. Can you imagine what it must have been like way back when not only was there no a/c but they wore all those layers of heavy clothing? That apron is adorable!! Love the fabric! And yes quite the elegant pincushion pedestal, very cute pincushion too!! Prue Sorn…what a name! I still need to check my library for that.

  29. I love the fabric on your apron, soooo cute!!! And I am totally coveting your pincushion and pedestal!!! What shop did you find that in? I MUST have one!! :)
