A Black & White Birthday

How can it be that another weekend has gone so fast?  Did you all have a good one?  It was a busy weekend here – but very relaxing.  I managed to get in a bit of sewing and knitting which made it all the better!

Today is my youngest niece’s birthday.  MyDadLovesMeBestSister had a family dinner for her tonight and she made a delicious Sweet and Sour Shrimp dish.  I should have taken a picture!  Anyway, YoungestNiece  is 13 today.  A Teenager!  Can we please have a moment of silence for MyDadLovesMeBestSister and MyCrazyBIL?  They have three teens in the house now.  Yikes!

Oooommmmm.

Thank you.  Although, I don’t think they really need it — their teens are cherubs.  YoungestNiece’s Christmas present was to change over her bedroom from little girly pink to more sophisticated black and white, with blue.  She has a cute pink pottery barn fabric basket holder, and in order for her to keep using it, I decided to make new baskets for her birthday.

Polkie Baskets

I used the old baskets as a pattern and the fabric is from Michael Miller’s Plain Jane line.  (Super Big Thanks to Brigette for finding this for me!  And speaking of Brigette, she’s posted a few new recipes — one of which is a fabulous looking White Chocolate Bread Pudding — you might want to go check that out!)  I stuck some labels in the little label holders, and of course I had to tease her.

Polkie Baskets

Here is what they look like, hanging on the basket holder.  The holder will be hung on the wall – for now, it’s just leaning against the wall.

And just because we saw the little cutie tonight, here’s a new pic of Teddy Rose.  He’s growing like a weed, but still sleeping like a baby.  Currently in the new birthday chair!

Tired Teddy

Ok – I’m off.  My doofy self left my purse at the birthday house, so now I must brave the cold again and run to get it.  Hope your week starts of right!

XOXO,
Anna

  1. Great pictures! What a charming gift – what a lucky girl to have such a thoughtful and talented aunt. My “baby” turned 13 on New Year’s Day, which made our teenagers-in-the-house total:3.
The middle one will be 16 tomorrow and the eldest is 18 and they all make me smile every day!

  2. 3 teenagers, ooh goodness I will have to put up with 4 this weekend! A house full of boys though so maybe it wont be too bad. I love the black and white fabric baskets you made, how gorgeous. Teddy Rose looks as though the chair is the right place to stay warm and relax!

  3. Happy New Year, I think I used two of my weight watcher’s points just looking at those yummy deserts Bridgette’s blog.

  4. Oh that Teddy Rose. What a cutie!

The black and white accessories for your niece’s birthday are wonderful. How sophisticated! And how nice of you Auntie Thimbleanna to make them for her!

  7. What fun baskets! I remember having three teenage boys plus a ten year old all at once… those were the days! I always likened it to having three six foot two year olds. Loud and messy!

  8. I love those Michael Miller dots and have accumulated a big stash of them *vbg*. The baskets are gorgeous. I hope your niece had a wonderful 13th birthday. Master twelve turns 13 tomorrow too! toni xxx

  9. Wow, what birthday gifts you made for her. I love the black-and-white theme and the projects you created. It all looks stunning and the “Boys” label made me smile.

  10. Hmmmm… Cherubs for teenagers??? I didn’t think they existed. But seriously, what wonderful giftie for her 13th birthday. Black and white with a splash of color is my fave.

  11. Ah yes, 3 teenagers in the house. I have the same. I think they are probably cherubs for you – for your sister, not so much. At least that’s the way it works in my house. Everyone else gets to see their good side. (Actually, my kids are really good.)

The baskets are darling. I’m sure they will get a lot of use.

  12. Anna, love the baskets! They are great, did you use a pattern or make up one to fit? I want to do some baskets for the baby room in pink & green maybe. Let me know.

  13. 3 teenagers sounds pretty scary!

I loooove your baskets! That’s just so completely cool. Is there a pattern?????

    HUNKA BURNIN LOVE to ya!

  14. Those baskets are sweet! What a great aunt you are. Changing her bedroom is such a creative gift and must have been lots of fun for everyone.

Teddy Rose is a cutie. He looks so cozy all curled up on that cushion.

  15. Oh, those baskets are too cute. They have me thinking about how I can copycat! As for three teenagers…I just smiled. I’m 15 months away from having FIVE! When I used to think about this, it seemed a gazillon years down the road. Now it’s knockin’ on the door, breathin’ down my neck…So far, though, I like teenagers. They’re pretty funny.

  16. I love those baskets Anna …. they look simply fabulous!!!
How cute is Teddy Rose??!! How adorable :o).
    Hugs,
    Joy :o)

  18. Well Auntie Thimbleanna came through again – with another top notch gift. Love that black and white fabric – and what a great idea for keeping things organized – does it work, lol.

Teddy Rose is growing up so quickly and sure looks pretty comfy in that new chair. Thanks for another post of inspiration sweetie.

  19. Super baskets! I bet your niece loved them. How nice to have such a talented auntie.
That pup looks perfectly comfortable in the birthday chair. Your niece may never get it back. ;)

  20. How CUTE!!! I’ve always been a big fan of black and white fabrics. I could use this idea at my quilt shop to organize a bit around my desk! Awesome…thanks for sharing. Wishing you a very Happy and healthy New Year!

  21. You make the best gifts Anna,
What a lovely set of baskets. I bet your niece loved them.
Love the doggie in the basket- sure can tell that the dog thinks that chair is meant for him/her.

Hope you are staying warm and not suffering from too much cold or snow.

    Happy quilting and cooking.
    Regards,
    Anna

  22. Oh I hate it when I leave my purse like that! The fabric baskets are lovely. And that shrimp sounds amazing! I’m trying to think of a healthy way to use up some of the frozen crab legs left from Christmas in my freezer. hmmm maybe I’ll google that. For some reason sweet and sour shrimp sounds better than sweet and sour crab!

  23. That is a most excellent gift for a teen….THREE teenagers in one house…good grief!! Hope you are keeping warm. The doggies is super cute.

  24. Love the B&W baskets. When I was a teen (a long time ago!) I redid my bedroom in B&W with red touches. I loved it. You do such nice things for your family.
