Trip Trippy Trip

Man, oh Man.  It’s just been impossible to have a regular blogging schedule this past several weeks.  Too much busy work.  I started working on those towels I showed in the last post, but I can’t even manage to finish that little project.  I did, however, make some quick covers for those goofy travel pillows that you see in airports.  My Cool Britannia fabric was burning a hole in my stash.

Travel Pillows

I put a little loop on the top so we can hook them to our suitcases while running through airports.

And there’s a little sleep mask to go along with the set.  That’s for SweetiePie — she loves a good sleep mask.  (The Princess is in Red and the Queen is in Blue!)

Travel Pillows

Covered travel pillows mean vacation time is almost here.  WooHoo! Months ago, we discovered that TheFirstChild would be really busy with rotations this summer, so I thought it would be fun to have a diversion for SweetiePie so she wouldn’t be too lonely.  A Girl Getaway!!!   The ManoftheHouse isn’t going this time — he’ll keep the resident catlets company while we’re gone.  Anyhoo…I’m checking out now — there’s still so much to do around here before we go.  Be good while we’re gone — I’m sure you can guess where we’re going with very little trouble!  ;-D

XOXO,
Anna

(P.S. At some point I’m going to close all comments while I’m gone — the spam levels the last few weeks have been ridiculous!)

(Also, I forgot to add — are you guys on Instagram?  If we can find occasional internet access I might post a picture or two @Thimbleanna.)

The Weekend

Well…did you all have a good weekend?  We had a wonderful weekend — we headed south for three days to attend TheSecondChild’s MBA graduation.  As he says, now he’s a Master.  So, I should probably change his name to MasterSecondChild LOL.  It was a fairly small graduation ceremony (compared to his undergrad event)– mostly advanced degrees, since it’s out-of-cycle for undergrad degrees.

Graduation

Thursday night was the “Hooding Ceremony”.  Each school held it’s own ceremony for the grads.  The hoods are all different colors too, depending on the area of study.  In MasterSecondChild’s case, the tan is for the business school and the red and blue are the university colors.  It was funny to see everyone after the hooding ceremony, ’cause no one knew how to arrange the colors.

Graduation

They were all fixed by graduation though and everyone was properly folded.

Graduation

So, it was a great weekend with lots of good food and fun.   We had fun fixing a few things that had to be fixed around his apartment and just being parents in general.   It’s always exciting to see your child’s hard work pay off too, and we’re very proud of our littlest Thimble.  Er, MasterThimble.  All good things come to an end though, and after I accidentally locked the young Master out of his apartment — oops! — I think he was probably ready to see us on our way LOL.

Chipmunk

And this is what we saw upon our return … the thief has been discovered.  Caught in the Act!  He’s a brazen little Chippy — sat and ate that whole tomato right in front of me.  Luckily, we’re having a bumper crop of tomatoes, so there are plenty to go around!

Chipmunk

Ooooh, before I go, I’ve been forgetting to mention the Aurifil block of the month!  Run on over to the Aurifil page and see the fabulous August block — embroidered by the famous Bari J.!  And don’t forget to check out the flickr group — there are lots of beautiful blocks being shared!

Ok, Peeps, have a great week!

XOXO,
Anna

Tidbits for Tuesday

Wow. Here it is August 7th already and I haven’t even posted once in August. Pitiful! There’s lots going on around here, but nothing exciting. I’m super happy to finally see August arrive. Summer is my least favorite season (not a heat fan) but I think August is my favorite month of Summer. There’s just a hint that summer will soon be over. ;-D

So, here are a few tidbits for your August:
We’ve finally had some fairly regular rain showers in the last few weeks. I don’t think we’re officially out of a drought, but there has been enough water to green things back up around here. That makes for very happy flowers. And me!

Daisies

My little garden plot is paying off and I’m loving it. Every night I can go outside and grab a handful of tomatoes for a salad. And the absolute best is driving by on the lawnmower and popping a tomato or two into my mouth. Yuuuuum Yum! Here’s the tomato haul from last night.

Tomatoes

We’re not growing any corn, but one of my very favorite things about August is the corn from the local farm stand. Last week I tried the microwave method of cooking corn in the husks. Oh. My. Gosh. I couldn’t believe it actually works and it’s fantastic. I think I thought it would bomb like the microwave cakes in a mug. The corn was yummy and tender and best of all — no corn silks! If you haven’t heard of this method, you can watch a video here:

While we’re watching videos, I saw this VERY funny video on Pinterest. You don’t need to speak German to get the gist — “So Papa, how do you like the iPad we got you?”:

Another reason I’m excited about August is that it’s vacation month for me. I’ve been busily planning a trip. And that means I haven’t wanted to start any big projects before I go. I am planning a little project though — it involves these towels. ;-D

Towels

And one last video…in honor of the olympics!  A special gymnastics demonstration by Paulette Huntinova.

Have a good week!
XOXO,
Anna
